I grew up with a house that has a vent built into the microwave that never worked that great so my experience with range hoods was limited. We looked around at many different brands and models and it was very difficult to find something that fit our home. When doing a full custom remodel the last thing we wanted to do was to settle for a mass produced item. > > My wife found the CopperSmtih website one evening and saw all the options available. We spent the night, and the next few days, configuring different hoods. The amount of options is unbelievable! There were so many finishes that I had no idea were available. I think they developed their own custom finishes that are not available anyplace else. Many different materials, finishes, and textures are available. It is so easy to configure what you want and you see the product in real time as you make the different configuration choices. With all the options you can get pretty much any color and texture your heart desires. We ended up going with a hood that matched the color of our fireplace mantle to pull the kitchen and living area together. We went with a smooth Bronze Copper body with Matte Brass straps. We placed it on a wall that has white tile behind it and it just pops off the wall! A big statement piece in the kitchen that everyone complements when they see it. > > Once we decided on our design and placed the order we moved on to the design process. Shortly after we ordered the hood, were provided a CAD drawing with all the measurements of all the dimensions. I gave the CAD to the builders and they were able to use that when completing the kitchen. I had a few questions for the designer and they were answered promptly and accurately that the builders had no issues when installing the hood. So far the hardest (but funnest) part was choosing a design with all the options available. > > Everyday the hood is used mostly when cooking but the lighting is great as well. We turn on the LED lights and turn off the main kitchen lights. The hood lights provide plenty of lighting while cooking and also provide light for the kitchen so we don't need to use the overhead lights all the time. it provides very nice subtle lighting that is really nice. > > The ventilation is amazing! It clears all the smoke and steam that comes from cooking and now the smell of what is being made is contained to a very small area. Gone are the days of the whole house smelling like tacos. There are 3 different blower levels but I rarely need to go any higher than the first level. I was led to believe that their products are made in America which would justify the cost. They are in fact shipped from over seas. I was reassured over and over that my hood would arrive by a certain date, which it did not. When I asked for a delivery date so i could schedule and coordinate contractors, and appliance delivery copper smith just kept giving me canned responses. I explained to them we needed to lock in our appliance delivery so we can have a functional kitchen before the birth of our first child, they where still not helpful. Their customer service team has a script they stick to to further deceive buyers into thinking they make their product in the US or Europe. The truth is they have no control over when you will get your order because it is packed on a shipping container coming from overseas. > > At one point their CEO Ryan called me to reassure me I would be happy with the product when it arrives, he was very patronizing and when I asked where the products where made and his business model he quickly changed the subject. > > When the hood finally arrived the blower was dented and the baffles were gouged and scratched (which to their credit they sent new replacement baffles promptly) The blower itself is very cheaply made, the buttons and baffles rattle when the blower is on. It in no way justifies the cost. The hood looks nice from 10 feet away, when you get close you see the textures are machine made and repeat themselves (kind of like a bad faux distressed finish), when I asked about the finish looking different from the samples I received and website I was told they are "unique finishes" That is not true. I have been waiting over 2 weeks for copper smith to return a call and email to discuss the quality and disappointment in a product that costs a significant amount of money. I would give this company 0 out of 5 stars if I could.
