We had a number of small landscaping projects which added up to a large project. (at least for us) We actually had chosen another firm to do our project but after having some challenges in getting a plan which reflected our taste as well as a high quote we decided to shop around. Brian was very insightful as to our needs and kept in mind our taste and had great suggestions in terms of plantings, safety for our toddler, and some modifications to our design. Our experience with Bearmark could not have been better. Brian Beresford listened to our interests and priorities, and through an iterative process he developed a design that provided exactly what we were looking for. The construction phase was equally satisfying. It entailed: excavating and leveling much of the back yard; removing an old fence, paving stones, pressure treated timber retaining walls, steps and plants. A poured concrete retaining wall and concrete steps were installed, low basalt retaining walls were put in place, a new patio was laid out, a new fence was constructed and new landscaping was provided. All of this work was done very professionally. Communication was excellent throughout. Brian's crews were exemplary. To a person they were hard workers, reliable, polite and intent on providing what we were looking for. The work site was cleaned up very well at the end of each day. After not hearing from them for weeks, I contacted them only to be (rather abruptly) told design work was on the back burner because active projects took priority. I would have appreciated being told this up front and I would have hired a different landscape designer. After resuming our project early this year, I again contacted them to specifically ask if they had availability for spring, and this time I didn't even receive the courtesy of an e-mail response, I was completely ignored. This lack of professionalism when dealing with potential clients left a very bad impression. Generally speaking I found their process to be excellent. The principal at Bearmark, Brian Beresford, consulted with my wife and I, which was followed by plan review (Brian's drawings are excellent!), and implementation followed shortly after. He is a good communicator, which is really important to me, as I have had many contractors disappear at critical times or not deliver on what was discussed. Bearmark is not the cheapest (you can always find somebody to do things more cheaply), but they were competitive on price, and in terms of value for dollar I would rate them extremely well.
