> I highly recommend blue heron.

**★★★★★ — Carol Schaper, Nov. 2019**

> Scott did an amazing remake of our landscaping and we couldn't be more pleased.
> Everything including stone walls, sidewalks, patio, plantings, lighting , correction of drainage problems and even an area for our dog was executed with the eye of an artist and is of amazing quality.
> Scott is professional, knowledgeable, met all deadlines and we now enjoy our property.

**★★★★★ — John Lockwood, Nov. 2019**

> We've used Scott and Blue Heron Landscape Design for many projects over the years, including a complete redesign of all our landscaping, shrubs and flowers, as well as a few smaller projects and plantings here and there. Scott is a terrific designer and has an in-depth knowledge of the plants, shrubs and trees native to our area. He sweats the details and stands behind his work. Highly recommended.

> Scott, Blue Heron's owner, is a great listener and designs a landscape for his client's use and enjoyment. He sticks to the agreed-upon budget, is creative and knowledgeable. Our once-scruffy wooded acre is now enhanced with walkways, a stone path, and a range of bloom and color. I requested hydrangeas; now we have 4 varieties. Sitting on the deck in summer is a little bit of Heaven. Our relationship is ongoing; Blue Heron periodically adds to the plantings, and does our spring & fall clean-ups each year.

> I have worked with Scott at Blue Heron Landscape Design twice and both times he's done excellent work. He has a great eye for design and working with the existing landscape. He's timely and has a great team who are thorough in their clean-up. I would use him again in heartbeat. He has created new garden beds and worked to fix my poor gardening decisions in existing beds.

> Scott from Blue Heron Landscaping was a pleasure to work with. He took our vision and created a beautiful oasis for us. We are very happy with all the hardscape and landscape design he created in our backyard.. He has a great eye for detail. He incorporated a pergola, fireplace and BBQ peninsula in the design. We are originally from California so we wanted a California feel and he delivered on that. He is also very knowledgeable about many varieties of trees and plants that thrive in our CT. climate. I would recommend Scott for any outdoor design project that you may have.

**★★★★★ — User, March 2015**

> Scott and Blue Heron Landscape Design are wonderful. Created a beautiful bird/butterfly garden and walkway that totally transformed our back deck area. They are courteous, professional, and go above and beyond. Would most definitely use them again and again when I need landscaping help!

## Community Q&A

**Q: what type of boxwood** *(in Photo Questions)*

I love this project what plants did you use?
Thank you

A: Hi Kelli,

Thank you for the kind words! There are two Boxwoods; the smaller is Green Velvet (Buxus 'Green Velvet') and the upright conical shaped are Green Mountain (Buxus 'Green Mountain'). They are both hybrid crosses, slow growing, and hold their color well throughout the year. We plant them in both sun and shade gardens with great results. Both are favorites of ours. Hope that helps!

Regards,

Scott

**Q: Question on a plant** *(in Photo Questions)*

What is the plant next to the blue Hosta on the right hand side of the photo? I have seen this shrub before, but I don't know what it is. Thank you!

A: Hi Allison, thanks for the question. That shrub is Bluebird Hydrangea (Hydrangea serrata 'Bluebird"). Hardy to zone 5, a long bloomer, and will tolerate some shade. It's a wonderful plant, we have been very pleased with it in our designs.
All the best!

**Q: Mahogany Deck?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Great looking deck Scott. Is it mahogany?

A: Thank you Thos. Baker, I appreciate the kind words! Yes the decking is mahogany, the the risers and railings are cedar.

**Q: Deck help** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Take a look at the white lattice bordering the deck. The previous owners put this in to alleviate small animals from getting under the deck, but I'm not a fan of the look. Miss anyone aware of an alternative that would fit more with the deck color?

A: Hi Kim,
I'm not a fan either. One option is to re-position the lattice farther under the deck. Another option is to use short pieces of the decking nailed vertically in the same manner. You'll have to install nailers to do this, but both options will give the impression that the deck is supported by, and cantilevers over this "screening". It will look less intrusive.
Hope that helps!
Scott
