Becky Alexis started HIVE Architecture to provide quality design to a larger demographic of people. Using principles of timeless aesthetics, Becky's designs blend the use of natural materials, traditional detailing and a sensitive approach to the environment.

As a fully licensed and insured architect, with previous licenses in construction and real estate, she understands several related services to help her clients create value while improving their home.

Her passion for helping folks to design ADU (accessory dwelling units) has made her a expert in understanding the costs and codes required for creating these fabulous small spaces, and she will always make herself available to share her knowledge.

Background:
Becky knew that she wanted to contribute aesthetically to the built environment since she was fourteen years old. In 1989 she graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture while working for Michael Barber Architecture in Denver. Then she took eighteen months to work, study and travel abroad through New Zealand, Australia, Italy, France, Spain and Turkey. In 1998 she graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle with a Masters of Architecture. While in graduate school, she studied in England, France, Morocco, Sweden, Norway and Finland. She then returned to her home town of Denver to help home owners to improve the space around them. During eight wonderful years working with D. H. Ruggles and Associates as the Director of Design, she completed over 35 projects. In July of 2007 Becky started HIVE Architecture. She works out of her home, to manage her one person Firm, and since then she has completed over 100 more projects.

Her goal is creating space that is sensitive to the environment and construction costs that are respectful to the pocket book. She believes that good design does not constitute higher building costs.

Becky enjoys helping everyone achieve their dreams, no matter the budget!

> Becky's designs are amazing. I have a 1908 bungalow house in Whittier and was looking to make the bungalow a master suite which required adding another bathroom, moving walls for more space, installing skylights and adding closets. The existing stairway to the bungalow was dangerous to say the least. Now when I walk down the new staircase I just cannot believe how nice and safe they are. Such an improvement. The bathroom is more than I could have hoped for as far as size and functionality - it's beautiful Becky did a great job on using the space to the fullest. I would highly recommend Becky for your projects.

**Comment from Hive Architecture By Becky Alexis:**

> Thank you so much Jeanne. Everyone on the team really enjoyed working with you too! I better swing by and get pictures!

**★★★★★ — Tamara Hoehn, March 2017**

> After reviewing several architectural professionals, we decided to go with Hive both because of Becky's beautiful work and excellent recommendations in our neighborhood and her honest and open attitude. We were not disappointed! Becky and her team worked to remodel the exterior of our 110-year-old home on time and within our budget, taking care of every issue from permits and paperwork to the tiniest aesthetic detail. (In fact her detailed knowledge of Denver code was invaluable with dealing with the exceptions that are needed when remodeling an older home). The final result exceeded our expectations; people tell us that they literally don't recognize our "new" home when they see it for the first time! Can't say enough about this positive remodeling experience. We would highly recommend Becky to anyone considering a remodel or new construction.

**Comment from Hive Architecture By Becky Alexis:**

> It is always nice to work with wonderful clients with a great vision!

**★★★★★ — womanzo, Feb. 2015**

> Becky was a joy to work with from day one! Her positive demeanor was a great balance to our apprehensive one--being first-time home remodelers. She respected our design ideas while providing expert guidance to be sure our final product was what we envisioned. We did a lot of the footwork to save money, but Becky caught a huge error that could have cost us thousands. We have our dream kitchen in large part to Becky!

> We could not have found a better person to guide our recent house renovation! Ms. Alexis listened to our ideas and then provided us clear alternatives with regards to materials to complete our project. As an example we had carpet stains: however , rather than replacing the entire piece she suggested using matching stone as a border in one room and wood flooring in another. Not only did this save money it became a decorative element that accentuated the existing treatment. Then she located the materials and workmen for installation.
> Ms. Alexis is highly professional, honest and friendly. I can recommend her without qualification.

> If you are looking for a trusted professional for architectural needs or General Contractor needs then look no further. Becky is it!! We hired Becky from Hive Architecture to design a covered patio addition on our home. It was a covered patio that was tied into the frame of the house and had an attached pergola and custom brick work. She was super easy to work with and the finished product was SPECTACULAR. She listened to what our ideas were for the project and designed it even better than I could have hoped for. She was even able to find the exact matching bricks that were already on our home, so that it blended in fabulously. And I know it was not easy to find those bricks because they were a worn re-use style of brick that are not common. Not to mention, she was also the general contractor on the project and she made sure that timelines were being met and that quality work was being performed. I would highly recommend Becky for ANY project!!

> Becky has helped me with numerous projects, including a multi-level deck and a garage conversion. Her passion for her work, warm personality, and desire to please her clients are second to none.

**★★★★★ — yankeegg, Jan. 2014**

> From start to finish this was an amazing experience. Becky listened to all of our input and took all of our wants and needs into consideration. The project came in under budget and ahead of schedule and the crew doing the work were fabulous. We will be using them again on next major project!
> Our house was built in 1910 and they did a great job of incorporating the character and charm into the project!
> Couldn't be happier!

## Community Q&A

**Q: what color are the cabinets** *(in Photo Questions)*

what color are the cabinets painted

A: Also, it was William Ohs that supplied these beautiful cabinets.

**Q: Concrete Shower Pan vs Cultured Marble Shower Pan Plus Waterproofing** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We have ripped out a corner shower built in a 1968 pier and beam home. This shower had a leak and was replaced 10 years ago by the previous owner. The repair was subpar and the subfloor is being replaced for a second time. The shower pan was concrete and saturated with water.

Does a cultured marble shower pan provide a more waterproof solution than a concrete shower pan with tile?

Additionally, why isn't it recommended to install a waterproof membrane along the entire wall of the shower instead of just a few inches above the pan? Our shower leaked because of cracked tiles above the waterproof membrane. I want to make sure this shower doesn't leak a 3rd time.

Thank you!

A: Schluter shower systems are 100% my preferred water-proofing / vapor-proof product for floors, shower pans and tile walls. So easy to install, and never ever mold growing anywhere! Check it out. Architect & builder.
