Alden Miller founded Alden Miller Interiors in 2011 on the principle of Design for Living. The firm relies on the core philosophy that a home is not a showcase. It is a space where dishes are washed, faces are shaved, and pillow forts are created. Alden believes that every home is filled with its own rituals, and that the rooms we inhabit should perfectly fit the function of our daily lives.

The team at Alden Miller Interiors sets itself apart by focusing on the practical Science of Design. All projects start with an understanding of the mission and essence of the space that is being created. Inspiration comes from the distinctive qualities of the individuals who will live there. Working outward from function in a way that logically flows from lifestyle, homes are crafted into highly functional and inviting spaces. Alden places emphasis on natural materials, quality lifestyle and original details. Along with planning and critical evaluation, her team collaborates with clients, artisans and craftspeople to create beautiful homes.

Growing up in Redondo Beach, Alden has found that her home is on the coast. She is intrigued by her surroundings, by problem solving and by the organic forms found in nature. Prior to attending design school, Alden studied biology and philosophy at Colby College in Maine. She cultivated an interest in the arts of ceramics and printmaking, and settled in San Francisco after graduation to pursue her calling in design. From 2001 to 2010, Alden worked for a talented and eclectic group of designers, honing her skills in the critical details of interior architecture and design theory. Her personal interior design philosophy combines analytical problem solving and creative energy in equal measure. She and her husband reside in Pacifica with their two sons.

> Every time I visited a bathroom design store or internet site to make decisions about remodeling my two bathrooms, I was overwhelmed with all the choices. Four years had passed since my plan to initiate the remodels and nothing had happened when an acquaintance who was having a major remodel designed by AldenMiller, gave me her name and number. I called her for an appointment in my home. This lovely, down to earth woman visited us and listened to what we desired. She gave us an estimate for her services and said she would email a contract which we could sign if we chose to use her. We did so and she returned for measurements and more specifics on what we like. She returned a third time with choices (usually limited to three) for flooring and wall tiles, accent tiles, lighting, plumbing fixtures, hardware, paint colors and vanity. Her design suggestions, such as moving the shower valve to an adjacent wall to allow opening without having to enter the shower and using natural stone tiles, resulted in bathrooms both functional and beautiful. Finally, she provided us with a Design book to guide us through the remodel. That book was my guide for purchasing the materials our contractor needed to complete the job. I provided Alden’s designs to the contractors for bidding purposes which allowed them to bid on a clear and equal basis. The contractor we chose loved the design drawings and use them meticulously to complete the tile work and setting of fixtures. We LOVE our new bathrooms and feel that we are at a deluxe spa every time we shower.

**Comment from Alden Miller Interiors:**

> Thank you for the kind words! It was our pleasure working with you. We are thrilled that our bathroom design package worked so well for your needs and that you love your bathrooms most of all!

> Working with Alden and her team was such a pleasure. I had never worked with a designer before and she worked with me (and my budget!) to turn our new house into our home. Her ideas were always something i would have never considered, and she really made the process easy and fun. So happy with our home, and I could not have made it as unique, comfortable, and livable without Alden andher team!

**Comment from Alden Miller Interiors:**

> Thanks for the great review Jessica! It was so fun to work with your family.

**★★★★★ — Ralph Lewis Construction, Dec. 2017**

> On a recent project, I had the pleasure of working with Alden Miller. As a general contractor, I have worked with many designers, and her expertise, thoroughness, and amazing communication skills really make her stand out. I felt that her knowledge and skill set, as well as her clear vision for the space, helped tremendously with the project. I was so impressed that I recommended her to my clients regarding my next remodel project, and I look forward to working with her again. I highly recommend her.

**Comment from Alden Miller Interiors:**

> Thanks for the great review! We loved working with you and are looking forward to doing more together in the future.

**★★★★★ — Zach Y, Dec. 2017**

> We first got the information of Alden on Houzz for a full-house remodeling job. Overall, we are quite happy to have found Alden to work on the project. Both of designers from AMI that helped on the job were nice and paid attention to details. Besides working on the design, they helped with the general project management on the work as well. I cannot imagine finishing the work without the help from them. This was the first time we worked with a designer. The experience was pleasant thanks to AMI. For quality work for remodeling of all kinds, project management, we would recommend AMI.

**Comment from Alden Miller Interiors:**

> Thanks for the great review! It was wonderful to work with you and we are excited for you to start enjoying your newly remodeled, beautiful home!

**★★★★★ — Lucy Wright, Nov. 2017**

> Good communication and efficiency were the hallmarks of our experience working with Alden. She worked closely with the clients and their ideas, coordinating the many decisions for a finished product that clearly reflects their family and unique property. In working with us as contractor, she seemed always to be a step ahead, knowing what the client wanted, ready with samples or solutions to keep the project in budget and on time.

**★★★★★ — Margo Hasselman Greenough, Sept. 2017**

> Alden really knows her stuff. She has great vision and is highly organized. We remodeled a one-floor cottage into a two-story house, including redoing the kitchen. We hired Alden to design the kitchen, which was in a fixed space. She thoroughly assessed our needs and wants for the space, found ways to solve every setback, and came up with improvements for the whole main floor that have significantly enhanced our use of the space. She connected us with excellent vendors and helped us through materials selections, including steering us right when, in our haste, we were heading toward ill-considered choices like choosing one material without checking how it would work with others we had already set.
>
> Everything Alden and her team had a hand in in our house is better than everything she didn't have a hand in. If we did this over, the best change we could make would be to have her handle more of it.

**★★★★★ — Philip Hall, April 2017**

> In short, Alden and her team are amazing. I would definitely recommend them to anyone in my family or any friends looking for a talented and thoughtful team of designers who can handle your project from A-Z.
>
> They came up with ideas we’d never imagined and the design elements we liked the most are going to make for the perfect home, while still having a general appeal that sets us up for the future, if and when we were to sell.
>
> For a little more color on our experience with Alden Miller and her team, keep reading.
>
> My husband and I spoke to several designers when we started this journey to renovate our San Francisco condo because we can’t afford to sell it and buy something else with the market being so hot right now. We’re doing an entire kitchen remodel, 2 bathrooms, a fireplace, new floors and paint throughout, and building out a laundry room and mudroom.
>
> Our goal was to do this for as little as possible, while still delivering on the high quality standard of living and aesthetic we’ve become accustomed to. Originally we thought we’d hire a designer so they could be a mediator to our differing opinions about finishes, colors, materials, etc.
>
> What we learned after meeting Alden, is that a designer is sooooo much more than that. Sure they play therapist from time to time and listen to you hem and haw about your life’s choices etc. But Alden takes it much further. Within 20 mins of her being in our home, we were convinced she had the experience and design chops we needed in our court. She was asking us questions about utility, form, and function more so than other designers who just said “yes, that sounds great” to the unfiltered laundry list of ideas we’d been sitting on for years.
>
> She was super honest about the cost of our lofty ideas, the return on those investments, and the schedule for completing them. Rather than say “I think we can make that work” she was transparent and gave us ranges to consider, knowing very well that some concessions would need to be made in order to keep the priorities design elements while staying within budget. She did this knowing very well that the first person we’d potentially cut from the budget is the designer, because the material and labor costs are NOT expendable. But her honesty was refreshing and it made her feel like a trusted old friend, and we realized that spending money on good designs were going to make the rest of the project that much easier once we’re ready to proceed. This has definitely been proven, and confirmed by the many contractors we’ve been talking to. All of them say the more fine-tuned you are with your designs and elevations, the smoother the construction project will be.
>
> Early on she had us complete a questionnaire that seemed a little daunting at first, but once we completed, it was clear why she had us go through that task. It totally helped us reframe how we’re thinking about this project. Since our plan is to live here after the renovation is complete, Alden was making us think about how the flow from one room impacts the others. How moving a small wall, or just rearranging the placement of the fridge can really smooth out our morning routines and eliminate all those little frictions that come with an environment that hasn’t been molded to your lifestyle and needs. The questionnaire served as a reference for her and her team (like Nate Lee the designer she oversaw and had us working with most) as they played around with different designs they could double check that they meet the needs and goals of their clients.
>
> She has a ton of experience with different vendors, manufacturers, materials, products, etc. Anytime we asked her a question, she would first answer it, and then ask us a few in return, prompting us to think more about what we liked and didn’t. Or the pros and cons of hand painted ceramic tiles vs machine glazed. There’s no question, we were underestimating how big a home remodel can be, the millions of decisions that need to be made, and how important it is to get the design right! Because that’s the foundation everything else builds from. Like I said above once you have a solid design and well-drawn elevations, you can take those plans to a GC and say “build me this!” and that’s what we did.
>
> It’s really easy to work with Alden, Nate and the rest of their team. We spent several weeks having meetings at our home on weeknights because we both work, and had several discussions online to go through various designs for the different spaces. They walked us through the pros and cons of each, and were even able to add some color as to what the cost difference would be if we went one way or another. The entire time we felt like we were their only client (knowing very well they had others….one of which we spoke to as a reference), and we felt very safe and welcome in our communications with them.
>
> The renovations will start very soon and we can't wait to show her and Nate the final product!

**Comment from Alden Miller Interiors:**

> Phillip, you two are the best, have amazing style and it is a delight to be helping transform your home! Many thanks for your review it really hit home with the aspects I find most important to provide to clients. It’s great to hear that an honest response is appreciated and that the development time we worked on for the drawings has helped out having real conversations with contractors. Looking forward to it!

> Alden has been helping my husband and I for a few years and recently helped us tremendously when we remodeled a house to be our family home for years to come. We are a young, growing family and needed to find a way to blend our two distinct styles with the need for everything to be easy and family friendly. Alden helped educate me on different fabrics, furniture construction materials and processes that are important with small children. She also was very respectful of our often times changing budget and working within it. The process was easy, fun, well thought out, very professional and we are thrilled with the end result!
> We continue to use Alden as we slowly work on additional rooms and would recommend her to anyone looking for a professional designer who will truly understand your needs and help you create a livable space that reflects who you are.

**Comment from Alden Miller Interiors:**

> Thanks so much for the great reviews. You both have been wonderful clients to work with. Looking forward to what the future holds!

**★★★★★ — Gleason and Tankard, March 2015**

> We worked with Alden Miller on a large-scale project in Sonoma County in 2013-2014. She is wonderful to work with. Throughout the process, Alden has a clear vision and is able to attain it through her organized, thoughtful method of design. She is extremely professional and holds her clients' interest as her top priority. As a general contractor, we and our clients rely heavily on the punctuality and professionalism of the designers that we work with - Alden definitely has both of those qualities.
>
> One of Alden Miller's greatest strengths is her ability to maintain awareness of the clients' budget and the project deadlines. She is consistently thinking a step ahead, while keeping the bigger picture in mind. We would definitely work with her again if we had the opportunity, and would suggest the same to anyone looking for a talented and thoughtful interior designer.

> Alden's input regarding remodels to my apartment to make it more appealing for sale in the current market was tremendously helpful and informative. She was very knowledgeable with clear ideas on what would and would not work visually and practically, all while being sensitive to my budget and personal taste. I look forward to utilizing her skills in a broader capacity when I have the opportunity.

> My wife and I hired Alden Miller to help design the interiors of a new home we remodeled in Marin County. We found working with Alden to be a complete pleasure and highly recommend her. Alden took the time to really listen and understand our needs, our sense of style and how we wanted to live in the space we had to work with. The ideas she presented were well thought out and within the budget range she encouraged us to set at the beginning of our project. The end result is a home we find beautiful in form and function.
