> Jessica was the best designer/manager for my whole house project that I could have asked for! She was thoughtful, thorough, responsive, organized and creative throughout. Her follow through and attention to detail were impeccable and she brought in a contractor partner and other skilled tradespeople that did outstanding work. Steps like extensive stain testing on fabric samples that we were considering for high traffic areas to suggesting lower priced items and cost tradeoffs to returning/exchanging items shipped if they arrived with any damage to researching and meeting with artists to design works to complete a room were things she did throughout the project - steps that busy people sometimes gloss over when their clients are remote. I had 100% trust in her ability and judgment, enjoyed all of my time with her and have already recommended her to two friends.

> Jessica had great vision and execution. The project stayed on a tight timeline, which we appreciated. Plus, she coordinated excellently with our contractors. We are quite pleased with the outcome. Our home is elegant, comfortable and fitting of our style.

> Working with Jessica was a fantastic experience! This was our first time ever using an interior designer and she was so easy to work with- she is down to earth, creative and organized. She understood our hope and helped us create a space for our family taking into consideration child friendly products and budget. She truly helped us create a space that we are excited about. We had many small projects to update which took a lot of time to coordinate and she kept us on track! Without her we would still be in the dark (literally)! We highly recommend Jessica, she is a pleasure to work with!

> Jessica is a true professional (reliable, conscientious, and able to get things done) and really a joy to work with. She has an incredible ability to take my sometimes poorly defined vision and turn it into real pieces, all while adding a cohesive style to the space. Jessica goes above and beyond the project by suggesting we use existing pieces in other parts of our home, which I love. She's now designed 3 spaces for us - our living room, home gym and my daughter's bedroom, and I can't wait to find more projects in the future!

> We had a wonderful experience with Jessica Bell. Our project involved refreshing and furnishing an entire house, including new bathrooms, flooring, chimney, and painting. Jessica coordinated the entire project, came up with beautiful design ideas that achieved our goals, and was extremely professional and responsible. She was responsive to our requests and had a wonderful eye. She made the whole process easy and pleasant! We highly recommend her!

> Jessica has made such a change all over our house! She started out just helping me move around some things we had in the kids' rooms, then we did a wee bit of patio furniture--and she was fabulous and creative with all of those smaller things. When it was time to put new lights in our living room I knew Jessica would get it done--and she came up with EXACTLY what we wanted with just a few options, handled all the work and made sure it was done right. She's the best.

> Jessica was wonderful to work with. We deeply appreciated her artistic eye, her affability and her organizational powers. She gave great suggestions while being sensitive and responsive to our individual tastes and sensibilities. From start to finish, she was clear, efficient and followed through on everything. We could not be more pleased with her work, her attitude and her talent.

> Working with Jessica Bell Designs was a delight. She was able to capture my vision with ease. I found her incredibly easy to work with and very flexible on the scope of the project. She goes above and beyond for her clients.

> Jess is a true professional, with unequivocal style and GREAT project management. She’s talented at identifying your personal style (in a scarily accurate way!), and at presenting you with options to express and elevate it. Her futuristic thinking skills are impressive in creating your home and flow, and she's adept at gracefully adjusting to shifting requirements and requests (from architect, builder, client, client's spouse!). Jess is a great collaborator; she's wonderful at interfacing with subcontractors (wall paper installers, tile guys, etc.) and stands behind her work to make sure things are done right. It feels really good knowing that she'll go to bat for you, and do so elegantly. She also knows when to inject a little fun into the process, because designing your home should be exciting and enjoyable, not just an endless decision-making process. I worked with her at first on a more straight forward "redecoration" of a formal living room, and subsequently came back to her for a major home renovation and redesign including my kitchen, mudroom, bathroom, family room, pantry, screened porch with a sitting, dining and cooking area. There were SO many moving parts that all gelled so well together in the end, looking collected a curated instead of like we did the whole thing at once. Her dedication is applauded.

> Fantastic experience! My husband and I took on the challenge of designing and building a new home, and we can't thank Jessica enough for all of her guidance. Jessica helped us make decisions on everything from exterior selections such as siding, roofing, front entrance, garage door style, stonework and lighting to interior decisions such as kitchen cabinets, countertops, mouldings, hardware, tile selections, flooring, paint colors and lighting throughout our new home. Whether it was the style of our fireplace mantel, the handmade tiles over our stove, or the minute details of our stained glass transom windows-right down to the actual design, the selection of each color, and working directly with the artisan- Jessica was an amazing professional to partner with. There are not many designers who have the ability to see another person's vision and then use their talents to bring it to another level. It is even more difficult to find a professional that you can be completely honest with about your budget (there's a balance when building a new home) , and who provides you with great options and suggestions. We love our new home and will always be grateful to Jessica who truly made it feel like "home".

**★★★★★ — Corey Siegel, Sept. 2017**

> We hired Jessica to help redesign two rooms in our home. She was absolutely fantastic to work with. After speaking with us, she quickly understood exactly what we were looking for, and started to show us options to focus down on the perfect look. She was flexible but guiding, and always looking to create our vision with her more sophisticated influence. We couldn't be happier to have worked with Jess. She made it fun and gave us exactly what we had hoped for.

**★★★★★ — Courtney Rotchford, June 2017**

> We really enjoyed working with Jessica on updating a bathroom. She listened to what we wanted, suggested several wonderful design options and kept the product recommendations within our budget. Jessica was patient, very responsive and stayed on top of all of the little details throughout the entire process. We love our new bathroom and even had her help with a few other projects. We would highly recommend Jessica!

  - Description: When these homeowners realized they were here to stay in Hanover, they knew they had to renovate their house to be more functional for their active family of 5. The original kitchen was a cramped, outdated galley kitchen where the dining room is now. The new kitchen was moved to the other side of the house, allowing them to spread out. Details of the renovation included a bump out with new windows, moving the access to the front door to a different location creating better flow, and opening up t…

## Community Q&A

**Q: When creating a traditional staircase should I choose one color for the risers and another for the rail? Should dark be on rail and lighter on riser? Should I stay with one color if bauillsters are white?** *(in Photo Questions)*

When creating a traditional staircase should I choose one color for the risers and another for the rail? Should dark be on rail and lighter on riser? Should I stay with one color if bauillsters are white?

A: If your ballusters are going to be white, the most common way is to keep the risers white as well, and then choose the same wood species for the rail and treads. If you want more wood, then put in risers of the same species as well. In your example picture, the newel posts are white as well- I just did a staircase with maple treads, rail and newel posts, natural finish, keeping the ballusters and risers white. Very clean looking. Good luck!

**Q: Hi we recently built a new home and I am happy with most things but my stairs are driving me crazy !! As you can tell from the photo they are oak stairs that were supposed to be stained to match my hardwood floors that are a pecan colour. Well the painter just grabbed a pecan stain and it does not match my floors at all. I really don’t like all of the light oak it seems to fight with the rest of the house. I have been thinking of painting out the handrail a black colour like I have seen in many photos on this site. What worries me is will I still have too much oak left on the stairs and will it fight with the black. Any suggestions as to how I can decrease the amount of oak on this stairwell. Thanks Brenda** *(in Design Dilemma)*

A: I agree- if they are staining to match and it does not, then it falls on them to fix it. It can be a difficult conversation, but most of the time they know they messed up and are waiting to see if you are going to say something. You paid them to do a job and they should do it to your satisfaction. It would be a shame to have built a new house and be disappointed..restain to the correct color.

**Q: I just moved in, and am looking for two arm chairs to pair in the far right of this photo. I don't know what style would be best? Also, should they be placed perpendicular to the couch and then push the coffee table out more? Or, should I create a nook with the two chairs in the far corner of the room? Help would be great!!** *(in Design Dilemma)*
