> A little over a year ago, I made the decision to relocate my business. I didn’t know what to expect, but I was referred to John and his company, COGS Construction—and I am so thankful that I was! From the very beginning, John walked me through every detail and step of the process. He was extremely responsive, answered all of my questions, and truly helped put me at ease.
>
> Our new location just opened last week, and it is absolutely beautiful! Our clients can’t stop raving about the design and layout. Every aspect of the project was completed with care and a clear intention for long-term quality.
>
> I feel so lucky to have met John, and he will be a part of my network for a lifetime. I highly recommend COGS Construction to anyone looking to add lasting value and beauty to their space.

> John and his team did a wonderful job on our renovation. We gutted and remodeled our kitchen and master bath. We loved working with him, Josh and Trey. John was always available when I needed him, was organized and responsive to my updates and last minute changes. His subs were efficient, did great work and always nice and respectful. We had a number of delays on cabinets (not related to John or his team) and they were so patient & understanding with the delays. The project was completed on budget and we couldn't have been happier with the work and finished product.

> I don't know where to start, Cogs Construction was truly wonderful to work with. I wanted my bathroom remodeled; with John and his team my bathroom became more than what I could have imagined. I spent many a pleasant hour talking to John about what I was looking for in a bathroom besides showering, these conversations lead to Cogs Construction creating the serene sanctuary I desired.
>
> I was working from home throughout the renovation, so I had the opportunity to see the work being done and speak with everyone who came to my home to work. With Cogs Construction you do not get a general handyman - you get a General Contractor who sweats EVERY DETAIL so you don't have to. The sub-contractors he works with are all perfectionists, and masters of their craft. As a bonus, they are dog lovers, too - my two rambunctious dogs looked forward to greeting everyone every day!
>
> The communication was terrific, I never had to wonder what was happening or when it was going to happen. Everything happened on time and on budget. The contract is clear, well-written and spells out exactly what is going to happen. There were no surprises with the scope of work.
>
> I will miss the near daily visits for the bathroom renovation ,but have already talked to them about a future project. For any work I need/want done, Cogs Construction will be my first, and only call. They are true collaborators to make your dreams come true.

> We had a fantastic experience with Cogs Construction. We completed a kitchen and bathroom remodel and it was an extremely smooth process. The whole team was responsive, organized and did great work. The subcontractors were well coordinated and everyone that came into our home was very considerate to our family as we lived through a renovation. We are extremely happy with the outcome and the effort Cogs put into our project to get us across the finish line!

> John and his crew completely rebuilt the front porch on our Victorian from the ground up, and we couldn't be happier. The attention to every last detail was beyond compare, and we have not stopped reciecing compliments since it was finished. And, as always, John goes above and beyond to make sure everything is perfect. We have used Cogs Construction for a complete kitchen remodel a couple of years ago, which we love, and plan to use Cogs for all of our home improvement needs in the future. I could not speak more highly of John and his team.

> John and his team are absolute professionals. From start to finish, they were courteous, detail oriented and they delivered an exceptional final product. John had great recommendations on design elements that were cost effective and practical. Throughout the project I always felt that I had a solid understanding of where we stood with the project and what the next steps were. I would use John and his team for my next project and I would strongly recommend Cogs Construction to family and friends.

> John and all of his subs were a pleasure to work with. John was very open about the process and costs from the get-go, and communication was great, especially when issues arose. Everyone was mindful of the pets in the house, and left things cleaner than they found it. We are thrilled with our new bathroom, and will definitely hire Cogs for any future renovations.

**★★★★★ — Andrew Robinson, Oct. 2018**

> John was great - after making time for us on a Saturday to go over the contract, he kept us updated at every step. The result was perfect - a great looking bathroom that will really make our house a much nicer place to live. Through the whole thing, John was friendly and helpful - he even found someone to mow our lawn when we were out of town! Thank you John!

> Aside from enjoying the high quality of the remodeling work it was a real pleasure working with John and his friendly, considerate workers. John is a very good listener and is never rushed. He is eager to fulfill the homeowner's wishes and ready to make design suggestions if requested. We recommend him highly.

> COGS rebuilt half my house, kitchen, half bath, mudroom, master bedroom, master bath and laundry room in fall 2016. The work was top-notch. Each team member was great to work with, all true professionals and craftsmen. The house is a Victorian and everyone marvels at the way the trim matches as you enter the remodeled space.

**★★★★★ — Scott Fulford, Aug. 2017**

> We were extremely pleased with the renovation of three bathrooms completed by Cogs Construction. From the original estimate to the completion of the project, John was truly professional in all senses. The quality of his subcontractors and his ability to solve issues as they arose gave us confidence in all aspects of the work performed. His communication about scheduling and organization of various phases of the constructions was extremely helpful and respectful of our living in a construction zone. His transparency and honesty about costs gave us peace of mind.
>
> The project completed by Cogs Construction is our fourth major renovation project and by far, our experience and the results this time around were the best ever!

**★★★★★ — Glenn Pacheco, Aug. 2017**

> My partner and I are an interior designer and an architect. We contracted John of Cogs Construction to renovate our condominium that we had just purchased for our home. This is our third home renovation; we know the risk and rewards dealing with contractors.
> John and his team were great to work with. The Cogs team all were professional quality craftsman. When we would contact him, if he was unavailable, we would return our calls. He took the time to explain things and made sure we understood the issues before we made decisions. When there was a problem, it was resolved quickly. When we made changes to the project, John would smile and give us a price. In fact when our additions to the project were driving up the cost, John asked to meet with us to review the changes and budget before proceeding. It has been my experience that most contractors do not take the time or interest to provide the homeowners with a reality check.
> John and his team turned our condo into a home we are very proud of. We now consider John a friend. How many people can say that about a contractor that they have spent 6 Months with.

  - Description: After purchasing this 1999 Colonial the homeowners struggled with how to make the space work for their young family. The home had the perfect layout, but the great room was awkward felt detached from the rest of the living space. After hours spent agonizing over how to make the giant room feel homey the decision was made to drop the ceiling height and create one integrated kitchen/family room, which allowed space for a gym at the back end of the 25 foot expanse, and created a 2nd floor loft with…

  - Description: Cogs Construction and Design, Inc. was approached by a customer who had a rotten pressure treated deck that needed to be replaced. The homeowners are very environmentally conscious and wanted to do their part to avoid any toxic runoff into the lake their property abutted. The homeowner researched various materials for their project and decided to rebuild with aluminum decking. The aluminum decking was appealing to the homeowners because it will never rot and it will collect the water runoff that…

## Community Q&A

**Q: Heat and noise on the deck?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Not sure when this article was written but I was wondering if the owners have been happy with their aluminum deck? Have they had problems with the decking becoming too hot in the sun or with being too noisy (expansion/contraction noise or just walking noise)? Looking to possibly use aluminum decking to rebuild our deck that forms the roof of an enclosed (but not insulated or heated) 3-season type room below. Thank you!

A: The homeowner's have been happy with their choice of decking. The homeowners have told me that when it rains, the sound isn't any louder than the skylights in the house. While installing the product, I noticed that the finish is easy to scratch and requires extra care while installing. The homeowners use a plastic shovel to move snow and it is very important to clean leaves and falling debris from the deck because it will clog the areas that collect water. The homeowners have never heard any expansion/contraction noise. Let me know if I can help answer any other questions you may have. John

**Q: Full green tree....** *(in Photo Questions)*

What is the name of it?

A: The homeowner told me that it is a Dogwood.
