They were very open to the ideas we had for our addition, and took that and turned it into a beautiful design.  We have a 4 year old daughter that has Cerebral Palsy, so we came with some unique needs.  They did lots of research and gave us many different ideas on how our addition could make it easier to care for her.  They made the whole process easier because they were also able to help us design our rooms with cabinetry and counter tops that helped get the look we wanted, plus making it very usable. John, Jamie and their whole staff were always very professional, and very personable.  We also have many compliments on our addition, and that speaks volumes.

**Q: Flooring confusion** *(in Home Repair)*

Half of my home is ceramic tile, the other half is stained & sealed teak wood, but this house is old & 2 of the rooms wood flooring will cup & then go flat depending on the weather & 2 rooms lay flat all the time, must be what’s under them, don't know. The tile is old & a few are cracked, popping up because years ago when we had it put down, he didn’t use the backer board down, told us it would be fine, was for awhile, not now. My question is should we completely start over or what? It will depend on cost also, just wondering what the pro's & everyone else would do, thx. So much....

A: Hello,
Your teak wood floor is beautiful.  That is weird that it is warping in some rooms and not others.  Is part of your house built slab on grade (concrete floor)?  There are so many options now.  An engineered wood floor doesn't warp and cup like a solid wood floor does.  So you could go with engineered wood floor or do a tile that looks like wood and carry it throughout your house.

**Q: What to do with this empty dining room wall..............** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I am trying to update my dining room.  One day, hoping to replace furniture, but for now just need something on the large wall to pull things together.  I am considering large scale prints, my own photos large scale or wall decals/wallpaper. Also considering painting walls dark grey.  Comments please. Much appreciated!

A: I think wallpaper in your room would be adorable.  Dining rooms tend to be a bit boring when they don't have to.  You could even pick up a color in your wallpaper and paint your recessed ceiling to highlight that special detail.  As for art on a large wall, look for a 3 piece art piece or a collage would work well.  Good luck.

**Q: Mantel or no mantel for resurfaced fireplace** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are resurfacing our gas fireplace with ledger stone, Emser sand/quartzite, and topping the hearth with a brushed taj mahal quartzite. Old mantel was scalloped wood that matched paneling which is being replaced with vertical grain fir boards in natural finish. Height of mantel is set by existing holes. Do we just Skip it? Or install narrow mantel to mstch the fir or the quartzite? Tv on adjacent wall to left. Bar/kitchen peninsula with Silestone Lusso  to the right. Wood treatments under bar, on TV wall and opposite wall which will have full length floating shelves/cabinets. firebox to be painted black. In Houston, so fireplace not used much. more photos in comments.

A: I love a good wood mantel, but it might be nice in this case to go without a mantel.  I'm afraid a mantel would make your ceiling look even shorter.  I love your wood wall though.  I would love to see your finished product.  Good luck.
