Working with Stuart Colvin and his team was such a pleasure. After wrapping up our project in January 2023 we can still safely say we love our builder! Stuart and his team brought our architectural plans and design vision to life, building our family our forever home. They were easy to communicate with over phone, text and email- quick to respond and listened to our ideas, requests and concerns. Stuart worked diligently with the county to get our permits and for inspections along the way. He maintained his timeline from start to finish (7 months) and helped guide us in decision making along the way. It was a very collaborative project and we were so thankful to find CGC and work with them. The firm had completely gutted and remodeled four bathrooms for me. One of the four bathrooms was remodeled to facilitate my disabled father. I have received many positive remarks concerning the tile installation in all four bathrooms. Two of the four bathrooms required that the old tubs be removed and a tiled shower installed. Also, the firm remodeled my kitchen to include all new countertops, sink, fixtures and appliances. the firm remodeled my familyroom which included the removal of an old wood stove. The firm handled the subcontractors who installed my new roof as well. The bottom line for me was that CGC listened to my needs and design preferences, met the agreed upon schedule, and kept within the agreed upon budgets. In addition, and of utmost importance is that CGC Builders is a very responsive organization. Very pleasant, professional, knowledgeable, and honest organization! The timeline went as planned and my husband and I had a great working relationship with the builder after the settling of our house for small repairs. **★ — Marcie Dicello, April 2019** > \*\*Please note that we have filed a complaint against CGC with the Maryland Home Improvement Commission under the Department of Labor and Licensing. > > We did a second story elevation and complete renovation of our main floor and basement, a very large and expensive project. Unfortunately, almost immediately upon signing a contract, we became concerned with CGC's project management process and tools, the lack of transparency and willingness to collaborate with us. Communication was poor and our requests for regular in-person meetings, and a monthly project timeline were ignored. Punch list work and other complaints were never addressed properly, surprise price gouging was a regular occurrence and most importantly, we had a very serious safety scare. > As a licensed contractor and home inspector, GCG improperly made the terrible decision to vent our existing furnace illegally. Our gas furnace was manufactured to vent vertically out of our chimney and GGC illegally vented it sideways out of our house causing a carbon monoxide back up in our home. We had to call 911 and the fire department shut off the heat with direction to leave it off until we got a new furnace. This resulted in no heat for over a month in the dead of winter. > Unfortunately, not even in this severe safety situation did we see accountability, humility or an effort to make sure we were satisfied. > Almost two years after the project finished, we are still finding short cuts and having to continue to spend money to repair sloppy work. Some examples include: a bowed wall, poorly done carpentry work large amounts of concrete buried in our yard, multiple plumbing issues, improperly done caulking causing water leaks and damaged drywall, HVAC ducts not connected to floor and wall vents, poorly framed doors causing them to constantly close or swing open. We also had our basement back up and flood due to a measuring tape found 22 feet down our main pipe. > > Prospective customer, please do yourself a favor, do your homework and look beyond this builder. > > Picture shows half of what we found buried in our yard and it does not include the tarp that was also buried in the yard. It was 90% completed at 12-14 weeks. There were days when no one showed up to work or did very little. The quality of the job was very good and we're very happy with the final result but we had to be involved constantly to get what we wanted. Tasks had to be redone because they were not completed properly the first time (e.g., brick work, steps for deck, inferior deck boards used). Once the job was 90% completed and we were ready for a walk through, they stopped all communication.
