Issues are generally minor and most often can be solved with a phone call or an email. We came to him from another architect who had prepared a design concept, but Andrew was able to take the design and make it work with real world constraints; such as building code, complex city bylaw regulations, and construction cost. While working with him, I think he regularly proved his knowledge of all three of these. > > He was able to provide an accurate sense of the cost of each design choice on the spot (rather than going back to a contractor for every decision), as well as making simple suggestions that made the construction much more practical and less error-prone. He also proved himself to understand the building code and bylaw very well, as our submission to the city went off without a hitch. After contractors (and the original architect) reviewed the drawings, there were many comments made on the detail and quality of his drawings. Occasionally , everything comes at once. As we are involved with multiple projects at the same time, sometimes several projects come to needing input stage at the same time. We do our best to ensure that clients who have shorter time-frames are interspersed with longer term time-frame projects. All the while, we make sure clients are communicated with. When the city calls or emails, issues are dealt with immediately so as to not loose traction or timing. You never want your city approval file to be buried in the pile. As getting the required approvals is an integral part of our work, it is our extra knowledge how cities work that makes approvals flow easily. If the city has questions, they are usually minor and are most often sorted out within hours.
