Lauderdale, FL. Although he is based in New York, he commutes frequently to south Florida and is very good at keeping in touch by email, so the geographical distance was not a problem. I chose him based on online photos of his work; I was impressed by his skill in handling small spaces and his exquisite sense of color. His taste is slightly more traditional than mine, but I found him to be very flexible and open to my ideas yet able to respectfully "tone down" some of my more extreme ideas that would have been out of keeping with the age and style of the house. We were able to keep to the original budget of about $25,000 per room and he gave me options at different price points for most of the furniture and art. He is especially resourceful at finding and restoring vintage furniture, which made the project take a little longer but resulted in some unique finds, and he was able to recommend local contractors to hang wallpaper, lay tile, etc. Overall I am very pleased with the project; I would describe it as colorful, sophisticated, and easy to live in, and he was a delight to work with - always dependable, responsive, enthusiastic, and full of surprising ideas! In short, I strongly recommend him with no reservations whatsoever! **★★★★★ — Michelle Roberts, April 2015** > I began working with Diego Alejandro Design in January 2015 on redesigning my NYC apartment. I decided to work with Diego because I personally saw the Miami loft he designed and it is extraordinary. I wanted my apartment to have his “look.” I didn’t give him any direction for the redesign except that I wanted a grey/ neutral palette and I wanted the apartment to look more masculine. > > I had never worked with a designer before so I didn’t know what to expect in terms of process or outcome but the results have been phenomenal. Diego started by taking detailed measurements of my apartment so all his designs were to scale (he is a former architect). He put together an “inspiration board” outlining his recommendations for furniture and accessories, with an expense report for each of the pieces (including extras such as delivery, framing, repairs to vintage pieces, etc.). It was exciting to see everything on one page so I could visualize how they would all look together my apartment. The “inspiration board” was more like an action plan because I subsequently purchased almost every single item he selected. > > One of the perks of working with Diego is that he has curated a large inventory of vintage and bespoke pieces. He selected some beautiful vintage candle holders, clock, lamps, and artwork to complete the redesign. He didn’t put any pressure on me to buy but every time I came home to a gorgeous new sculpture or lamp, I couldn’t let him take it away! I ended up keeping almost all the pieces he recommended. > > I’m so happy I decided to work with a professional on this project. The apartment is polished and chic without looking overdone or “decorated”. It has a clean, neutral color scheme with lots of brass accents, sculptural elements, and sophisticated accessories.
