## About

### Houzz Badges

- Star Houzzer

Missy Brown has always had a passion for old houses and historic architecture. She began by sketching the spaces and homes she loved, a hobby shared by her great grandfather, a well known Boston architect. Missy received her Masters in Architecture from CU Denver in 2000 and started a career dedicated to residential design and remodeling historic homes.

Her career began in San Francisco where she designed and managed high end remodels that varied in size from a single bathroom or kitchen to multi-story additions. Whether it was a Victorian home from the 1880’s or a neo-Classical from the 1930’s, her designs were custom fit to the home, both striking and appropriate in every case. Missy’s strength lies in her ability to respect the old while seeing new potential for existing spaces. She believes that new architecture, when applied to historic settings, needs to preserve and enhance the charm and character of the old.

While gaining invaluable knowledge as a lead designer, Missy took on design projects of her own. Better Homes & Gardens featured her first ground-up home in 2004, a charming second home set on an inland lake in New Hampshire (see home page).

Missy and her husband moved to Denver in 2008 where she started her own firm, Missy Brown Design. Since then, Missy has completed two of the more exciting projects of her career. She designed & built a unique custom, treehouse in Evergreen, Colorado---subsequently featured in Colorado Expressions Magazine. A year later Missy completed a full-house renovation & addition to their own 1920’s bungalow in the east Washington Park neighborhood of Denver. Please see the photos on the website.

> We have worked with Missy Brown Design for over 2 years on over a dozen small and large residential projects. She has always demonstrated the utmost care, skill, and design diligence to her clients. I highly recommend hiring Missy if you are looking for a talented and thoughtful designer on your upcoming addition or remodel project. She is, without a doubt, one of the most talented and easy to work with designers I have ever met in the past 2 decades!!!

> We bought my great grandmother's 100-year old house and hired Missy to be our architect. We wanted to keep the fabulous character of the house intact but had to basically renovate the entire house because everything was 100 years old -- all plumbing, electric, etc. were ancient, yet the beautiful wooden floors and bead board were in excellent condition.

> Missy was fabulous! She had an idea from day one on how to keep the charm of the original house AND design it to have all the modern conveniences. She added on an incredible 3-seasons room which allowed us to keep all the original arched glass windows. I don't think we could have done this project without Missy. Her attention to detail and her ability to so clearly show us what this house could become was amazing. I highly recommend her to anyone who is looking for a stellar architect with incredible design skills to boot.

> Missy did an excellent job going over every detail of the design process for the renovation of our family cabin. We winterized the kitchen, upgraded some 100+ year old systems in the cabin, and added walls, doors, windows and infrastructure. Missy was a joy to work with throughout, always helpful, respectful and easy to work with. Her understanding of our needs, our aesthetic and creation of designs that met those needs was superb. She also worked very well with the contractor and carpenters. The whole process under Missy's direction was much more fun and easier than I had anticipated. And the results are stunning!

> Missy Brown was hired by our family to design an insulated, winterized, and updated kitchen in our old 1896 family log cabin on Lake Superior. The cabin has been in our family for 6 generations. The project has taken many months to complete as three months of foundation reconstruction and new log work needed to be completed before the new kitchen could even begin. My sister and I, the primary family members engaged throughout with Missy, thoroughly enjoyed our sessions with Missy including one very cold October huddled around the table in the old uninsulated and drafty kitchen drinking copious amounts of hot tea but not leaving that table until we all felt satisfied with the final architectural plans. And what a glorious and better than hoped for kitchen we now have! Missy had really listened as so many family members initially weighed in with ideas and requests over the many months during phone calls, emails and a few site visits. She graciously offered professional advice as we needed it and wisely knew when to let family members work out their differences. She incorporated family heirlooms and unique items so the kitchen really reflects our family and our heritage. The result is a perfect cabin kitchen.
