His extensive background in construction and architecture was the perfect combination to get our project off to an exciting start! **★★★★★ — joebea, March 2015** > Tim McCarthy excelled in the realization of our Four Season's Room which was attached to our 110 year old Victorian Farmhouse. His 12 sided design captured the homeowners ideas and made them work for our contractor, Lashomb Design-Finish, to build a structure that would attach successfully to a foundation built home and a garage built on a floating concrete slab. The design of the Four Season's room was made to compliment the existing structures. Tim's attention to detail and his astute listening skills allowed the homeowners vision to become a reality. This room featured in-floor radiant heating, a Rumford styled cooking fireplace, and a 12 sided vaulted ceiling extending 22 feet high. Tim availed himself for consultation with Michael Lashomb (contractor) to answer any questions needed to assure a successful project. This structure built in a zone 3-4 climate area was engeneered to heat efficiently and to endure the harsh weather of all seasons we experience. The interior design and finish work was completed by Lashomb Design-Finish, which emulates a late 1700's colonial Inn. He is up on all the cutting edge ideas and materials. Unlike some architects who lean too far into design and not practicality, Tim has balanced form and function. I think I am on a white theme kick for the cabinets. What do you think? A: i think the barn doors would be great...they can stay open all the time except for rare occasion you need to close them. But for cabinet doors you would want to pick a style. **Q: Availability?** *(in Product Questions)* Is the 60" in stock or do you get foxden to custom make when we place the order? A: is this one available? **Q: We need help deciding what to do with this bungalow** *(in Design Dilemma)* We bought a 1961 bungalow with about 1000 sqft , with 2 bedrooms,1 bathroom and single car garage on 1.2 acres. We have had a lot of advice including to break it down and build a new 2000 sqft bungalow . We want to do a renovation of about another 1000 sqft, to add a master bedroom with ensuite, a larger kitchen ,laundry room, if possible a powder room and update the current bathroom . The front of the house also needs to be updated. Our real estate agent said that as long as there is a seamless renovation between old and new, there should not be a huge difference in resale value between a well done renovation and a new house. We have had contractors looking at the house and they all say that the house is very well built. Question 1: The problem for me is the basement which is only 7 ft high. Do we lower it by one foot to match the renovation or do we keep it at the lower level and make the renovation at 8ft. \#2: If we have to leave it at the current height(ie cost ?) , would it be feasible to make the basement a walkout ? We do not know what is required for grading in other to make that happen. Thanks Ruby A: to answer question two..I believe the cost of lowering basement slab would be prohibitive..you could simply build the addition basement at 8 foot and have a step in the floor and footings.. **Q: lovely barn. what is the size of the footprint ?** *(in Photo Questions)* A: thanks..! its 21 feet along the gable side and 40 feet on the long side... **Q: What about the stone raised bed? can you give me some info on that?** *(in Photo Questions)* A: stone raised bed is an example of slipformed stone that we have done. Its stonework done with a form. WE place dry stone inside the form and call the concrete truck. we put a special fabric in-between dirt and stone to absorb the frozen ice expansion when topsoil freezes and expands. Fabric is called ENKAMATT and has a filter on one side to keep it from filing with dirt. The size of this bed is too wide, making it difficult to reach the middle. **Q: Greenhouse?
