## Community Q&A

**Q: what size table for dining “booth” / banquette?!** *(in Furniture)*

We are putting in a new eat-in kitchen at the end of a galley kitchen in front of a window. Bc there is an AC unit below the window, we cannot put built-in seating/banquette in front of the window. So we are putting in built-in benches on the sides, like a booth. We cannot figure out the right size of table to get....we have little kids, and if we move the table in one direction, it will be too far in the other. Any idea how to figure out the right size? Contractor says 54” square, but this seems small to me.

A: We need the dimensions of the space and depth of the proposed benches to give you an exact answer. Can you please provide them? Typically you want the table to overhang the seat 2" which should give you the width of the table. As for the length that will depend on the space between the wall and counter top. You want to make sure you leave enough space between the counter and table edge so that it's comfortable to get seated. Also, do you prefer the table to be floating in the space or up against the wall?

**Q: Dining chairs or a bigger breakfast nook** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hello, limited space in kitchen and need some suggestions on how to make it a functional area.

A: I'd recommend a nice upholstered banquette if you're willing to purchase a table with a pedestal base. Typically you want the tabletop to overhang the seat about 2-3" which isn't possible when the table has legs. We have many beautiful banquette styles that can be customized on our website (citylivingdesign.com).

However, if you are going to ditch the banquette/bench idea I would still recommend a table that has a pedestal or trestle base that won't interfere with using chairs on all ends of the table. As of now the stretchers on the ends won't allow someone to sit comfortably.

**Q: Beautiful!** *(in Photo Questions)*

In order to make this a roomy two seater bench or a tight three seater bench size,  what back and front width would you suggest on this piece? 
The space I am working with can ideally accomodate a banquette with an overall width of 70" to 78" max.  It would seat two adults the majority or the time, but three adults occasionally.  I have seen your entire portfolio and would very much like to work with you on designing a small curved 2-3 person banquette.

Is this considered a two seater bench or a three seater bench? Would you mind telling me the back and front width of this piece, please?

A: Hello!
This particular banquette has an outside width of 76" and interior width of 52-3/8". It was created to fit a template sent in by the customer but can make any curve. This size would seat 2 people comfortably and possible a third.

**Q: Built in banquette or no?** *(in Woodworking)*

A: Banquettes are great dining option! Given your space you can go with either a straight or L-shaped style. Keep in mind that it doesn't necessarily need to be built in, they work best with a pedestal table, and you don't want it to be too long so that it's not difficult to get seated onto.
