> I am pleased to refer this local decorating studio for smaller projects knowing the client will be treated well. Lakeshore staff are attentive, pleasant and value focused. They will work with my clients and attend to their decorative or window treatment needs in a caring and solution focused manner. I frequently send clients there to shop local.
> Great to know Melissa and her staff are ready, willing and able for decorative solutions.

> Melissa Cheney with Lakeshore Decor helped us bring our 1950's home into the current decade. She used fabrics, furniture and accessories to give our home a timeless mid-century modern feel. We are very happy with the results!

> Melissa and her team at Lakeshore Decor are an excellent resource for us as a custom home builder. We entrust her to assist clients in selecting interior finishes, furniture layout and purchasing furnishings for their new home. Melissa also is instrumental in providing custom-made linens, draperies, blinds and furniture. Competing with the large furniture retailers is no problem, given her affordable pricing and amazing design ability. Lakeshore Decor has also provided beautifully appointed staging for our Parade of Homes houses annually. We highly recommend Lakeshore Decor!

> Melissa and Kelsey have been great to work with. I hired them to assist me in picking out furniture, custom drapery and flooring in my new home. I loved the color scheme and furniture/rug choices. I have been involved every step of the way to ensure my personal taste and interest was represented then they worked on the ideas and searching for the furniture, etc. They are respectful of your budget and will even deliver your items and bring new items to trial before you pull the trigger on a large purchase. It has been fun to have such excellent help and insight into picking out the decor for my home.

**★★★★★ — Christina Petit, March 2015**

> Melissa spent a lot of time with me helping transform my tiny space into a warm, open and inviting place to call home. She even went down and met with the builders' contractors to discuss flooring and counter options. Melissa's store is full of beatuiful things and she has a true talent for not only knowing trends but she can take your vision and make it tangible and beautiful.

## Community Q&A

**Q: what do you call the drape hangers on top? Where might I find them?** *(in Photo Questions)*

We live in Idaho.

A: Those were picture hooks. But I don't think they are available from the same source any longer. I found this one to show an example. If I find they are still available, I'll post another comment.

**Q: Help needed on new bathroom design** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are in the beginning stages of a bathroom remodel. I plan on bringing in a bathroom designer, but would love to get your ideas as well. We plan to get rid of the jacuzzi tub and replace with a free-standing tub (can anyone offer pro and cons of doing free-standing versus a drop in). I want to add a bench of some type in the shower, so that would become larger. I would also like to add storage and am thinking cabinet/shelving on far left wall. Houzzers have such great ideas and perspectives and come up with ideas I would have never have thought up on my own. I am posting additional pictures in another comment.

A: Here is the tub surround.

**Q: Where to buy a great quality slipcovered sofa???** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I am searching for sofas for my family room...I am looking for simple roll arm traditional with slipcovers. I have 3 boys 2, 4 and 6 years old. So I need STURDY! I have been looking at PB, Restoration Hardware and Crate and Barrel so far. I have heard mixed reviews about all. It seems that on paper RH has the best construction but they don't showcase their Grand Scale Roll Arm in the store, so I can't sit on it. Any advice or recommendations would be great! Thanks!!!

A: Think outside the barn.... you can get great quality slipcovered furniture from your boutique furniture stores. Brands like BEST SLIPCOVER Company, Lexington, Braxton Culler all make excellent slipcovered furniture that doesn't look sloppy. Much of it is made in USA too.

**Q: What would you put in your moat?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We know no one is likely to actually have a moat, but imagine for a moment if you did...
What would you put in it to keep the strangers at bay?
Tell us! (photos encouraged)

A: boats of course!

**Q: Need back splash help please!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hubby and I took a big plunge and bought a fixer upper vacation house on the coast of North Carolina on the steps of the court house no less! We've knocked out walls, added doors, scraped a the ceilings, added all new floors and painted the whole house. We've demolished the old kitchen, and totally moved it to the other side of the house.... AND, I'm stuck on back splash!
Went with custom built shaker cabinets and I'm going with stainless hardware.... the appliances are yet to be installed but you can see from the pics where they are headed. I'm considering classic white subway tiles with white grout, grey subway tiles with grey grout (but the ones I found are too dark), the glass mosaic ones in the pictures and the while ones in the picture... they have little waves. My walls are Sherwin Williams Agreeable Grey and the counter is called Sequoia and i think its a quarts even though the dealer called it granite. Please let me know what you think. :) Thanks!

A: The plain white subway tiles are a bit stark but the mosaic seem busy. What about a natural marble tile with a soft gray grout. Jeffery Court makes a pretty one, http://www.jeffreycourt.com/tile-product/field-tile-allegro-3x6-18115/

**Q: Need help with our Master Bedroom & Retreat** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We bought a house and are in the process of making it a home. We purchased new furniture/bedding from Pottery Barn for our Master Bedroom and Retreat, but need help with paint color (trying to avoid gray), window treatments, accessories, etc. I listed products to help communicate the colors & fabrics. Attached are a few photos. Help!!
Bedding: Finley Paisley Duvet & Sham (Color: Anthracite)
Bed: Lorraine Tufted Upholstered Tall Bed & Headboard (Texture/Color: Vintage Velvet, Ebony)
Lamps: Murano Glass Table Lamp
Retreat Couch: PB Comfort Roll Arm (Texture/Color: Organic Cotton Canvas, Neutral)

A: Regarding Retreat; I'd use same paint color as bedroom (paper bag/caramel) with white crown. But this room needs pattern, so I'd do decorative drapery (non-functional) with larger repeat fabric, background should be white or off white to tie in with other space but I'd also suggest textured roman shade in a natural fiber for the doors. You could also add an area rug and a either a wicker or woven chair or ottoman. Finally artwork...a group of botanical prints would be perfect. Paint colors I've suggested are Ralph Lauren chocolate Brown vm23 or Ben Moore Spice Gold, as always test!
