> I have experience working with architects and designers for almost 25 years now, and I must say that Pangaea is absolutely unique, both as a designer and a personality. First of all, she is a professional; she knows her job, she has answers to all kinds of questions you throw at her, and she has deep knowledge of every single aspect of both interior design and construction. Creating a custom kitchen is something I've dealt with in the past, and that was one of the biggest pains in the neck I can recall. Second, and I think this is more of a personality thing, she is insanely attentive to detail. I am kind of a perfectionist myself, so I absolutely enjoyed working with Pangaea. Everything is pre-planned, every little detail is thought of, it's pure pleasure. Third and final, I absolutely loved the way she does business. Everything is on time, properly scheduled and delivered; she never tries to rip you off and sell something useless or overcharge you; quite the contrary, I would say
>
> Very happy with the service, going to ask her to design a couple of rooms for me next year. Thanks!

**Comment from Pangaea Interior Design, Portland, OR:**

> Oh, my goodness! Thank you so much! Your project was a pleasure to design and bring to reality. I love seeing my clients enjoying their home. I'm ready when you're ready on those upcoming projects!

**★★★★★ — Kim Jensen, Dec. 2019**

> I loved working with Pangaea; she had great design recommendations, she listened to my needs and suggestions, was always on time to meetings, and had great follow-through. My bathroom remodel would not have been done if not for her help finding a contractor that was within my budget. I’m even happier with the remodel a year after completion as I’ve discovered how practical (as well as beautiful) her design has been.

> Pangaea and staff were a delight to work with. Completely able and willing to work within a budget. Brought multiple final options to the table and I am in love with the final result.
>
> Highly recommend!!

**Comment from Pangaea Interior Design, Portland, OR:**

> Thank you so much, Jasmine! You were a pleasure to work with! I appreciated the clear communication on budget availability, style preferences, willingness to make some bold visual statements, and your ability to make firm decisions quickly. And I am also delighted with how everything turned out! Thank you for the review!

> Pangaea really knows her stuff. She has a great eye and has educated herself to amazing extent on the many things that are available to you. The contractors that she uses are great. I spent more money than I ever thought I would on some dressers, night stands, and built-ins, but, wow, were they worth it. I love them everyday. The AV guys, the general contractor, the window coverings/art installer - you hire Pangaea you get her vision to turn your house into a home and you get this terrific team. I'm keeping all their phone numbers! Very kind, attentive people, who are complete professionals. Pangaea can work with your budget, too. I called several design teams in Portland and told them what I would like to spend, and was told "well, that's not going to be possible." Bull. I did go over budget, but that's because I wanted to, not because it wasn't possible to do it with the amount allotted. Two things I would say that you should expect from the experience if you've never hired a decorator before. a) It will take a long time. It just will. It took 11 months to finish my home. It begins to wear on you, just be prepared. b) You will hemorrhage money. Expect it. Just be prepared to deal with it and if it gets too much, feel free to say 'no'. There were things which were proposed for the master bedroom that I just did think would equate to an equivalent amount of utility and Pangaea said, "okay". In the end, it was a long journey, I'm glad its over, but my family and I really enjoy what we have and it finally feels like 'our' home. Good Luck.

> Pangaea is an extremely talented design professional. She helped us create an incredible kitchen in a challenging space, as well as provided us vision and design for other parts of our new house. Pangaea has outstanding taste and creativity, but is also very talented technically in creating designs that can be built accurately by others. We are very pleased with the work she did for us!

**★★★★★ — Debbie Toney, May 2017**

> Pangaea listened to what we needed and wanted in our new kitchen. It is spectacular and super efficient. An absolute joy to cook in!
> Her professional knowledge and communication provided us with choices we would not have found/considered on our own - especially our backsplash- she found exactly what I had in mind within the budget. The process would have been overwhelming and frankly impossible without her! We would happily use her in the future..

**★★★★★ — Barry Bonder, Dec. 2016**

> Pangaea completely transformed the central entry foyer, stairway & living room area of my home. I LOVE the result – it’s gorgeous, and exactly the look I was hoping for – rich and dramatic without being “over the top”, and modern yet warm and interesting. Pangaea is very very skilled, and equally determined. She worked tirelessly to solve design challenges and ensure that all elements of the space would work together. Pangaea also brought to bear a cadre of suppliers, including a painter, drapery installer, and custom-fabricators of drapery, a sofa, armchairs, chandeliers, a coffee table and console table. The custom work was of the highest quality, and the suppliers I met were exceedingly friendly and meticulous. And Pangaea is very professional – she carefully set expectations and explained her process up front, and followed through without exception. Working with Pangaea was expensive – I ended up spending quite a bit more than I had planned. But the outcome truly exceeded my expectations.

> This is the first time we have worked with a designer. Pangaea listened to us about our desires for a contemporary Asian feel, a dining table that gets out of the way, and age-in-place features. All of those desires were met in a way that has created a great room we love that includes kitchen, dining, and living space. In addition her design included a change to our fireplace which has made it a design focal point in our space. Pangaea made herself available as needed and was timely in her delivery of designs and changes. Overall we are completely satisfied with her design work and would highly recommend her services.

**★★★★★ — conchfritters, Sept. 2014**

> I had never worked with a design professional before, but I know I could not have had a better experience. Pangaea was the utmost professional, yet easy to work with, and made a major redo of our living and dining room fun. She had amazing ideas, and presented a wide variety of options that took into account our tastes and budget. Pangaea quickly solved any issues or concerns that arose along the way.
> We love our new space and hope to work with Pangaea again soon to transform more of our home.

**Comment from Pangaea Interior Design, Portland, OR:**

> i cannot believe I did not know until now that I can add a comment to my reviews. I want to say thank you so much for choosing me to help you with the furnishings for your living and dining room along with the facelift for the fireplace. It was fun to help you turn your vision into reality!

**★★★★★ — pbmclain, Sept. 2014**

> From initial design to final details, I found Pangaea to be creative, professional and just fun to work with. She took the time to really understand my tastes and was able to develop a coherent and beautiful design that I'll enjoy living in for years to come. She was always attentive to my tastes, but not afraid to suggest bolder, more creative options that really made the design something special. I also benefited from the network of high quality craftsmen (painters, electricians, cabinet makers) Pangaea has cultivated over the years. All of them were professional, did outstanding work and were just top notch people all around. I was more than happy to let Pangaea handle all of the project management details, which she did professionally and with attention to detail: ordering items, following up to ensure timely delivery, scheduling contractors, keeping me up-to date on progress, budget etc. Not only did Pangaea make the process fun and interesting, I'm really pleased with the results which were more than I could have hoped for.

**Comment from Pangaea Interior Design, Portland, OR:**

> I just found out that I can add a comment to my reviews or I would have done this months ago. Thank you so much for the wonderful review! I am pleased with the results too. It is such a pleasure to work with a client who is open to ideas and who enjoys incorporating art into the mix in a big way. Thank you for choosing me as your interior designer. I thoroughly enjoyed working with you to create your comfortable, practical and beautiful home.

**★★★★★ — 1darkstar, Sept. 2014**

> Pangaea worked with me for many months in order to make my dream of the perfect hair salon a reality. I wouldn't have known where to begin to find the local artisans, contractors and distributors with whom she already had long-standing relationships. She is a very detail oriented, punctual and courteous professional who gently drives you toward your goal while maintaining realistic expectations in regards to timeline and budget. She has a seemingly endless catalog of products, patterns and colors in her mind that she draws from in an instant and will take your ideas and turn them into the perfect version that you may or may not know existed. Being an aesthetic creator myself, I truly appreciate this ability in others.

**★★★★★ — johngage, Dec. 2013**

> With Pangaea’s expert advice and guidance we successfully transformed our outdated and rather shabby master bedroom, closet, and bath into a beautiful and modern showcase suite. Being new to any sort of serious remodeling effort, we were immediately at ease with Pangaea’s confident style and professional approach to our project. She patiently guided us through each step of her design process and never made us feel there wasn’t time to pause for further deliberation or to ask more questions. Pangaea is very well connected with all types of trade specialists, craftspeople, and suppliers, and always knew where to go for the right solution to any design challenge. Her communication with us and with the contractors was always very clear and fully detailed. Any complications or problems were quickly and effectively dealt with. It was a truly fun and satisfying experience to work with Pangaea and we appreciate the value that partnering with such a skilled professional designer brought to our project.

 - Description: For this client, we remodeled their kitchen to open up the amazing views, installing all new, custom cabinetry in white shaker style with Jacobean stained rift cut oak island and accents. All new Subzero Wolf appliances were a splurge for a couple where the husband is the one who does the cooking. A hidden pantry stores plenty, including the microwave, which gets used a little less often.

 - Description: This client had an extremely small kitchen with a ceiling lower than 8 feet. The plan was to incorporate the square footage from an adjacent exterior patio. The main living area had multiple levels of vaulted ceiling and the client hoped to vault the ceiling above the kitchen. We literally raised the roof and ceiling above the living area to give one clean plane that angles down to the back of the new kitchen. Our client wanted to have a dining table "once in awhile", so we created this rolling…

 - Description: This client was looking for a comfortable and transitional lounge and bar that would provide plenty of space for entertaining. The deck above is waterproof so that furnishings are protected from both rain and sun. Well, that’s unless it is completely raining sideways as it sometimes does here, so we still designed this lounge and bar with outdoor furnishings and area rug so they can take the elements. - Description: Although the original kitchen was pretty and it had good cabinetry, the traditional raised panel doors were out of sync with the very modern style of the home and the client’s taste. The family also wanted the island to serve as their main dining space and needed room for six people who would all be able to see each other and have conversation. They also entertain large crowds and while the man of the house is cooking, he wanted to look out toward the action and have lots of room for guests to g…

 - Description: An avid art collector started with a blank slate in this empty condo in the Encore building in Portland's Pearl District. We designed custom cabinetry to provide much needed storage for the living room and dining area. The built-ins wrap around the corner from the living area into the dining niche where we also built in a banquette with drawer storage below the banquette seats. - Description: Winner of the 2014 Home Builders Association Excellence Awards for Best Bathroom Design, this bathroom in an 80′s modern home was outdated and did not fit the style of the home. Pink striped wall covering which stopped at the 7′ 8″ wall height and a small tub with metal framed shower doors both made the bathroom look small. The family also wanted the kitchen to function better for office and homework needs. We began by absorbing the space of a little used side patio to expand the kitchen by about nine feet in length. ## Community Q&A

**Q: hi what brand is the linear fireplace?** *(in Photo Questions)*

natural gas or electric?

A: The fireplace in this photo is their old one. This is the "before" picture. I do not know what brand the old fireplace was, but I do know it was gas.

**Q: Alvin Cabinet Color?** *(in Photo Questions)*

What is the name of cabinet color?

A: This is a high gloss Cleaf® laminate product. I'm afraid I cannot remember the specific pattern name since it has been a handful of years. It isn't a plain grey -- there is a pattern to it.

**Q: Ann Sacks Tidewater Tile** *(in Photo Questions)*

Hi. Current Ann Sacks designers have not heard of this Tidewater tile. Love the look! Any idea where I might be able to find it?

A: No, I'm afraid not. I haven't tried to specify it again since I did this. However, in a couple minutes of internet search, I find that it was designed by Rodolfo Dordoni. It looks like this is the information on the Italian manufacturer, although they call it something different. But this is definitely the tile. You'll probably need to write to the manufacturer to see if it is currently being distributed anywhere in the USA. https://www.architonic.com/en/product/ceramiche-mutina-toile-tasmania/1363127

**Q: Tub** *(in Photo Questions)*

Did your clients LOVE this tub? I'm debating on purchasing the same exact one, but I haven't seen many reviews online or heard any feedback. It's not available to see in any showroom in WA State. Thank you for your feedback!

A: I wish I knew! This property ended up being set up and furnished for use as a high-end corporate rental. The tub is really big and roomy. The overflow makes it so you can really soak very deep into the water. And the shape of the tub makes it possible to sit without sliding down. I hope you enjoy it!

**Q: What type of floor and finish is in this picture?** *(in Photo Questions)*

We are in the midst of picking out materials for our kitchen remodel and are planning to go with Maple cabinets. But struggling on what type of hardwood floor and finish to go with.

A: The floor is also maple. It was a "rustic" maple that had wide variation in tone running from the light maple all the way to deeper shades. It's been about 4 years since I did this project, so I no longer remember the brand.

**Q: backsplash** *(in Photo Questions)*

Could you post a close up of the backsplash or sample? Where can it be purchased? Would it be appropriate to have it vertical vs. horizontal?

A: I'm sorry, I do not have a close-up of this backsplash. You can always run any tile pretty much any direction you feel looks best in your design. Best of luck!
