## Community Q&A

**Q: What stain did you use** *(in Photo Questions)*

What stain did you use on the posts and rafters?

A: They used a German hardwax designed for exteriors, just a clear finish (no colour in the stain). The brand they used is called OSMO. We use a similar product with a different brand name now, here, called Saicos (the two products are interchangeable, though if you choose to use a colour, the colour swatches may not be exactly the same. There are other hardwax type finishes available as well. It stands up well and is easy to apply, in addition to being eco-friendly and non-toxic. If you would like information on this type of stain, a quick search of "hardwax vs urethane" will bring up plenty of discussions about the specific characteristics and application methods. You can also just give us a call!

**Q: What boot dryer system did you use, and how well is it working?** *(in Photo Questions)*

What boot dryer system did you use, and how well is it working?

A: Hello! I don't have the information on the boot dryer handy here, but I'll see what I can find out for you!

**Q: Help designing a reclaimed either recycled spa reception** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi there,

I'm designing a reclaimed / recycled spa reception/waiting area for an assignment for class.

i would love some help with ideas and websites to look at!
things i need to include:
-furniture
\- materials and treatments for wall, floors and ceilings!

Below is the floor plan, windows and doors are still to be added.

Thank you !

A: There are lots of different types of reclaimed materials you could use, depending on what you mean by "reclaimed". We have a number of ideas from other customers who have used reclaimed wood here: Western Reclaimed Timber - Customer Photos or on our Houzz profile: WRT on Houzz Those might be a good place to look for some inspiration!

**Q: Is it possible to ship this item to canada if we pay for shipping?** *(in Product Questions)*

Hi there! We love the map on reclaimed wood. Is it possible to ship to Canada? What would shipping be? Thanks so much! -Hilarie Kelly

A: If you are close to the border you might be able to use a parcel delivery service. I usually use Ship Happens (http://www.myshiphappens.com/) but there are many others. It is usually much easier to bring an item across the border yourself than it is to ship it across via mail or courier.

**Q: Love this floor! Where did you get it and what is the name.** *(in Photo Questions)*

We live in Vancouver and are looking for wide plank hardwood

A: Wide Plank is a great company! I've worked with them often and they produce excellent quality products. You can find more info about them here: http://www.houzz.com/pro/wideplankhardwood/wide-plank-hardwood-ltd.

**Q: Help - Exposed Brick Gone Wrong** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hello All -

Today I finally had the courage to get the brick exposed in my living room done, and I have to admit I'm not excited about the outcome. While I knew there was going to be some cinderblock based on earlier holes in the wall, I never expected this much. The good news is that the wall is in wonderful condition, but unfortunately I need to do some clean-up work on the bad side of the wall.
I plan on having some reclaimed wood pipe shelved installed on the bad side of the wall to help hid the imperfection, as well as potentially getting the brick tiles installed. It's an apartment in New York that definitely has the industrial theme, so I'm not totally broken by the results of today. I was really just hoping to come home to a beautiful exposed brick wall.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me since I think I'm beyond the point of thinking about putting the Sheetrock over everything.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks - Chris

A: You can do a really easy reclaimed wood paneling. We make t&g reclaimed barnboard that can look like this: And I'm sure there will be someone near where you are that could do something similar.
