We chose Gary Brown Homes because they have a kitchen designer (Jenny) who worked with us to create a plan that we could visualize through computer renditions. Their construction supervisor and crew were skilled, professional and considerate. They finished on budget and best of all, the final product exceeded our expectations in appearance and function . > We later asked Gary Brown Homes to tackle a much smaller project in our home because we trusted they would do a good job. No foundation addition/renovation was required for this project. > > Demolition involved in this project included removing the old cabinets, peninsula and hardwood flooring, removing ceiling soffit that was in the dining room, scraping the entire lower level popcorn ceiling, removal of a wall between the kitchen and dining room (to create one large open floor plan space), and removing the old sink area to create the large, uniform rectangular open space (the old sink was positioned at an odd 45 degree angle jutting out into the kitchen). > > New construction included re-framing/re-building the above mentioned sink area, installing custom Plato cabinetry with a large standalone island (12 ft by 4.5 ft), installing custom desk area with cabinets above the desk, installing granite counter tops, installing back splash tile, installing - staining - and clear coating the new 5 inch wide plank hardwood floors (from front door entryway, throughout the kitchen and into the small hallway leading to the laundry room also including the 2 steps down to the living room), installing new ceiling drywall to the renovated area, texturing and knocking down the entire lower level ceiling (living room, kitchen, family room and hallways), closing off the entryway from the old dining room to the family room, widening the entryway into the new kitchen great space (now 54 inches wide), installing two new windows, installing drywall and insulation to the newly renovated areas, installing baseboard trim throughout the entire new area, moving plumbing lines for the sink and faucet (moved and installed within the island) as well as the water line for the new location of the refrigerator, installing 3 pendant lights above the island as well as 13 new recessed LED can lights, installing 17 new electrical outlets (including two - 220 volt outlets, one for the double wall oven, one for the induction cooktop), installing 8 new light switches with dimmers, caulking and painting the newly created inside space, caulking and painting the outside including the new windows, and finally, installing all the new stainless appliances (refrigerator, double wall oven, induction cooktop, range hood (vented to the outside), microwave, beverage center (in the island), and dishwasher (in the island). Rex was our project manager who became the "go to" contact throughout the remainder of the renovation journey, but was in no way isolated from Paul or Jenny. Rex, in short, was simply amazing. He kept everyone (from permits, demolition, plumbing, electrical, drywall, ceiling repair, flooring, painting, cabinet install, granite install, appliance install) on a schedule and over the course of our 10-12 week renovation, we never varied from the "master schedule" but by a day or so.
