We requested an AIRBNB compliance inspection for our basement suite in our modest and old single family home (original house dates back to 1911). The City had other motives. When they sent in their property use inspector, he went on a witch hunt and stung us with City orders for old historical work (long before we bought our place) which had not been permitted. Truly terrible situation. Our AIRBNB business was wiped out and now we were fighting to keep our house intact without having to tear part of it down or do costly upgrades. And for what? The work had been done between 40 and 50 years ago by our estimation. Felt like we were caught in a Franz Kafka novel in dealing with the awful, dysfunctional bureaucracy that is the City of Vancouver . > Found Kerr online and asked them to have a look into our predicament. They sent in Elton Donald and Alex Baro to meet with us. Very kind, professional and knowledgeable. Helped put us at ease from the outset. They followed up with a proposal which we accepted and then we started working with Steven Butler. > Steven demonstrated that he can work with the City, as difficult and frustrating as it is, and come out very successful. > Steven is a delight to work with. He's fast, practical, non confrontational and gets results. The City staff know and trust him. Kerr came by a few days after our request for a quote, quoted accurately, and started work within 10 days of us signing the straightforward contract. The work was done within three weeks of the start. We also added some extra work which was handled as a change request. 1) The work started remarkably soon after signing the contract. 2) The work was completed on budget. 3) The work completed on schedule. 4) We were able to openly discuss how to deal with some more difficult work and come to reasonable agreement on how to proceed. 5) The quality was OK, but note that we are quite fussy. We felt we had to stay on top of things to make sure things were done to our satisfaction. A: The fascia is a type of MDO (paper face plywood) it was very well coated with paint on all sides prior to installation and then coated once in the field.
