They built-out door frames and garage door frames when replacing our garage siding which we found out later was an unorthodox procedure. It looks very thick, tacky and doesn't match the rest of our house. The trim on top of trim was not even caulked and painted. Big, long seams are showing. They also had pieced together flashing (and were unhappy when they had to replace). All trim nails and nail holes are rusting. When the job was over, we never had a walk through. Does anyone know if that's even feasable in this area? A: I agree with the above comment; in our experience with decks we prefer using our own technicians for liability and quality reasons. Unless you have a preexisting personal relationship with your contractor I'd say most places would prefer to do the work themselves. **Q: Exteriors** *(in Before & After)* Need help with building a deck? I forgot to say we will be painting the door red. A: Stain or paint would both work; stain would make more of a statement, whereas paint would tie in with the rest of the home like those around yours as well. Maybe consider shutters or accent siding like in the photos I attached. **Q: Complete outside renovation of my 1906 home in Corning NY** *(in Before & After)* The house was stripped of two layers of siding and resided. All the windows, doors, porches and roof were replaced as well. The before photo does have the new front porches in it. A: Love what you did with the siding and trim! Gorgeous exterior renovation! **Q: Upgrading Exterior of house** *(in Design Dilemma)* We are looking for ideas on how to update the exterior of our house. This house is situated in a lake resort, and the exterior needs a face lift. Right now we have beige stucco, with brown trim, a brown tin roof, grey composite deck with copper bricks underneath. I am looking for suggestions on what to do with the peak of the roof above the stucco. I thought about potentially putting stone up there (possibly quality stone veneering). You cant see from the attached picture, but the porch on the left hand side has beige vinyl siding just like what is under the window. I am also hoping to keep this project under $10,000. Does anyone have any suggestions? Cedar shakes? composite shakes? stone veneering? Color combinations (have to work with brown and beige). I will also be landscaping the front yard to add some green to it. A: Have you considered coupling different colors of siding?
