## Community Q&A

**Q: Need help with my kitchen** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I am totally re-doing our family room which leads to the kitchen and I feel like the kitchen is so dated and won't flow with the colours I'm using for the Family Room. I'm painting the family room in a gray (maybe Revere Pewter, Stonington gray, Covington not sure yet but in the gray family). That room will have blue/green and white accents. Now, what can I do with the kitchen to help with the flow? In the next 5-10 years I plan on completely changing it (cabinets, counters and all but for now want a simple fix). Maybe paint the cupboards, kitchen table? Any suggestions?

A: I would carry the gray into kitchen. Replace the hardware with modern hardware and possibly paint the cabinets white. Replacing the dining set would help, or for a temporary fix paint the chairs a fun green color. I love the wood shades.

**Q: Confused on tile selection.** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Going to get stainless hood up to the ceiling. Need to pick tile backsplash. My husband is becoming impatient with me. What should I do?

A: I agree with most, you have some great backsplash choices. I prefer the second option because the colors are slightly more subtle.

**Q: Help with ideas for my family room!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I have a new house and am not sure what to do with the family room. It measures 20x13 ft. The goal is comfortable and not too dark (there is not a lot of direct sunlight). The only things pictured I am wedded to are the grey sofa, the rug and the bookshelves. Not sure if there should be a small love seat where the red chair is? Also having a lot of trouble with the wall color - I want it to be warm, but am not a fan of brown? Thanks so much for your ideas!

A: I love the style of the room. I wouldn't add a loveseat, from your pictures it looks like a loveseat would be too big and feel to heavy. Find a unique modern chair to go in its place. Something small and colorful to pull out the red/orange in the rug. You can also use two chairs flanking the fireplace. A mirror over the sofa would open up the room and add light. I would also replace the sconces with something a little more updated and add cream or white curtains on all the windows. For wall colors go with a light taupe, something that has a touch of warm gray to it. BM Revere Pewter and weimaraner are great colors. Hope that helps!
