**★★★★★ — Jan Di Nuscio, May 2019**

> I have been fortunate to have worked with Warren Sheets on more than a half a dozen projects throughout the years, and I am always amazed at the results. He does contemporary design and traditional design (I've had him do both for me over the years).
>
> His sense of color is beyond-beyond, and he always seems to be ahead of the current styles and trends. He is a master at coming up with beautiful fabrics and materials - some of which I never would have thought would compliment each other. Most of all, he listens to my thoughts, and then expands upon them with unbelievable creativity.
>
> In the end, I am always so pleased.

> Passion, quality, caring for and protecting the customer's interests are just some of the words describing Warren Sheet Design. A team that will listen, make great recommendations, listen to your own personal interests and make it all work. Warren cares about the projects he works on as much, if not more than the home owners which is unique. He also processes great knowledge in working with architects, contracts and others to help ensure the home owners are protected and the owners interests are well served.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Mid-Century Modern Living Room** *(in Home Decorating)*

Hello - I am furnishing my living room and need help with end table and lamps. I have gold metal with glass top end tables. Should I purchase lamps that match the metal or should I go with a dark wood to match the coffee table and leather chair?

A: I fully concure - Use a color, and if in doubt use white - but color is best!

**Q: Which black countertop would you choose ?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We have a secondary mini kitchen that we did a fun black & white floor with white shaker cabinets. Trying to decide between 3 black/dark grey granite tops.

A: Be aware that a honed stone will appear as dark grey - not black. Also, honed stones are far more susceptible to stains. I would only consider a singular colorization, vs a stone with grey or white or mica type markings.

I would strongly consider Black Quartz, Black Memoriale Polished Granite in lieu of Black Absolute Granite or some of the others, because Black Quartz, or Black Memoriale or Polished Granite always seem to be the most forgiving of practically any food or wine staining. Note that Black Absolute Granite and Black Memoriale Granite are NOT the same. Black Quartz is the least expensive option (Dal Tile), and Black Memoriale Granite is the most expensive Granite (available from Italy or thru Warren Sheets Design). Best of luck!

**Q: What to do with this old thing?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

This ugly fireplace is in need of a facelift! Someone help me fix it!!! (it’s not in use & no plans to use it)

A: Clad the Fireplace with Stone or tile, like we did in this project.

**Q: Advice - billed for design services before agreed to scope** *(in Other)*

Advice / sanity check needed.
I reached out to friend who is a designer to see if they would help with a few rooms of new house. In an email I provided a list of the rooms I likely needed help with and a budget range, and said I was still working on it and the budget would need to cover entire house - including their work and rooms I’d do on my own. We set up a date to go see the house and have an initial meeting. We had a meeting to which they brought four potential designs for living room and a budget (that exceeded total budget I had said I was working with). We talked through designs, budgets, but didn’t decide on anything and agreed to go to design center as next step as nothing I saw quite fit what I was thinking. This initial meeting was the first time I saw a contract and was explained fee schedules.

I was surprised to receive a bill for $4.5K that included around $3K of work before that initial meeting. I am fine, and expect, to pay for the meetings. But, the work that was done before we had a initial meeting to discuss scope, budget and design direction seems unfair. I didn’t authorize nor expect that work. And to do that much work before talking to me on what exactly we want seems odd.

This becomes awkward as we’re friends. I reached out to explain my surprise and ask to have a phone call. The response back was that they had done four designs but only charged me for one.

Am I off base in challenging and questioning the initial work?

A: The Design Professional should have submitted to you of Letter of Agreement outlining the intended Scope of Work that they expected to perform, PRIOR TO beginning work --- at a minimum.

My advice would be for you to have a "live" conversation in order to clear the air. Your friendship is more important. If you decide to discontinue their Design Services, then you should not be obligated to pay more than 50% of what they are billing to date - i.e., $ 1,500.

If however, you decide to continue on, then request a Letter of Agreement before proceeding, which outlines the Scope of Work and all of the "what-ifs". But most importantly, restore your friendship!

Best of luck.

**Q: What is the paint color on the front door?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Thank you

A: This color of Red is from the 'Grand Entrance' Collection from Benjamin Moore Paints, specified by Warren Sheets Design. It is a high gloss finish.

**Q: bed?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Can you tell me the manufacturer of the bed?

A: This Bed was carved by a local Furniture maker in Los Angeles whom we use. It is made to order. Thank you for your inquiry.
