> Horrible instalation! Had tech come out too make some adjustments, he was stunned at how bad things were.

> Shad Helped us with our Kitchen. We were putting an addition on our home and were adding a kitchen. This kitchen was very large. We sat down with him with many pre-conceived ideas and he listened and asked if he could make some recommendations. We said sure but we really like our ideas. By the time the process was all done we totally loved his ideas. We went with everything that he suggested and have not regarded it. Shad was very easy to work with throughout the whole process. We told him that we wanted to install the kitchen cabinets to save money. He asked if we had experience in doing this and as we communicated with him he agreed and let us install our own cabinets. We told him that my father installed kitchen cabinets for years and I had helped him. So he was fine with allowing us to modify the normal process. I felt like he just was looking out for our best interest. I would go with Shad again if I ever need another kitchen. A+ all the way

**Comment from Hingeworks:**

> Thanks Wes- it was a fun project, and turned out so welcoming and practical for the whole family.

**★★★★★ — paultpg, June 2014**

> Shad is the man when it comes to Kitchen Design! He also is one of the most honest and hard working guys I know. You can tell he really cares about you and want to do well for you. When he designed my kitchen he let me give all the input I'd ever want, but then offered some really great advice on what and why certain things could change and it was all for the better. He's very easy to get along with and very knowledgable! I have also recommended him to my very best friends and will continue to do so!

**Comment from Hingeworks:**

> Well, it was so fun to work on your project also. Having 3 tiered staggered heights, and 3 height counters made for a very interesting space. Turned out nice though- just wish we would have had all the lights on in the kitchen for this shot. :)

**★★★★ — Shirley Van Ausdal, May 2014**

> With creative expertise, our kitchen and bathrooms were designed to fit the existing spaces. Adequate time was spent in helping us select cabinet design, coordinating counter tops and floor tile. Seven years later they are still beautiful. The doors and drawers work as well as new.

**Comment from Hingeworks:**

> Shirley, thanks for letting us help you on your project. Great taste, and great workmanship made for a nice finished product.

**★★★★★ — ishmot2, May 2014**

> I found Shad's knowledge and experience in kitchen design to be very helpful. He had great input and suggestions that we took into consideration, and used. I am very grateful for the help he gave us in designing our kitchen. Helping us realize that years from then it wouldn't matter how nice the cabinets
> looked if the drawer fronts were falling off a couple years down the road. I work in masonry and am always preaching quality for the best price, that is what Shad got for us.

**Comment from Hingeworks:**

> Your kitchen turned out so nice. Great width and spaciousness, very soothing tones. Most importantly- great quality cabinets that should last for generations.

  - Description: This homeowner owns this pioneer home that was built in the late 1800s or early 1900s. So, she wanted to make the newly designed kitchen look as authentic as possible without losing great design features and the convenience of modern day appliances and technology. The yellow painted cabinets with inset doors and latch hardware set the tone. She took the time to find the retro sink and range on Ebay. We had quite the challenge to get the lowered countertop in a marble style material without it be…

  - Description: This kitchen project entailed an older rambler home with three bedrooms and two baths and a 9' x 9' kitchen. The homeowners envisioned a dream kitchen someday. They had plenty of space in their backyard, where we were able to plan and build a great room addition. The kitchen took on a life of it's own as we developed the kitchen off the concept of peeling plaster look from a brick wall. It sure came out nice in the end.

  - Description: This beautiful condo kitchen was a project inspired by a client looking for clean and sleek. He expressed an interest in white. The original kitchen was virtually all white. I emphasized the need to have some contrast so that the white would be appreciated more. So he allowed me to sprinkle some terracotta color into the kitchen. We had fun with the lighting and arch cut-outs in the vertical walls shared in the adjoining entry way.

  - Description: The home owner had an old 60s-70s kitchen in a tight space with little room to expand, so they decided to add on instead. The addition is easy to see by the beams in the ceiling. They wanted to have a spacious kitchen, and were very particular on the cabinet finish which was a pickled finish combined with a glaze on the darker cabinets. We think it turned out beautiful!

  - Description: This client was so much fun to work with. She had a traditional simple galley kitchen to start with. We moved the opposing wall into the living room to give us the additional two feet for walkway space around the island. The angled bar seating section came simply out of working around the bay window. Some of the highlights include the raised dish cabinet in the center of the kitchen for ease of clean up and preparation, the two separate single dish drawers, and the concrete countertop with integ…

  - Description: This beautiful home was built by a renown builder in Southern Utah. I had the privilege to work with the homeowners early in the design phase. We made some major changes to the basic locations of the original plan. The balance and flow of the space was so crucial since the space was large and there needed to be purpose to every space in the kitchen. The client allowed me a lot of design liberty to balance color, texture, shapes and products to finish with one of the nicest kitchen spaces of that…

  - Description: This project was so much fun. We actually moved the kitchen from where the hutch is as an enclosed g-shaped kitchen to where it is now. We also remodeled most of the rest of this level of the home, from a new laundry room, a raised master bedroom and bathroom inside a very large garage space, etc. The client was very committed to their theme. They wanted this to be rustic but classic also. I think we acheived that for the most part.

  - Location: Not specified

  - Description: The objective of this kitchen was simplicity in a transitional or shaker style. They loved dark woods, and so it was a nice contrast to the rustic wood flooring selection they made. We stuck with a single level island and stainless steel appliances, therefore cleaning is a cinch.
- [Traditional Detailed Neutral Kitchen- New Construction](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/traditional-detailed-neutral-kitchen-new-construction-pj-vj~564144)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 9
  - Description: This kitchen was meant to be more subtle in tones while grand in texture and architecture. The heavy beams in the ceiling and the large island make for a very interesting balance in sizes and space. Small touches like the couple inch drop for the seating section of the island, the bench seating with cushions, the mitered cabinet door detail, and the random open shelving add to the creative side of this kitchen project.
- [Showroom- Retro Eclectic](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/showroom-retro-eclectic-pj-vj~584672)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 3
  - Description: This kitchen display was a very tight space. We ended up with a european under counter refrigerator drawers in the island to complete the work triangle. The landing space worked out nicely...a lot of fun for a small space. Very rich in unique cabinet storage features.
- [Transitional Cherry Kitchen- Remodel](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/transitional-cherry-kitchen-remodel-pj-vj~571560)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 7
  - Description: This client had a flood that destroyed the kitchen. They took the time to work through design concepts, and loved cherry. We worked hard to get them the seating they needed in the island for their family size, and the wife was very interested in a large versatile hutch. We ended up with a design that had functional sections of the kitchen, from the storage to the cooking to the preparation to the decorative, etc.
- [Tiny Cabin Kitchen- Remodel](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/tiny-cabin-kitchen-remodel-pj-vj~564644)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 13
  - Description: For this cabin, the client wanted a better use of space. She also wanted to get a dishwasher and compactor in there also. But, she did not want to sacrifice storage space or creativity. So, with a lot of brainstorming, we came up with this design. It was a very tight space, but that added to the challenge to find solutions. She loves the single dish drawer, the smallest trash compactor, the cabinets to the ceiling and the single bowl sink.
- [White Classical Kitchen- Remodel](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/white-classical-kitchen-remodel-pj-vj~569013)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 5
  - Description: This kitchen remodel was dictated by the client for the most part. As you can tell, she was committed to white. We went with raised panel thermofoil doors for the ease of cleaning and the lower investment as well. The large and tall pantry cabinet added so much to their storage space, and the hanging pot rack was a nice addition for functional and focal point reasons. The full kitchen is a nice contrast with the wood flooring.
- [Traditional Cherry Kitchen With Triple Soffit- Remodel](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/traditional-cherry-kitchen-with-triple-soffit-remodel-pj-vj~567565)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 6
  - Description: This kitchen was in a parade home for the St George Utah Area Parade of Homes in the mid 90s. The client wanted to bring some style and feature improvements to the kitchen without taking away from the uniquely triple stacked soffit element. They also requested to have a wood hood and a warming drawer very close to the cooktop. Not only were we able to meet these requests, but we also integrated a wood wine rack, and integrated cherry paneling and cabinetry in the peninsula that served the living…

## Community Q&A

**Q: not a question, just an observation** *(in Photo Questions)*

Looking at the before, it is pretty outstanding what you accomplished. It looks so vintage and yet crisp and clean. Ok, a wee question, are the cabinets gold or soft yellow? ...well done, brings a smile to my heart.

A: Thank you, it was a fun project. They are soft or sunflower yellow.

**Q: Fantastic!** *(in Photo Questions)*

No question here. Just want to say it is very nicely done! Looks authentic.

A: Thank you.

**Q: Peggy** *(in Photo Questions)*

Can you please tell me if the sink is new or salvaged. If new, please share maker.

A: Sorry about the delay. The sink is salvaged. The client found it on Ebay.

**Q: Any idea on the color of these cabinets??** *(in Photo Questions)*

My countertops are this color and instead of replacing expensive granite, I'd like to repaint cabinets. Any idea of the color of the cabinets???

A: These cabinets are white...is that what you are asking?

**Q: Is there a dishwasher in this kitchen?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Anna, yes, it is on the left of the sink perpendicular to the sink. It has a cup pull on the built-in decorative panel covering the dishwasher in the middle top.

**Q: Need help remodeling kitchen** *(in Design Dilemma)*

My kitchen in Arizona is big but poorly laid out I would like to open it up to the rest of the house so I can see from the front of the house to the back which doesn't leave me any upper cabinets any suggestions?

A: To make up for lost upper wall cabinet storage, add a couple taller base cabinets (45"+) in the island or the end of a wall run of cabinets. I have designed those into multiple kitchens, and clients love them.
