A: Astonishing! Looks like a high end boutique! **Q: Ugh. New house 1969 kitchen and a corian countertop that's not going a** *(in Design Dilemma)* I'm moving into a house that hasn't had any upgrading in 30+ years. I'm having the entire house repainted, the popcorn ceiling taken down and the floors in acacia laminate. Challenge is, I can't afford a new kitchen. The cabinets are veneer and my painter says they can be painted. Trouble is the corian cannot. At best it's what I call, bingo ceiling smoker tobacco yellow! So. The house colors will be whites and in the kitchen a light grey. Floor is darker brown. White cabinets are out for now. Black too. My dream kitchen is white with marble or Quartz or cement countertops. To address my challenges was thinking maybe pewter, or a slate grey? We don't want to coat it with bricks or wood. But do want to make something impressing with it, as it's the first thing you see as you enter. Any suggestion what to put on? It has great bones, recently added granite, stainless appliances and tile backsplash which won't change but what should I do now? We are contemplating wood floors in the living room so should I bring this into the kitchen as well? Should I paint the cabinets off white with a glaze? Is there a creative way to get rid of the wave on the top cabinets ( i.e. cut a rectangle and replace with an inset of frosted galss)? Add hardware? Add a range vent and hide the micro? Should I paint the Island different? Should I just paint the tan walls and add hardware to see if that helps? Currently my home is traditional but would like to modify towards rustic contemporary We live in the mountains of Arizona A: White cabinets would look good with your dark countertops. Add nice brush nickel hardware to the cabinets. To match appliances. If you are changing the flooring go lighter as well. But make sure it will tie in with the rest of the colors.
