> Andrew and his team at Otis Creek Construction did a great job on creating and building my U shaped raised garden bed. They were pleasant, on time and on budget! Can’t wait to start my spring garden!

**Comment from Otis Creek Construction:**

> Thank you! We can't wait to see all your amazing plants in your new garden beds!

**★★★★★ — Alyssa Pates-Westerman, April 2021**

> I was referred to Andrew a couple years ago for some house projects I was wanting to tackle. He has been great at communicating via text, email, or phone call, and I always professional. He pricing is fair and work is done very well. He has worked on trim, roofing of a patio, a f’bathroom remodel (flooring, vanity/plumbing), kitchen sink disposal and basin/faucet replacement), and more. I have more projects for him to tackle this spring and summer and feel confident he’ll do great work. I recommend Otis Construction to anyone who is looking for someone to do honest work and who has a commitment to do top notch work.

**Comment from Otis Creek Construction:**

> Thanks for the kind words Alyssa! We always enjoy working with you.

> Andrew was amazing!! I called 4 contractors that day and he was the only one that was willing to come out and give me a bid. He completed the drywall work for me for a great price. He showed up when he said he would and he was very professional in his work.
> I would recommend him to any of my friends and family!!

**Comment from Otis Creek Construction:**

## Community Q&A

**Q: what color are those Shingles?** *(in Photo Questions)*

what color are those Shingles?

A: My apologies, I believe these were actually Midnight Black

**Q: Waterfall vs. Corner Seating?? Kitchen Island Size??** *(in Polls)*

Our original architectural designs had a 12ft island with seating on 2 sides. Our designer has reconstructed to 10ft island with waterfall so allowing seating on 1 side only. Need help deciding! Waterfall or corner seating? 10 or 12ft island?

Both my hubby and I love to entertain, cook and spend time around the island. We have 2 young kids and see weeknight meals on the island as well as for homework. I love the idea of corner seating to be able to do casual weeknight meals there and be able to have tv on if there's a game we want to watch. On the other hand, a waterfall would be beautiful esp as it's a high traffic area. As for size, I know it will require more slab, more $$ and a seam down the middle (which I don't mind) for 12ft island but I love the idea of having a big island and maybe even a biger 42" workstation sink.

When I called the fabricator, they mentioned that they are doing a lot less waterfalls these days...is it just too expensive or going out of fashion??

Anyways, all good problems. Appreciate any good insight from this community, thx!

A: I think there’s a potential you would cause an obstruction in that pathway to the dining room from the kitchen if you put seating on the end of the island. The 12’ vs 10’ is based on if you want symmetry with island and main kitchen cabinets ending at the same plane.

**Q: A "would you rather?" question** *(in Building a Home)*

Between our cash on hand and the sale value of our home (100% equity), we would have enough cash to build our home, with plenty of padding for overages.
Early on, I was dead-set on securing a loan to fund our build, then pay the loan back quickly once the house sold. We have young children (7, 7 and 1) and I wanted minimal disturbance for them during this process. I didn't want to move twice if I didn't have to.
However, we have an offer from a neighbor to purchase our house. The buyers are eager to get in, but they would wait if needed. We have a family member (brother) with a vacant cabin who is willing to let us move in for only minimal rent and maintenance/mowing. I have to say... now I'm tempted to skip the bank loan, sell the home so we have that cash, and move our family of 5, plus a dog, into this cabin.
Let me tell you about this cabin... it's in good structural shape. It has one bedroom, one bathroom, and one large space for the living/dining/kitchen/laundry. I think it's about 900 square feet total.
The downside is we'll have to store all of our stuff. The upside is that we would save several thousand dollars if we skipped the loan.
So what would you rather do? Sell the home and remain 100% debt free, yet live in a tiny house for anywhere between 10 and 15 months? Or just take the loan and enjoy not having to move twice? I would appreciate any thoughts you have!

A: Without a doubt live in the cabin. Your kids will grow closer together and much stronger as a family. Plus the extra money saved by not financing can fund a fun vacation in the future possibly.

**Q: Window measurements** *(in Photo Questions)*

What are the dimensions of the windows above the planter box?

A: Any chance I can look at this plan? I have potential clients.

**Q: Concrete mantle** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Here is the mantle. The picture is on the adjacent wall. Looking for a rustic look.

A: Rita,
Update us on what you've decided! We're excited to see your progress.

**Q: I need advice on the front of my house** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are building a new house, and are only 3 days into the 2nd month, and already I have an issue with how the front is going to look. Because of having a corner fireplace insert, we could not put windows in our living room. I'm fine with that since there will be plenty of light coming in thru the huge windows up top. However, from the outside, it looks soooo plain. What could I do to relieve this blank look without living room windows? Any advice would be appreciated.
Attached are a couple pictures of what it looks like to date.
We've gotten our posts on yesterday.

A: Personally I believe you could make it up in landscaping or maybe build on a larger porch. I know it seems a little late but probably a large porch. You could frame in two wings off the side of that front build over and then leave some of the deck uncovered. Build it out one way possibly instead of both way.
