Literally choose absolutely ANY OTHER builder. My experience with K Hovnanian Homes was so horrific, not only do I NEVER want to build a house again, but I also question even considering the idea of buying another house. > We will start from the very beginning, which was picking our options and signing our contract. K Hovnanian Homes claims they have “pre-selected packages” to avoid material delays and provide a “guarantee” of completing your home as soon as possible. K Hovnanian Homes will give you this line and let you know what your extremely limited options are in their “design center”. Not only will K Hovnanian Homes claim it is to prevent delays, but they will also say you are limited to even fewer choices based upon “homeowners association” regulations. K Hovnanian Homes will say the homeowner’s association will limit your options (on the exterior of the house) due to what other surrounding buys have selected, prior to you. I can tell you for a FACT, this is a lie. Now it may not always be a lie, but in my case, it was absolutely a lie. > Now while we were selecting our options (in an extremely rushed amount of time we were allowed to pick out options and sign the contract), our salesperson with K Hovnanian Homes, told us we couldn’t pick any of the brick options that we liked and that they had samples of. Our salesperson then told us they had this “NEW” brick that was supposed to be exactly what we were looking for. Of course, she didn’t have any samples but told us it was this new white brick that now one else had and assured us it looked great. In good faith we took the salesperson at her word and went with it. More on this specific issue will come later. > Back to the actual portion of designing our house and signing our contract. K Hovnanian Homes will attempt to pressure you into using their lender and title company. They will try to tell you there is a “cash incentive” to use their lender. In reality, it still cost a lot more, due to all the fees they will charge you on the back end of the deal. If you try to tell them you want to use your own lender and or title company, they will be very quick to tell you can not me late at all, or you will pay multiple penalties/ fees. Mind you, you can’t be late at all, but K Hovnanian Homes can be as late as they want and or be late as many times as they want. > So, in the approximately two-hour time span, that we were in the model home we picked our options and signed our contract. Not only was this extremely rushed but it was not enjoyable. Due to the rush, the salesperson not only missed SEVERAL options we selected in the contract/ mistakes in the contract, but we also left the office under the false belief that we would still be going to a design center to fishing picking the rest of our options.
