Belinda grew up in elegant and beautiful surroundings in her home country of Cuba. Her family emigrated here when she was ten, thus the importance of creating beauty and harmony in one's surroundings. "Home is where you are," she says. "It's a haven and the core of our existence. To create an environment that is beautiful and inviting, I draw on my experience with color, form and balance," she says. "I want my clients to love the finished result.”

Belinda is adept at working in soft, neutral palettes or strong color. Whatever the style, Belinda opts for natural and sustainable materials whenever possible, including wood, marble, slate, granite and textured or patterned textiles made of linen, silk, wool, and cotton. All of this enables her to create the sophisticated yet livable interiors that are the signature of Belinda’s Style.

**Q: Is there a color rule of thumb for kitchen islands?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hello & thanks for any insights you might have!  I am getting ready to start our kitchen makeover & have a question about the island.  I will be painting the cabinets white & would like to add beadboard to the island {my ultimate goal is to create an ecclectic coastal feel}.  I like the idea of painting the island a different color but was wondering --- should the cabinet & beadboard color be the same?  Or can you have white cabinets on one side & a different colored beadboard on the other?  Thanks so much!
