**Q: Can I mix granite or quartz with carerra marble?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I am buying a condo with a lovely master bath.  The floor, shower and separate soaking tub are all tiled in carerra marble. unfortunately so is the double sink vanity top and it has a large rust stain on it.  I need to replace the top, but do not want to put finicky marble back on.  What granite or quartz color/style "plays nice" with the existing marble? DISCLOSURE--I really hate black granite, the obvious choice.  Hint: I'm painting the walls BM Stratton Blue......love watery blues and greens in baths.  What am I missing?  Thanks!

A: Absolutely!  I also would recommend going with a solid white Quartz!  Beautiful!  I also love Carrera!

**Q: Update ideas** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Do not like the look of these windows any ideas for updating without replacing windows?  Wall color and trim also needs updating

A: Here's an idea for how to make it disappear!  Pull the darkest color from the stone and paint the walls AND trim the same dark color. Then I would pull the lightest color from the stone and paint all the wood in your mantel (matte, not gloss!).  If that is a fake plant, replace it with art pieces you can lean on the mantel or interesting pottery pieces (nothing smaller than a canteloupe).  Have fun!

**Q: Halogen lighting with warm wall color** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Tried choosing a warm wall color to compliment our Brazilian cherry hardwood floor and slate entry, however, Sherwin-Williams Biltmore Buff looked canary yellow at night under our halogen recessed lighting. It was horrible!! Any suggestions for lighter shades? This is exhausting. This living room requires so much work.

A: If you don't want gray, bump up the Biltmore Buff to SW-7694 Dromedary Camel.  Buff doesn't have enough weight for the light in that space.

**Q: Gloss or matte ceiling tiles?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We're replacing the ceiling of our kitchen - dining room.  Originally I was just going to do a plain, drywall ceiling, but for a few reasons we're now looking at glue-on, embossed ceiling panels.  First choice at the moment is the Fasone Traditional 1 panel in white.  The white is a very high gloss.  Our home is a nice but modest Craftsman bungalow with a lot of wood trim.  So would you paint them, I suppose to a more satin finish?  That's an extra step, but probably the way to go.  Right????  I've never really spent a lot of time thinking about ceilings!

A: I agree with Lampert, stay away from high gloss!  If you decide to use those panels, take the sheen down to matte. Thinking of a tongue and groove wood ceiling is making me drool!

**Q: Tan color for exterior of house** *(in Design Dilemma)*

My house is small and all stucco. We need a nice light to medium tan color to go with white windows and black entry door.

A: SW2835 Craftsman Brown. Lot too light, not too dark. Just right!

**Q: Paint colors for new house in Maine** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We currently live in Florida but are building in year-round house in midcoast Maine.  It's a traditional 2-story cottage style and will have light wood floors and white kitchen cabinets.  It also faces north with a covered front porch.  Trying to choose colors remotely is driving me crazy!   Do we just resign ourselves to re-painting everything once we've moved in and had a chance to study the light?  In Florida I love cool grays and sea colors, but we want something warmer for the new place (buff?).  A little yellow goes a long way, ditto for peach, nor do we want olive-tinged walls, and one of us says "definitely not gray"... So how can I choose something reliably neutral via long-distance?

A: Because it is cottage-style and because the home faces north, white is the way to go.  As a fellow Floridian, I would go with subtle sea colors that you love.  SW-6203 Spare White and SW-6204 Sea Salt for the trim.  You could also paint some lower kitchen cabinets SW-6207 Retreat.  Perfect!  When can I visit? :)
