> Kirsten, Becky and Mary of Haus Interior Design are amazing and a pleasure to work with. We have been working with this talented team for the past 6 years and they have transformed our house into our dream home. “Team Haus”, as I like to refer to them, take your ideas and visions and transform them into beautiful and functional spaces to live and entertain guests. Most recently we overhauled our basement into an amazing office with beautiful builtins, added a luxurious full bath, and a kids entertainment area with builtins, a large couch to accommodate lots of friends, and stunning textured wallpaper on the ceiling with a funky chandelier. Everyone that visits is blown away by how amazing the project turned out. Thank you Kirsten, Becky, and Mary. We absolutely love the amazing dream home you have helped us build. We look forward to working with you on future projects because we aren’t finished yet! Stephen & Rachel

> Kirsten, Becky and Mary were all great to work with! My project was non-standard, but they were patient with me and most importantly provided expert guidance at a value....it's truly amazing what an expert eye can bring to a project. I will refer them unequivocally!!

**★★★★★ — june barraza, March 2024**

> Let me start by saying, I love, love, love, Haus Interior Design. Thanks so much for capturing my vision and bringing my ordinary space to a level of brilliance! Every detail looks absolutely amazing.

**★★★★★ — Cathy Hoffman, Dec. 2023**

> Kirsten and her team are fabulous to work with. We needed to redo a family room that hadn't been touched in 20+ years. I was not looking forward to the process. But then we met and hired Kirsten. She came up with a design plan that was exactly what we needed, with special attention to lighting, which had become completely inadequate for our aging eyes. She and her colleague Becky designed a wall of bookshelves that is absolutely stunning. We love the results, guests have gushed about the room, and our whole family now uses the room together (even if engaged in parallel play!). Kirsten completely understands and works with budgetary concerns, and indeed, saved us from grossly overspending on an item that we had chosen on our own. Special shout-out to Kirsten's colleague Mary, who never failed to send us a very helpful weekly update (and graciously came to my son's rescue when he damaged an item of furniture before I'd even seen it!). The entire team is professional, rcreative, esponsive, reliable, and delightful.

> Kirsten and her team are so talented, creative, and on top of their game! They redesigned our first level, including a complete remodel/expansion of our kitchen, dining room, family room, new mudroom, and screened porch. My husband and I approached Haus thinking we knew exactly what we wanted for a lot of things, but Kirsten and Becky steered us toward many more tasteful and functional ideas. They perfectly blend attention to detail with big-picture planning to create beautiful designs that we're thrilled with.
>
> I love working with Kirsten and Becky because they don't just agree with everything we think we want - they tactfully show us other potential ideas. And when we're sure we want something "our way," they find a way to make it work beautifully. They're also super responsive and keep us on track throughout the process. There are so many beautiful, functional details we would have missed out on without Kirsten's expertise and great taste.
>
> Kirsten also referred us to our architect and kitchen cabinet designer, who have helped us improve our plans in those areas too. We can't wait to execute on the plans with Haus!

**★★★★★ — Peggy Enrich, Feb. 2023**

> Kirsten and her team helped us in planning and executing the renovations and decorating of our condo in DC’s West End. We couldn’t be happier with the process and the results.
>
> They transformed the condo into a beautiful and special space that works very comfortably to meet our living and entertaining desires.
>
> Working with Kirsten was an absolute pleasure. She is an excellent listener and was incredibly patient in dealing with our anxieties and ambivalences about the many decisions. She was personable and maintained a great sense of humor throughout. She continuously was full of good ideas, even when we at times kept asking for additional options. The working relationship felt entirely collaborative and comfortable. And she and her team were always very timely in keeping things moving forward.
>
> One of the wonderful things about working with Kirsten is that she consistently connected us with first-class businesses and services, both for the contracting and for purchases. And, thanks to Kirsten’s involvement, they were all impressively responsive to making us happy, correcting any problems and making sure things were right.
>
> To sum up, we would highly recommend Kirsten and Haus Interior Design. We feel lucky to have found her.

> Like many others, my husband and I embarked on a house refresh during the COVID lockdown. Despite my passion for design and the endless hours spent looking at pretty pictures, I knew I needed design help to re-decorate our breakfast and family rooms. Since this was my first time selecting and hiring a designer, I started pouring over online portfolios. Kristen's portfolio made my heart sing as I saw rooms with the feeling and style I was after but could not articulate. Kristin quickly responded to my inquiry and won me over on our first visit. Her energy, enthusiasm, and practicality were just the start. Her ability to visualize the possibilities and gently nudge us out of our comfort zone led to wonderful selections for both rooms. Kirsten and her senior designer, Becky, graciously indulged my desire to learn more about design decisions throughout the process. Kristen, Becky, and Mary worked together seamlessly to manage the many details, and I would highly recommend Haus Interior Design.

**★★★★★ — Happy Client, Dec. 2019**

> Kirsten understood our vision and delivered flawlessly. She has impeccable taste and a discerning eye for color and pattern but above all else she made the process FUN! Even my design skeptic husband is giddy with the results (and is eager to mix a drink or two at his gorgeous new bar). Her enthusiasm is palpable, her professionalism and responsiveness make it easy to do business with her, but I believe it's her attention to the finer details that truly sets her apart. Kirsten is a pro's pro and knows how to bring unique products, color and design elements together with her valuable guidance and turn a house in to a (beautiful and functional) home. I'd never consider anyone else for my next project!

**Comment from Haus Interior Design:**

> Thank you for the kind words! You guys are so much fun to work with and I am so thrilled that you like the way things turned out:)

**★★★★★ — sheilaremodel, Dec. 2018**

> We recently moved from a two bedroom condo to a 6 bedroom single family home and we would have been lost without Kirsten and her team. Kirsten and her team, and extended team of consultants and contractors, was amazing to work with. Starting with Kirsten's eye for design all the way through fabrication and installation - every step of the process was easy. We relied on Kirsten for contractor recommendations as well - from window treatment installations to painting and new floors, everyone Kristen recommended, and worked with, was professional and delivered fantastic results.
>
> Kirsten's recommendations, always being respectful of budget guidelines, were always spot on. She selected colors, textures, and iconic furniture pieces to make each room look unique and comfortable all at the same time.
>
> It is difficult to pick my "favorite" room as we love them all. What a fantastic experience working with Haus Interior Design!

**★★★★★ — scheller429, Dec. 2018**

> Haus Interior Design is a find! Kirsten and Sarah are delightful to work with—the perfect blend of professional and familiar. Kirsten helped us reimagine our very non-descript mid-century modern entry, living and dining areas into a cozy, cohesive space, complete with beautiful storage solutions and lovely and very comfortable furnishings. Kirsten and Sarah helped us streamline the decision making process on every aspect of the project and managed every aspect of the installation. I was hoping that I’d be able to finally say we liked our living space after more than a dozen years in our home. Haus helped us love it! Looking forward to working with Kirsten and Sarah on other projects.

**Comment from Haus Interior Design:**

> Thank you! We had so much fun with your project, and loved seeing the incredible transformation. Hearing that you love your space is the best thanks we could receive:)

**★★★★★ — J G, Dec. 2018**

> To put it simply, we could NOT have achieved our vision for our new house without Kirsten and her team. Thankfully, we found Kirsten and Sarah before we finalized our plans and broke ground. As it turns out, that was our best move!
>
> They were integral partners throughout the design and build process of our custom home. Their superb attention to detail, vast network of suppliers and incredible understanding and eye for our vision made the difference. We couldn't be any happier with how our home turned-out, both inside and out. And we couldn't have done it without Haus Interior Design!
>
> To give you a sense for the enormity of the project, we doubled the size of our previous house and radically changed our style, which means most of the furnishings and interior design elements from our previous house were not going to work in the new house. However, Kirsten methodically catalogued what we had versus what we needed and presented us with multiple proposals for all areas of the house. We LOVE everything they did and are still pinching ourselves as we can't believe we live in such a beautiful home!
>
> Thank you Kirsten and Sarah!

**Comment from Haus Interior Design:**

> Thank you! We loved working with you on this once-in-a-lifetime house, and it was a privilege to help create a home for your family. We are thrilled to hear that everyone is enjoying the new spaces--there are so many really amazing rooms! Thank you for letting us collaborate to bring it all to life.

> We were smart enough to hire Kirsten to help us design, furnish and remodel our 1880's farmhouse. This was an enormous project that she greeted with excitement and enthusiasm. She started by listening closely and helped us organize a vision for our new home. Kirsten understood that there was a budget and helped us balance where to splurge and where less expensive choices were still great design choices. In several cases, the less expensive options ended up being some of our absolute favorite choices. She worked tirelessly on many details and pulled together the whole house in a short amount of time. I would recommend Kirsten to anyone that wants to work with a a super talented designer with integrity and a good sense of humor. I look forward to working with Kirsten on additional projects over the years. She's a jem!

**Comment from Haus Interior Design:**

> Project of a lifetime! Thank you for trusting me with your home. I hope it's a suitable backdrop for years of memories with family and friends!

**★★★★★ — Anne Quinn, Dec. 2016**

> Kirsten, coordinated my kitchen perfectly with the rest of my house. She had fabulous design ideas. She streamlined the decision-making process and communicated regularly with the contractor and kitchen designer which saved me a lot of time. She kept everyone on task and on time. Working with her was easy and fun.

**Comment from Haus Interior Design:**

> Thank you so much! This was a really fun project to work on; here's to many years of happy entertaining in this gorgeous kitchen!

**★★★★★ — Wendy Wright, Dec. 2016**

> Kirsten has an incredible sensibility and really hones in on her client's aesthetic preferences. She is patient, thoughtful and knowledgeable. Her vision is extraordinary and she has exceeded our expectations repeatedly. We have done multiple projects together and she is \#1 on our speed dial when it comes to any design questions.

**Comment from Haus Interior Design:**

> Thank you! It's so much fun working with you--each of our projects together is unique and I love seeing your home reflect your family.

**★★★★★ — Alissa Miller, Dec. 2016**

> I worked with Kirsten and Haus Interior Design on my total kitchen remodel, and am SO happy I did. I had already selected my cabinets and thought I knew what I wanted for backsplash and countertops (thought I knew it all!), but was questioning whether I was making the right decisions and thought I needed some professional guidance before I went any further in my selections. Boy was that the right decision! She came up with some gorgeous ideas for interspersing dark and lighter cabinetry - which no one else had thought of in hours and hours of discussions - making the kitchen totally stand out from standard designs. The lighting selections were perfect, pulling together materials, color and style from throughout the entire kitchen. She presented me with several options for the rest of the finishes as well as furniture (new kitchen table), which crossed the spectrum as far as price was concerned. She also met my very stringent requirement that the finish on the kitchen table not be easily ruined through day to day family use, as well as fit our space and current (oversized!) kitchen chairs. She was able to read my preferences and budget needs and guide my decisionmaking so that we came up with a beautiful result. Our kitchen is not only stylish and functional, but she was able to guide us so our selections would be somewhat timeless and not outdated in five years. In addition to all of that, she is both the consummate professional and a lovely person to work with. Highly recommend.

**Comment from Haus Interior Design:**

> Thank you for such a nice review! This project was so much fun and I was honored to help. Hope the new kitchen is a welcoming space for family and friends for years to come. Amazing client!

**★★★★★ — Karin Wheeler, July 2016**

> My husband and I have worked with several designers over the years and Kirsten at Haus is at the top of our list! She worked within the constraints of our project, was completely professional, gave us new and innovative ideas, and was very responsive to all of our requests. We would HIGHLY recommend her!

**★★★★★ — FERNANDO'S MARBLE SHOP, INC, March 2016**

> Kirsten Kaplan is a true professional. Her creativity, attention to detail and organization is an asset to the tradespeople she works with and her clients alike. I have witnessed Kirsten’s sensitivity to her client’s needs and her ever expanding knowledge of materials and design. As a stone fabricator, proper planning is key to moving a project to successful and timely completion and Kirsten’s communication and organization skills facilitate the process and make working on any project with her and the Haus Interior Design team an absolute pleasure!

**★★★★★ — Watkins Circle, Feb. 2016**

> Kirsten is wonderful to work with--she has such helpful ideas and a full book of contacts to assist with every aspect of the renovation process. All her colleagues speak highly of her and enjoy collaborating with her on making the project a success. She does beautiful work!

**★★★★★ — Audrey Romano, July 2015**

> Kirsten is a fabulously talented designer. Her diverse designs work for clients with a range of tastes and ideas. She has helped me narrow down choices and explained why some of my selections would or would not work in my home and helped me with great ideas I had not considered. Her eye for color is incredible. I can't make a paint decision without her. Over the years she's helped me on a number of projects and continues to help us evolve our home as our family's needs change.

**★★★★★ — Talon Construction Inc., June 2015**

> Coming from a professional remodeling contractor with high expectations, Kirsten is very accommodating and easy to work with and she really knows her stuff.

**★★★★★ — cyndymama, May 2015**

> Working with Kirsten Kaplan has been nothing short of fun and easy! Kirsten has an amazing design sense and vision; her creativity, and breadth and depth of experience has kept us from making many design mistakes and has helped us create amazing spaces within our home. She is accessible, friendly, enthusiastic, encouraging, and realistic. Kirsten recently helped us give our kitchen a much needed face lift: refinishing existing cabinets, changing out the center island counter material, adding a gorgeous honed marble subway tile backsplash, selecting a beautiful dark gray paint color, and adding new cabinet hardware, lighting, window treatments, seeded glass inserts in cabinets, and a new table and chairs. Kirsten took time to understand our tastes and wants, and worked to satisfy those, while also challenging us when needed, making us aware of other options we did not even know existed, often pushing us slightly out of our comfort zone, all while being budget conscious. The end result is a kitchen that we LOVE in every way! Kirsten also helped us renovate our very dated laundry room, which also serves as a home office. It is the perfect space for us now, balancing beauty and function. Kirsten is currently helping us redecorate our basement. Special treatments like grass cloth and stone walls make the space warm and inviting. It seems with little effort, Kirsten pulls many different pieces together to make the perfect space.

**★★★★★ — mereldavis, April 2015**

> We hired Kirsten to help us make various selections while building a new house. She was instrumental and invaluable with suggestions and narrowing choices down for us. She is a decision maker and can see the big picture in order to pull together one room and an entire home from ground up! She is very knowledgable in all areas of design and I trust her 100%. She is excellent about helping to stay within a budget and accommodating your likes/dislikes. Kirsten is flexible, dependable and easy for anyone to get along with. She helped us design our bathrooms, kitchen, flooring, exterior (tile, cabinets, hardware, lighting, appliances, marble, paint colors), in addition to interior furnishings (rugs, furniture, artwork, window treatments). We are extremely happy with everything she has done for us and we continue to get multiple compliments by everyone when they visit our home. We will continue to use her services going forward and would highly recommend her! And most importantly, we had fun doing it :)

**★★★★★ — 424ags, April 2015**

> We have had the pleasure of working with Kirsten Kaplan on every room in our home. Our projects have included everything from refurnishing to remodeling…completely new and gorgeous kitchen and baths, custom family gathering areas, inviting guest entertaining spaces, energetic and fun teen havens, office space and a luxurious master bedroom retreat. Thanks to Kirsten’s energy, experience and design talent, each project is a stunning “10”.
>
> We Trust Kirsten. We have implicit trust in her character and design expertise.
>
> Kirsten has a unique, innate sense of people. She’s a great listener and problem solver with lots of patience, attentiveness and flexibility. She understands and has empathy for how stressful the design process can be at times – and works tirelessly to minimize it. We began some projects without a vision in mind. She guided us in developing and discovering the style that fits us perfectly. At times when my husband and I were at different ends of the requirements spectrum, she deftly recommended solutions that maintained the style without sacrificing functional requirements. For each space, her recommendations were on the mark for attaining the best value for our investment – and are absolutely gorgeous!
>
> Kirsten has the expertise, creativity and energy essential to all aspects of the design process - - - from her ability to transform visions into designs that meet budget, functionality and invariably exceed expectations to sourcing the very best and unique materials to making spot-on recommendations when we couldn’t land on a decision, to communicating with contractors, to choosing just the right shade for wall color down to adding the miniscule details that finish a room as only a professional could. We have had multiple renovations done while out of town and those vacations were 100% stress-free knowing Kirsten was at the helm with the keys to our house. Her attention to detail and follow-up throughout the whole design process is invaluable and evident in each decision and result.
>
> Trust comes easy with Kirsten’s attention and professional expertise.
>
> We thoroughly enjoy working with Kirsten as much as we enjoy the spaces she has helped us create!

**★★★★★ — andreaiobrien, April 2015**

> We have worked with Kirsten for over 8 years, on everything from choosing paint colors as an inexpensive way to freshen up a few rooms, to remodeling bathrooms on a budget, to furnishing a new beach house from top to bottom. Her attention to detail is impeccable, her taste exquisite, and her knowledge of suppliers vast. She completely "gets" our style and has great vision and suggestions, while also encouraging us to expand our repertoire and look at new options. Over the years, we have especially appreciated her respect for our budget, as she is always careful to manage our projects so that we make smart decisions with longevity and get the most bang for our buck. Some of the highest compliments that we receive about our décor is that it is clean and modern, while still being warm and welcoming--not an easy feat! We love working with Kirsten, and we recommend her and Haus Interior Design without hesitation!

**★★★★★ — JACK ROSEN CUSTOM KITCHENS, April 2015**

> We have worked with Haus Interior Design on many projects. Kirsten has a wonderful eye for detail and design. She is down to earth, friendly and a pleasure to work with. > Working with Kirsten Kaplan from Haus Interior Design, is always a pleasure. She knows and understands her clients needs and works efficiently with all trades. I have worked with her on both large and small projects, which include renovations, as well as new custom homes. Regardless of the project, the clients always know they are in good hands. And as a supplier, she couldn't be more delightful to work with!

**★★★★★ — dah721, March 2015**

> Kirsten Kaplan is a wonder to work with! Our house has a very open floor plan, which made decorating a challenge since no room is ever really out of view. Kirsten helped us with the total design-paint colors that go beautifully together and furnishings that are cohesive without being matchy-matchy. We love our house and are so thankful to Kirsten for making it feel like a home!

**★★★★★ — kmmh, March 2015**

> Haus Interior Design is amazing! Remodeling is a stressful process but Kirsten Kaplan kept us sane! Not only does she have an amazing eye for design detail, but she worked extremely well with our subcontractors making sure our remodel timeline and expectations were met. We did a full kitchen renovation and Kirsten was instrumental in helping us choose everything from the hardwood floors to the cabinet hardware. Not only was she able to find us some amazing grasscloth for a fabulous focal wall, she knew the right people to call for a flawless install. The result is one amazing kitchen!

  - Location: Washington, DC

  - Description: Empty nesters take on a new life and new home in Northwest DC. Downsizing has its monumental challenges, and that was definitely the case with this project. The clients wanted a very narrow, partially below-ground, and slightly sterile space to feel like home. Ralph Lauren was our inspiration - both the clients and I love rich plaids, warm textures and touches of leather mixed with interesting metals. Because the rowhouse is so narrow, we added an entire wall of navy blue built-ins to the living…

  - Location: Chevy Chase, MD

  - Description: These clients contacted us with a fun request: transfuse their brand new luxury home with a cool personality and soft urban vibe. Builders usually create spec homes without much sex appeal so that they appeal to the widest variety of buyers. But these clients never settle for bland, and they gave us free reign to bring their vision to life. We balanced industrial style with soft textures, custom upholstery, and interesting lighting. And believe it or not, the entire project was finished in 12 we…

  - Location: Potomac, MD
  - Photos: 6
  - Description: We faced some big challenges in designing this room! Before we started, everything was a shade of builder beige, including the fireplace stone. The cavernous space with tall ceilings wasn't intimate enough for small gatherings, and wasn't grounded enough for larger parties. It took a lot of courage for the client to agree to painting the walls a dark blue/gray, the fireplace stone a shade darker, and the window panes a very dark almost-black. The primary seating arrangement has room for 10 to si…

  - Description: This 1850s farmhouse in the country outside NY underwent a dramatic makeover! Dark wood molding was painted white, shiplap added to the walls, wheat-colored grasscloth installed, and carpets torn out to make way for natural stone and heart pine flooring. We based the palette on quintessential American colors: red, white, and navy. Rooms that had been dark were filled with light and became the backdrop for cozy fabrics, wool rugs, and a collection of art and curios. Photos by Stacy Zarin Goldberg…

  - Location: Chevy Chase, MD
  - Photos: 13
  - Description: These high school sweethearts searched their hometown for a house that would fit their active young family, ultimately deciding to tear an older house down to make way for a gracious, elegant home that will last for generations. The furnishings add a colorful vibrancy to neutral walls, lots of molding, and gorgeous wood floors. To save on the budget, we re-purposed some existing furniture by repainting and changing out hardware. The entry and dining room set the tone for a fun house where dogs a…

  - Location: Potomac, MD
  - Photos: 6
  - Description: We completely transformed a crowded tiny kitchen into a spacious, beautiful and functional space perfect for baking (and eating) treats! Before renovating, this bright and airy family kitchen was small, cramped and dark. The dining room was being used for spillover storage, and there was hardly room for two cooks in the kitchen. By knocking out the wall separating the two rooms, we created a large kitchen space with plenty of storage, space for cooking and baking, and a gathering table for kids…

  - Location: Bethesda, MD
  - Photos: 8
  - Description: Never a dull moment in a house with kids under the age of 3, but once preschool started this family wanted a more sophisticated living and dining room. Easily visible off the large entry hall, these rooms are tied together through the color palette of gray and turquoise. The spaces are fun and youthful (and kid-friendly) but still grown up enough for the adults to enjoy a night of entertaining. We used a mix of mid-century and tribal influences, a gray shag rug that hides stains, leather and Sun…

## Community Q&A

**Q: color of bottom cabinets?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Colo

A: Thanks for your question! It's a custom cabinet color from Elmwood, but we love Benjamin Moore dark coffee/charcoal options. Good luck with your project!

**Q: Mercury glass cabinet** *(in Photo Questions)*

Is the mercury glass portion of the cabinetry fixed or does it open for storage? Position of the pendant lights makes me think fixed.

A: Thanks for your question! It's a fixed panel. There's a chase behind those cabinetry panels that couldn't be moved so we created a deeper counterspace for rolling out dough and decorating baked goods:)

**Q: How was the mercury glass effect achieved?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I love the mercury glass look on the set of blue cabinets. Was that done by the manufacturer of the cabinets or a project done after purchase? It’s stunning!

A: We used Bel Pre Glassworks in Rockville, MD. They are wonderful!

**Q: Love the wallpaper what’s the name and where could I find it** *(in Photo Questions)*

What color is it

A: Thanks for your question! It's Serena and Lily, and you can find it on their website. Good luck with your project!

**Q: What color is the island? I love it!** *(in Photo Questions)*

What color blue is the island?

A: Thanks for your question; it's Polo Blue from Elmwood Cabinetry. We source through Jack Rosen Custom Kitchens in Rockville MD because they are amazing!

**Q: beautiful blue island** *(in Photo Questions)*

What is the color/brand of island ?

A: No, but if you show the picture to someone at your local Benjamin Moore store, they can provide a few suggestions.
