**Q: Pendants or Can lighting?** *(in Lighting)*

We are in the process of having the cabinet drop removed and also  the small  soffit to the left.  Now I am really undecided whether I should have pendant lighting or can lighting above my stove and the 2 small counter tops on the left and right. I have seen


pendants over Islands but not usually over stoves.  We are replacing the fluorescent lighting  above my sink and having 3 can lights in its place. The eating area have a ceiling and with a light and no other lighting will be added as we have plenty of light there. Thanks.

A: I would add a pendant to the left and to the right of the stove.

**Q: Should we convert 2 small BR's and small BA into a larger 1BR/BA space** *(in Remodeling)*

We don't know which way to go with this renovation.  We have a 2100 sq ft, 3 BR/2BA home.  We're about to renovate a small guest bathroom which is located between 2 small bedrooms, each of which has very small closet.  

We've been thinking of converting the 2 small bedrooms and bath into one bedroom with a larger closet and a bigger bathroom. (There is a master suite in the house with its own bath and walk-in closet.) But, I keep thinking of families with children who might need a 3 bedroom home; however, these 2 bedrooms are so small that they would be tight even for a child.

There is a large room upstairs that is a converted attic. We use it as an office, but it could be used as a bedroom; however, there is no bathroom upstairs.

What would be more desirable to a future buyer should we decide to sell? (1) Keep the 2 bedrooms as they are and update the bathroom or (2) Create one large room with a bigger bath and closet.

A: Converting to a 2 bedroom house would affect the resale value. Keep them.

**Q: Where to donate craft supplies** *(in Crafts & Decorations)*

I'm going through a cleanout project and getting rid of craft supplies for projects that I realize at this point will not happen. There's nothing too great in my stash but I'm still hoping to find a worthy place to donate it to (other than my trash can). Does anyone have any ideas?

A: I agree I would try churches for their camps and Sunday school programs, grade schools or your local thrift shop.

**Q: Decoupage** *(in Crafts & Decorations)*

Where do you find articles to decoupage? Any exciting ideas?  TIA

A: I am constantly decoupaging. My favorite product to use is Modpodge in a matte finish. I apply it with a foam sponge dipped directly into the jar. I have decoupaged on glass, wood, metal and even furniture. I just created a line of tree toppers this year using decoupage.

**Q: small living room, what to do with chairs and fabrics?** *(in Home Decorating)*

Hi everyone, I could really use some objective advice!  We downsized from a very large house, and now this is our main living area in a small "adult"  bungalow.  This living room is open to  the dining room on the left of the sofas, and has cathedral ceilings which give some sense of space, but it is only twelve feet wide.  I have already replaced the sofas with the condo-sized units you see here in white leather.  The blue chair on the right is a relatively new swivel rocker.  The two white chairs are over thirty years old and in great shape structurally, but soon need reupholstering.  The carpet is a Turkish Kayseri, and is in very good condition.

My issues are these:    

I want to have a sense of "light and airy", but I am concerned about wear and tear as this furniture is used all the time and we do have young grandchildren and a small dog.  I am torn between keeping the two matching chairs in a white-ish neutral fabric, or going for something like the blue and white pattern in the photo.  Something about that pattern draws me, and I think something like it kind of coordinates with the carpet.  Or maybe there is a better option?
Perhaps I could instead order another chair like the blue swivel to put on the other side of the fireplace?
Is the rug too much for the room?  I could perhaps find a place for it in a bedroom later on.  I am thinking that something with cream tones might suit, but the one in place has been amazingly resilient over the years to major cocktail parties, kids, dogs, etc. etc.  in its old home.
I am not very happy with the whole mantel wall, but I do not know what is wrong with it.  The wall colour is BM silver gray, and the darker colour around the gas insert is BM smokestack gray, which is also used as an accent colour on the far wall of the DR (not shown).  I am wondering if the whole mantel wall should be one or the other colour only, and it the mantel should be painted.
In the photos the TV is swiveled out so that we can watch it from the sofas, two of the chairs, or the kitchen (through the French doors on the right side behind the blue chair).  My husband likes to sit at the kitchen table and work on his laptop, while perhaps half-listening to a sports game or show on the TV...  From certain angles, the pulled-out TV does seem to lurk, but there really doesn't seem to be anywhere else to put the "necessary evil".

A: To  be honest. I love the addition of the white chairs in front of the fireplace but I do feel the room looks a little heavy on one side with the current arrangement. At least from what I can see from the angle in the picture. I would try putting the love seat and sofa back on the opposite walls but that's just me.

**Q: Can you paint grass cloth?** *(in Home Decorating)*

I have an accent wall of grass cloth wall paper.  We are doing some minor redecorating in that room (b/c we are doing a reno of our kitchen, the color scheme will change a bit in several rooms)
Can I paint it?  It's a rust color - and I want to go to a light cream
I love grass cloth - so I'd really like to keep the texture on that wall.  
I guess worst case scenario is that it doesn't look right and I'll just take it down and repaper with a lighter grass cloth.

A: Yes you can paint it. Removing wall paper can be a daunting task. Painting over it is a good solution especially if you love the texture. Paint can give it a whole new look.
