**★★★★★ — A P, May 2017**

> Travis designed our waterfront home in Yarmouth, Maine. Throughout the process, he was absolutely terrific to work with. We’d hire him again in a heartbeat. We started with several meetings to talk about general style, size, and specific features we wanted. His first task was to help us decide whether to build on the footprint of the existing home within 75’ of the shore or build back behind the 75’ line. Here, he helped us with general siting and overall budget considerations – sifting through zoning constraints and what he was hearing from us to return a few exterior sketches with corresponding rough layouts. This helped us decide to build on the footprint of the existing structure – and from there we worked from these originals over the course of eight weeks, with the final result being a set of construction documents and specifications that our builder used to price the home and proceed with the build.
>
> Throughout the process he was open to our ideas, conscientious of our budget, and willing to produce multiple options to address different design considerations. He was willing to hand off segments of the detail work to our builder to enable us to save money, but was always available for a consult or visit when we or our builder had questions. Travis is fun to be around, knowledgeable about building options and materials, consistently on time and followed through, doing what he said he’d do time and time again. The result is an absolutely gorgeous home that we will raise our family in – all delivered by our builder within 3% of our original budget and on exactly the timeframe estimated. If we ever have reason to build anything again, Travis will be our first and only call.

## Community Q&A

**Q: What are glass blocks called above doorways** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: We call them interior transom windows. The ones in the photo are three barn sashes from Brosco.

**Q: what type of windows and are they vinyl clad ? what color?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Marvin Integrity. Fiberglass, not vinyl.

**Q: Love the cabinet door hardware!** *(in Photo Questions)*

Do you have the details?

A: I believe they are from Cliffside Industries.

**Q: Window glass tint** *(in Photo Questions)*

Love your designs! Homes are gorgeous. Question about windows. Just had my Marvin Integrity Low-E3 windows delivered. Glass looks dark and greenish. Have you experienced this? Windows of this home appear dark, too. Thanks!

A: That is odd. Are you sure the color isn't being picked up by your surroundings? Most all window come with Low-E3 as the default. Check your specs and call the local Marvin rep. They are often more than willing to come to your house and talk with you. The only way to get a true historical clear look is to order single glazed (which is horrible insulation quality) and specify clear plate glass. People have ordered this before and it is super clear and the view from the exterior is pretty cool as you can't even see the glass, but condensation and heat loss will be an issue. Double pane insulated glass is tough to make perfectly transparent because you have two shiny surfaces about 1/2" apart reflecting against each other. Are you separation bars between the glass silver (raw metal) or bronze?

**Q: Header Height/ Bench Height** *(in Photo Questions)*

What is the bottom header height of the window? Assuming 9 ft. ceiling, 84"-86"? Also what is the bench height? Thanks!

A: The bench top is at 24". Standard chair height is 18". However, in a mudroom I like the bench taller because you don't necessarily want to sit so low when you are just putting on or taking off shoes. Makes it easier to sit and stand up. Top plate of wall is 9'

**Q: floor color** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Clear finish on white oak.
