Our home was build in 1920 and we wanted to incorporate the character of the home in the kitchen remodel. It was fantastic to work with Erin on this project because she easily understood the aesthetic we were looking for and was able to guide us in choosing materials. In addition, it was so helpful to have her expertise in designing the layout within the footprint of our old home to have the most efficient use of space possible. We also were able to find creative ways to stick to our budget and the project was delivered on time without any big surprises. She listened to my ideas and created the basic layout of the bathrooms. She changed the design numerous times for me in order to get the best use out of the available space, while making sure that the result would be beautiful! We moved walls and fixtures and created an ensuite bathroom out of a closet and part of an oversized bathroom next to it. She helped with each step and was sensitive to my tastes, while helping with decisions regarding tile, color and decor. I couldn't be happier with each bathroom, they even exceeded my vision for them thanks to ideas that Erin suggested, such as built-in shelves in areas, etc. I would recommend her! **★★ — pmac6050, Aug. 2016** > We contracted Erin Hoopes to renovate a small kitchen. Our first meeting went well and we found her to be knowledgeable. We were surprised by her high hourly rate (which includes driving time to you) and while we were hesitant to move forward based on that alone, our main designer was not available. After we paid Erin, which she insisted was mostly upfront, she basically disappeared. The next months were a continuous struggle to just get in contact with her. There were multiple points where the kitchen work could not continue because we were unable to get in touch. She made multiple mistakes ordering (of which we were very forgiving at first) but her attempts to fix the problem always lacked a sense of urgency. At one point, we contacted the cabinet maker directly to see where our order stood (it had yet to be placed!) weeks after she told us she had ordered them. Multiple unreturned phone calls and e-mails week after week became the norm. Eventually she would finally get back to us but it was too little too late. While the kitchen turned out nicely, the entire renovation was far more stressful than it needed to be and we were left disappointed by her. **Comment from Erin Hoopes:** > I apologize you were dissatisfied with your experience during my tenure as an independent designer. It was your project that pushed me to head back to a design build firm where I could control the client experience better. It is incorrect to say the funds were required entirely upfront. The first 2 appointments were free of charge then 10 design hours were purchased. You elected not to purchase project management services so the additional field questions and daily texts/emails to explain installation to your contractor were not contracted. Additionally only 50% was paid on the cabinetry to place the order which didn’t cover the cost of the order so to say you were charged up front is incorrect. My contract was with your parents not with you for the work in the condo you live in. I waved the added design/material fee for your parents as they were displeased with the contractor’s timeline. He refused to start the job until the cabinets had arrived while I timed the cabinets to arrive after the demo since this was a small condo and space was limited. In the end I spent 38 hours on this project and was only paid for 10 hours of design. I’m happy you’re pleased with the end design and just want to clarify with the houzz community the facts of the situation that transpired. > Sincerely, > Erin **★★★★★ — rg02, Jan. 2015** > Approximately two years after purchasing my condo, I was ready to totally redo my outdated kitchen. I got designs and prices from three highly rated contractor/designer companies in the area, including Moss. Full disclosure- my designer Erin is someone I knew personally, but that only served to get Moss's foot in the door. I found her designs to be the ones that most closely mirrored what I wanted out of the kitchen, and the price to be competitive with the other designers. I was also more impressed by Moss's presentation and description of how/when the work would be done; it felt more professional, with more information given out front. As this was my first big remodeling project in my home, I felt more comfortable with what they presented initially with the plans, the schedule, what to expect during construction etc; I just felt more prepared with Moss than the other two. > > After officially selecting Moss, I was very pleased with all facets of designing the kitchen, before work actually started. Both Erin and my PM Dave were very accommodating to my schedule, working with me on the best times for them to come measure and spec out my kitchen, as well as meeting me in their office and in the showcase warehouses to design the cabinets/layout, pick out counter-tops, backsplash, etc. Erin also was very helpful in other parts of the design such as emailing me links for sinks, faucets, and pendant lights, i.e. items to buy that didn't require a warehouse visit. There was no part of the design aspect that I didn't feel in control of; she gave me options for everything fit the aesthetics and budget of my kitchen (or advised me if what I liked was over), but never "told" me what I should order. A: roughly 9' in length. the width varies from 27" - 39" **Q: What is the countertop material and name?** *(in Photo Questions)* A: This was a Kashmir White but with natural stone you really need to go look at the slabs at a local supplier. Stone color changes/varies from lot to lot with a natural stone. I'd recommend taking a sample of your cabinetry and flooring with you to select the best option that's cohesive with the design.
