> Loved the help that Jasmina provided. She did listen and guide us with the amazing blinds that now we love. We got so many compliments. Our roller blinds have the automatic remote and we loved it. Thank you again!

**Comment from Shades of Home:**

> Thank you for the review. We do our very best with every client who trusts us with the window treatments.

> We purchased our window coverings for the main floor from Hilary at Shade of Home. She was very professional and it was easy to schedule an appointment with her. Quote and delivery time were timely. Hilary was very helpful with fabric selection and finalizing design details. The installers are fantastic - they even came by after installation for a minor adjustment. I would recommend Shades of Home to others.

**Comment from Shades of Home:**

> We recently move into our new condo and the blinds in it were outdated so we wanted to replace them ASAP and we wanted something that looked super clean and modern to match the design we have in our place.
> Jasmina helped us pick the best blinds for us and for our budget, great service from buying the blinds to getting them installed, i highly recommend shades of home.

> Went to the Oakville location today. Experience was not so good. The specialist came and briefly walked us through the different types of shades, shutter. Then she asked where our house is located and after we told her, she commented that she found people living in that area tend to go for cheaper places. She then emphasized that they have higher price. Made us felt really uncomfortable! Would definitely not go or recommend this place. We asked if there is free consultation and free design like the website advertised and she said no free design, comes with additional cost ..... honestly if you are gonna pick your customers, just specify on your website, such a waste of our time!

**Comment from Shades of Home:**

> Dear Randy
>
> I apologize as owner and on behalf of the designer who was working in my Oakville showroom on Saturday. She should have handled your request differently. I've spoken to her and she has apologized to me and asked me to pass along her sincere apologies in reply to your well documented note about your brief interaction. She should have passed your request along to me or another designer who has the time to meet with you in your home.
>
> If would contact me directly I would be more than happy to visit you in your new home and offer my services at no charge.

> We are extremely happy with the selection, purchase experience, installation and follow-up of our vinyl shutters from Shades of Home. Sales staff assisted in our decision making and made a home visit prior to our purchase to ensure that the shutters were exactly what we wanted. The installers pre-booked both measurement and installation dates based on our preferences and were on time, courteous and very professional both times. It took only 3 weeks for the shutters to be built and installed and the workmanship is excellent with all shutters fitting cleanly in our windows. The vinyl shutters are easy to clean and have a nice neat clean look to them. Sales staff also followed up a few weeks after installation to ensure that we were satisfied and that no further work remained. We felt that the price was very reasonable and competitive, with the total $s split over 2 payments. I would have no hesitation recommending Shades of Home for similar purchases.

**Comment from Shades of Home:**

> Thanks for the kind words. Marie enjoyed working with you to provide the shutters for your home. If there's anything we can do for you, your friends and neighbors - let us know.
> Thanks

> From start to finish, Marie was excellent. She was considerate, timely with the project and called back always within a short period of time. She came to my house in between decisions to answer questions and go over our decisions if I was second guessing anything. She made changes as well as advising me in areas where I didn't need to spend 'more' money. Once I was ready to place my order, she was also able to throw in a couple of blinds for windows that weren't quoted on (complimentary). Timing was as quoted. I highly recommend Marie and her company!

> Excellent job, very professional. This is the second time I have used Shades of Home. Would highly recommend! Windows look amazing!!

> I was in the market for window coverings for my new custom built home. After calling several companies to come out and give me quotes and ideas, ades of Home (Marie) was the only one that offered to come by the house and walk through and take measurements personally first. The others wanted me to either come by the showroom for to take measurements myself first. As a result I went with Shades of Home for my project. Marie was professional, knowledgeable and provided me with many suggestions. She helped me pick out beautiful fabrics for the bedrooms, media room, office and laundry room, and roman shades for my kitchen. For the family room and other kitchen windows Marie recommended roller shades. For the bathrooms, horizontal sheers were installed for a soft look. Installation was quick and efficient and they came on the scheduled date given. I am pleased with the end result and the service Shades of Home provided. I would recommend them to anyone.

> I spent many months, earlier this year, searching for drapery for my new apartment. While I didn't want to re-invent the old pinch pleat drapes my Mom had in the 1980's I really do not like the current style (which seems to be everywhere) of grommet or rod pocket panels.
>
> I was determined not to give up and was so happy when I found Shades of Home's website. As soon as I saw their photos of the ripple fold drapes I knew I had to go and see them. Made an appointment and visited their shop on Caledonia Road. Met with Marie and she helped me select the perfect fabric for both my living room and bedroom. Marie also set up a time to meet me so she could take custom measurements. I was impressed because it's an older building an to say that each room had a few irregularities would be an understatement. Marie told me not to worry... and she was right.
>
> My drapes were delivered on the date promised and the installers were terrific. I am so glad that I took my time and even happier that I was able to work with Shades of Home. Great service... superb quality... highly recommend.

**Comment from Shades of Home:**

> Hello Sharon

Marie is amazing to work with and really knows what she is doing. She is extremely professional, patient, and insightful when it comes to different trends and style options. We highly recommend Marie of Shades of Home (Oakville) to anyone looking to get custom window treatments for their home.

> Thanks Marie for the wonderful job and the amazing color selection. Was a pleasure working with you.

 - Description: Client was looking to warm the space that had existing california shutters. Client was redecorating and looking to add some finishing touches to her space. ## Community Q&A

**Q: better Hollywood** *(in Photo Questions)*

What’s name of fabric

A: Silhouette originals daises white

**Q: suggestions for working with a high window** *(in Design Dilemma)*

In our bedroom we have a dormer window which is quite high up. It is a sensible sized window but the sill starts at about chest height and underneath there is a radiator. I am looking for suggestions of how I can disguise the radiator or if I should just leave it. I have bought floor length curtains and am going for French country style in the bedroom

A: You have a great view! I wouldn't consider drapery in such a small space. If all you are looking for is to 'sleep-in' and you need blackout, I would suggest a blackout honeycomb shade. You can mount them within the opening and have a valance made that would cover the shade (out of sight - out of mind)
There are some very nice fabrics out there for you to create a french-country look and still keep the space clean - bright and airy.
Good luck!

**Q: Need help, which is better Norman Woodlore or Woodlore Plus shutter?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Sliding door is 947/8 wide 93 1/4 height

A: I would not recommend shutters in that patio door. They will do nothing to enhance the space, a space I'm certain is rather 'echoey'. The shutters will only amplify that.
I would recommend adding drapery, mounting 8-12 inches above the trim - as much as necessary to add height to the room and detract from the flatness of the wall above. Go 18" past on either side to add even more drama.
But Shutters...??? Shutters are great for bedrooms, laundry rooms and bathrooms. Other treatments are better in public spaces.

You might want to consider - if you are minimalist - a banded shade/zebra shade/highlite shade. You can power the upper window and go manual on the lower. This is an example of an installation of the suggested shades on the main floor of a condominium facing Lake Ontario in Burlington, Ontario, Canada.
Good luck!

**Q: What kind of window covering??** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Need help guys.. sun comes in this sliding door every afternoon, so we need a covering. Would you do a curtain? Vertical blind? Horizontal blind? Or what?? It has to be outside mount because there's no room inside the casing. Any advice greatly appreciated!!!

A: My Experience:
Solar Shades (with either a 3" Fascia or Cassette) mounted on the trim. The shade will then drop close to the glass without taking up interior room.
I see you have a soon to be mobile little one - SAFETY should be a concern. You may want to consider a Hunter Douglas Roller Shade with the UltraGlide control. This keeps the cords away from little ones without having to add a 'safety hold-down' on the chains from other manufacturers.
Ask you dealer about the 'Images' collection. The prices are better for a standard 3% sunscreen roller shade.
Also easy to clean with little fingers - jam - peanut butter etc. etc.
Good Luck

**Q: Dining room rug and decor help!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We recently started renovating our new home and slowly decorating. I had such a hard time finding a carpet that I gave up and moved onto curtains which probably wasn't the best idea! Do you think the curtains are too busy with our light fixture? Any area rug recommendations? All the grayish ones I've tried haven't been true in color and clashed. Our walls are Benjamin Moore stonington gray with white chair molding.

We really need a rug. Any help with a rug would be great and any suggestions on a table centerpiece, artwork or new dining room chairs would be greatly appreciated.

A: Rod Pocket Sheers are too casual for the space and the pattern detracts from the lighting fixture. I'd splurge on some solid organic textured side panels with a modern header style (Ripple-fold?), get rid of the 2" blinds and replace with a silhouette or transitional shade for function.

**Q: Curtain help** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi! The pic is my current bedroom. I'm ordering the yellow/black curtains and will have a white duvet cover and gray walls. What's the best way to hang the curtains? I can only use 1 panel per window since the bed comes over too far. And I would like for them the hang straight, not tied back like my current ones. Should I still use a long curtain rod or use one of the short ones that only goes over the one side of the window?

A: Definitely have the hardware mounted 6-8 inches above the frame. It'll add height to the room. Don't know what length or style of drape, but with the bed intruding into the window you really have no other choice but to have tie backs as you go now.
You could always purchase a functioning window treatment that doesn't interfere with the drapes - blackout honeycomb shade
