## Community Q&A

**Q: What brand is the hood?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I love the range hood, what is the brand?

A: This is a Vent-a-hood white chimney style wall mounted range hood. It also has side and back panels below. The combination looks quite vintage. Because a chimney was behind, we decided to have fun and stay quirky (like vintage homes often do). We employed an elbow vent above, instead of a modern perfectly straight seamless shaft.

A: Total porch depth is about 9'-6", which means about 8'-6" to inside of railing. This depth allows for a nice seating arrangement or even a table and chairs. Anything less than 6' feels odd and unusable.

**Q: Ceiling** *(in Photo Questions)*

Is that 1x6 bead board?

A: These are 1x6 "V" groove boards. Bead board is nice, but often looks too narrow and fussy. It is also strongly associated with Victorian architecture. In contrast, the 1x6 "V" groove makes a porch feel more elegant. And while traditional, this product isn't pigeon holed into one specific style.

What are the dimensions of this island, and kitchen?? Love the lay out.

A: This wide island is 6'-6" x 8'-0". The kitchen is approx. 24'-6" x 20'-0" including the kitchen and and adjacent lounging area with couch and fireplace. 

A reasonable island can be 3'-0" wide. But these narrower islands require sitting all in one direction. If space allows, a 4'-0" or wider island makes for a nicer arrangement. Wide islands allow those sitting to face each other as if sitting at a table. Better for talking and family time. The sink is opposite the range and in the island. And the island top is all one height (instead of raised counter). So someone preparing food is also part of the conversation.

**Q: I'm curious about the flooring material of this porch? Is it wood?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: This porch flooring is tile planks over a concrete slab. They kind of look like wood, but they are tiles. Several companies make this type of product (usually in Italy). www.atlasconcorde.it/en/collections/axi is one such maker. If a porch isn't raised off the ground very far, wood planks can easily rot. So an all masonry/tile plank installation is more durable.

What is the brand and name of the yellow paint?

A: Sorry I don't know, the clients chose the colors themselves with the help of a color consultant. They did a wonderful job. I've had clients use the Color People (see Find a Pro) with great success. I'm sure they can help get just the right colors for your project.
