It's Pietra Art Woodland tile, a combo of glass tile, polished marble, unpolished stone and stainless steel. Many of the polished marble pieces are completely cracked in half. The contractor claims that is 'acceptable' and it took a lot of work to get him to agree to replace them. See picture. Would love feedback - this is my first ever renovation and I'm anxious for everything to be perfect but I also want to be reasonable. A: what would he say if you wrote him a check when you were broke. **Q: Need help coordinating a kitchen backsplash** *(in Design Dilemma)* We just bought our first home and would like to add a kitchen backsplash. The cabinets are dark, as are the counter tops, so we were thinking of using a light backsplash that would contrast enough with the wall to the side to be noticeable and bring out the cream colored tile of the floor. Originally we were thinking of also having an accent strip of a darker design that contrasted the overall light tiling, but looking at the picture I'm wondering if that might be a bad idea since the cabinets are not raised. Would an accent strip make it feel cramped? Any design ideas are appreciated... most everything in Google seems to pair a light counter top with a dark cabinets, so I'm at a loss. Need to get new appliances and limited choice here in small island. I hate the high backs on white stoves and love the look of stainless...However..seems like white in the back would continue the look of the white background wall and make kitchen appear bigger. Also white fridge is in keeping with white wall. Do I do stainless or stick with white? Boy those high back stoves look tacky. They could at least build spice racks in them. I'm trying to decide whether to use the bench at the end of the bed as I always have or to use the sofa. I have no other place in our new house to use the sofa. A: the one in the picture **Q: Transom window treatment** *(in Design Dilemma)* Here is the other picture, a more full picture of the window in my husband's office. A: A plantation shutter would be stunning and you could do away with the oversized drapes. You could do the arch and three windows to match. Not only would it be better for a office it wolud have a more masculine feel and allow for better light control. If it is cost prohibitive, your next option could be a cellular/honeycomb shade.
