> I had an old garage and didn't used it at all and I decided to remodel it. I already seen work from DTA Construction at my cousin home and it was excellent so I called them. They gave me fair estimate and I liked how they described future project so I hired them. The work started on time and finished on time. The outcome was excellent, I am very satisfied with quality of job they did. Highly recommend DTA to everyone!

> We hired DTA for our basement remodel. From first day I knew they are responsible and honest. I really liked how they made a project easy and simple although it wasn't at all. They were some unexpected issues but nothing serious and they resolved it. Our basement was finished before estimate time and within estimate price. And most important we really like our new basement!!

> Glad we hired DTA Green Construction when we needed a kitchen remodel this past Spring. We were getting ready to put my grandmother's house on the market and our realtor suggested we update the outdated old kitchen. The owner, Tomer helped us redesign the kitchen and helped us select appliances, select colors and gave the space a new larger, brighter look. The house sold right away and all potential buyers gave great feedback commenting on how great the kitchen was. We will rehire DTA Green Construction in the future.

**★★★★★ — Cher Paolina, Aug. 2018**

> Tomer was wonderful to work with. I explained exactly what I wanted in my remodel and he was able to execute it perfectly. So wonderful to see my vision come to reality. Now I love being in my kitchen again, cooking is no longer a chore when you have such an incredible environment to create in! He was fair in price and his work was exquisite. I will definitely use him again and recommend to anyone looking for a contractor.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Need affordable DIY ideas for curb appeal** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi there! We recently moved in and the front of house is just awful. Colorful plants would be the most obvious choice, but we get a lot of deers and most would not stand a chance. What you see here is what the deers won't eat; however, when they get hungry enough they do nimble on the plants. We also get a lot of chipmunks and rabbits.

What are some affordable DIY ideas that could be completed in one weekend? Looking for ideas that you've done yourself and is maintenance free. Not opposed to "planting" artificial shrubs/flowers or easy-to-install hardscape. Thank you for your help!

A: Where are you located? if you have a Sunset Guide Garden book, it will tell you what you can plant in your zone. If not too cold and rainy, I'd suggest succulent garden.

**Q: Advice to Update a (Not Bad) 2006 Kitchen** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We bought this house last year, and, as you can see, the kitchen is pretty, but was renovated 12 years ago. What would you do to bring it up to 2018 and beyond? Given that it has nice shaker cabinets and granite countertops, I don't want to rip everything out and start over. My style leans toward modern/Scandinavian. My current thoughts are keeping the cabinets wood (but maybe sanding and refinishing to lighten up), lighter back splash, and modern cabinet hardware. Another possibility is lighter stone countertops (and if we did that would consider making that two level peninsula one level). All we have done so far is to paint the kitchen a more neutral "greige" (Revere Pewter). This is a listing photo.

A: If you do anything at all, I would get some nice hardware on the cabinets as they need some pulls. The back splash is making it all seem smaller than it probably is and very heavy and outdated. Maybe something for the windows. I feel the wall color isn't working at all with the cabinets I'm seeing green tinge walls and warmish orange finished cabinets on my screen.

**Q: Not sure what color flooring to choose...** *(in Home Decorating)*

Hi All,
I am at the final stage of my remodel and try to pick either a neutral wood color, or one that has grey tones in it. I would like it to flow with the bathroom, ebony wall, and stone wall. Im stuck... Thoughts?

Thoughts??

A: First off, your home location seems gorgeous. Looking out that window is really nice. Are you even remotely coastal? I'd stay away from the beachwood/grey one because it too trendy. You will not want it in a year. Love the other choices.

**Q: Mirror & backsplash advice for renovated half-bath please!** *(in Remodeling)*

Hi all! We’ve nearly completed our half-bath renovation. But I just can’t seem to pick a mirror! And not sure what backsplash tile to choose. I’d love some advice & ideas!

For the mirror, I was originally thinking large rectangle (28x36) with brushed nickel frame or mirrored frame. Now I’m thinking a brown or black frame might be nice and add some contrast up the wall. Also, what about round??

For the backsplash, I want to keep it simple or solid to not compete with granite. I also think we might just tile the backsplash, not side...is that ok? And I love mother of pearl so considering that. Thoughts? Also, how high should we go with backsplash? Would 6-8” be ok? Mirror could go right up to it?

Any & all advice or ideas would be very much appreciated. Thank you!! Here are some photos. Note we haven’t installed baseboards or cabinet pulls yet.

A: Love the mother of pearl for a black splash. I don't personally like matchy matchy so I like your decision to not also make it the same granite. How large of a space do you have for the mirror?

**Q: Which counter and backsplash still can not decide?** *(in Home Decorating)*

1.Taj Mahal counters stone back splash simply white cabinets with brass hardware. Floor white oak.
2\. Bianco Carrarra counters, bianco carrara back splash , simply white cabinets, brass hardware, white oak hardwood.
3\. Silstone eternal statuario counters, bianco marble tile back splash , simply white cabinets and island BM silver chain, brass hardware , white oak hardwood.

I just can not decide . I am having the floor installed today! However the cabinets countertops back splash hardware are still to be decided. If you have other suggestions please advise. I love modern french country, I like elegant looking kitchens. I like the stone in number 1 as think it looks french but my husband thinks it looks like the 1980's. I worrry that number 2 is too grey and number 3 will look washed out and sterile.Thank you in advance.

A: I feel that \#2 is too matchy. The counters and the backsplash together have no contrast at all. I cannot see this being really a beautiful kitchen. I do like \#1 but I love natural stone. \#3 will probably be the one that can go through several trends without ever looking outdated.

**Q: Chairs in front of fireplace or not?** *(in Home Decorating)*

I love the look of chairs in front of the fireplace but am just unsure about this layout in this particular room. Which looks better: chairs in front of fireplace or chairs against the side wall?

Edit: chairs are not going to be used for functionality, so this is a question of which layout looks better

A: I think it looks best without but one just on the right might look nice with a taller plant on the hallway side in a beautiful pot. Doesn't need to be symetrical as the space doesn't feel formal anyway.
