My husband and I love the distressed / vintage look of rugs. We bought a rug, size 6x9, from West Elm (style Rococo) seen in the first two pictures. This obviously was too small. Then we decided to upscale and look for a rug that was 10x14 from Restoration Hardware, since the West Elm rugs do not come in that larger size. https://www.restorationhardware.com/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=prod2940836&categoryId=cat2990086 We just purchased the Arte rug in color 'charcoal/charcoal', but now we are having second thoughts i.e. it's too dark and maybe we needed some pop of color like the existing small Rococo rug. We like blues, but I thought maybe we needed a muted color which is how I ended up with the Arte rug. After photoshopping the rug into the 3rd photo, we are having doubts. Please, if you can make any recommendations, we would be very grateful. Notes: Sofa size is 113 x 113 x 38 style Metro from Room and Board 2 Ford Swivel Chairs in 'Lecco Smoke' from Room and Board Our style is Midcentury, (not too) Modern, and Scandinavian. A: Well I have some good news and some good news. The first good news is you have neutral colors going on with both the sofa / love seat and the 2 accent chairs. The other good news is you can go in about 4 different directions with your color choices. The easy way is settle on one strong color. My suggestion is solid cerulean blue, yellow, or green throw pillows. Neutral, black, gray, beige, or white the pillows will pop. They all don't have to be solid, try patterns pillows. As for the area rug go online to Overstock.com They have thousands of area rugs to choose from. Which ever carpet you choose make sure it falls in line with your throw pillow choices and you can live with it for 3-5 yrs. Your wall color should be neutral. I'd try shopping for a contemporary landscape or abstract on Overstock also. Don't forget a nice large elephant ear plant in the corner. Hope this helps. Same tabletop & chairs as in the pictures attached. The wall color is Benjamin Moore OC-40. The size of room is 14" x 14". \- Artwork: would go over credenza in picture attached, which is 88" wide. \- Rug: We have two boys <4 years old so we want to get a rug that can clean easily. We also were wondering if there is a way to bring color into the room without taking away from the set. We were debating between 8x10 and 9x12. 9x12 seems to give enough room to pull out chairs comfortably on top of rug. Any suggestions? A: Words of advice. What ever you purchase area rug, or artwork. Make sure you can live with it for the next 3-5yrs. I collect art, and some I regret buying because after a while I get tired of looking at it. If it doesn't have your favorite colors, and you purchase it because it goes good with the dinning table or carpet the feeling gets old fast. Thank you so much for any help you can offer! A: The ottoman can be dark gray, light beige , or even dark blue. Make sure whatever accent chairs you pick, stays with the same color theme. Neutral sofa colors like gray, black , beige, or white matches any color. I usually use large ottomans in all my home staging décor. This makes the setting more relaxed. You can set any tray on a strong ottoman. Imagine yourself kicking your feet up on and ottoman vs a hard coffee table. I'm an artist and a home stager, and I usually go with light airy colors and spaces. I'd go with cerulean blue pillows, or yellow. Ross or Ikea are great places to shop for throw pillows and accent chairs. What ever art, chairs , or pillows you purchase make sure you can live with the design for the next 5 yrs. Date lots of women, Don't rush to get married because your friends are doing it. Marriage is not as fun as it seems. Sometimes it's like prisons, you'll be on lockdown off and on forever how long. A: After 5 yrs hanging out on online dating sites I did find that special someone. One thing I can say about the online dating, you get to see the person and chat back and forth. But always keep your antennas up for gold diggers, and the baby mama drama women. You know the Maury Povich show types. **Q: home staging project** *(in Design Dilemma)* where do I rent furniture for my staging projects? A: The best thing to do when you you're starting out as a home stager is to purchase your own furniture and accessories. You'll lose money through renting home staging accessories. You'll need at lease 10-$15,000 for your staging inventory. Make sure when buying your furniture and accessories, that you can use the items again. So buy neutral colored furniture. Try buying from Craigslist, Ross, Tuesday Morning, Home Goods, Big Lots, Pier 1. Make sure you have a good contract, that states no refunds clearly. Get a 50% deposit before starting.
