We noticed a significant dip in our 10 X 16 deck and were concerned about it being safe to walk on. Canty Brothers came out within a few days, checked out the deck, and confirmed that it was unsafe. THE NEXT DAY they sent two guys out who took the stairs off, repaired the rotted wood, and put it all back together again. The decking was 11 year old Trex-like material, and they were able to save it all, so and put it back together. Brian and Joe were out there all day in the 90 degree humidity, and just kept working. We supplied cold water and offered to have them eat lunch in our air-conditioned home, but they ate quickly in their truck and got back to work. Never did I imagine the job could be started and finished in one day, nor did we think we could get it done so quickly. High-quality work, workers who communicated well with us and were nice to have around. They worked very efficiently, meeting all deadlines, and I could not have asked for a better end product. They converted the Watertown Registry of Motor Vehicles into an absolutely stunning, brand new dance school. They constructed four large dance rooms, a large waiting and retail area, four bathrooms, four dressing rooms, a staff break room, an office, and two large storage closets. I highly recommend them for their impeccable work, strong work ethic, and professionalism. I interviewed 4 contractors to put on a first floor addition with full basement foundation (to extend existing kitchen/dining area), renovate an attic into second story living space by adding a shed dormer and 5 gable dormers, and bring the elecrical/plumbing/heat/air conditioning/insulation - essentially updating everything in the home to bring it up to code for the purpose of renting. The new addition included a complete new kitchen and full bath. The upstairs renovation created two bedrooms and two full bathrooms. I liked John Canty's input into my vision, concern to stay in budget, and most of all his confidence in his team so I hired Canty Brothers. This job was enormous. We encountered many problems .... asbestos in the furnace, the main beam of the home was eaten by termites and needed replacement, the plans my architect drew up needed revising..... just to name a few. We broke ground in November 2018 and it was complete by early August 2019. (most of it was done by the end of May). I absolutely loved John's team (Kevin, Tracy, Adam, Julio and many more - all were professional, kind, responsive, hard working and knowledgeable (in fact I miss them!). If I had a question/concern, I got an immediate response/resolve. John had the lowest bid on the project but he is not cheap. He approached spending my money as he would his own- very wisely and budgeted where he could to save me money on things that mattered to me least. In this business you get what you pay for, and if you want it done right and to your liking, you should definitely hire Canty Brothers. I will never use another contractor. He is simply the best there is out there. I got exactly what I asked for and paid just under half a million (about $80k over budget due to issues not in Canty Brothers control and my expensive taste in all of the masonry used) - but the value created in this investment by having it done right far exceeded the cost. It’s a 5 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom colonial built on approximately one-third of an acre lot and everyone who sees it remarks that it is absolutely beautiful! > > It would be easy to say that the home was an extraordinary value, but that description doesn’t quite do it justice and could give the false impression that the house isn’t top notch. The fact of the matter is that the house could have been priced 15% higher and it would still feel like a steal! It is that amazing! > > The house is absolutely luxurious - it has huge bedrooms, an oversized kitchen with state-of-the-art appliances, a spacious 2-car garage, a large backyard deck, and a farmer’s porch. Well, John Canty and his crew proved us wrong. We found Canty Brothers here in Angie's list and a number of other contractors. We met with John and we talked about our plans to buy a fixer-upper. > > We started by looking at old houses and John was kind enough to come with us to look at a couple of houses. Mind you that we were not under contract at that time and he just went out of his way to make sure that we pick a feasible project. None of the houses made sense to buy and fix so we ended up buying a vacant lot and we built a house from scratch. > > We did not have a hefty budget but John worked with it to give us the house that we wanted. His budgeting is spot on. We went a little over our budget but that was completely our decision with the upgrades in our selections. If an allowance comes in at a lower cost, they will inform you about it and will use the money in other areas in the house. Whenever we are spending too much money on something or whenever we want something that we can't afford, he will bring us back to our senses. He just wants you to enjoy the house and not be house-poor in the end and we appreciate that very much. > > My wife and I both work 8-5 shifts so we were not able to come to the site as often as we would like. We will just drop by in the evening to check on the progress when everyone is already gone. We did not have issues with John's crew and the Sub-contractors. We trusted that they will take care of everything and we were not disappointed. > > I know that Sub-cons can be a pain sometimes but John and Tracy made sure that the kinks were fixed. There was one instance where John did not like how the HVAC unit in the attic was laid out so he asked the sub-cons to redo it and push it further to make the attic more functional. These are things that you won't see or use often but I think attention to those kind of detail tells you what kind of company John runs. > > Towards the end of the project, we had a huge issue with our sewer. John made a ton of effort driving to meetings and meeting with people in an effort to convince the town to not dig the street. We ended up losing that battle but we appreciate all the effort. You will not get this effort from 95% of the contractors out there. > > This project was not at all problem-free but we were able to iron out the issues and in the end, both sides were satisfied. It was a very long journey. If we were to do it again, there is no question that we will call John to build our next house.
