## Community Q&A

**Q: Help pairing kitchen island and dining light fixtures** *(in Lighting)*

Hi all,

We’re building a house with an open floor plan (kitchen/living/dining area) and we have a general idea of what to do for our over island pendant lights (see pics of our top choices), but I don’t know what to do for over our dining table. I would like them to compliment each other, but not to be exactly the same. I would love to see your ideas. Thanks in advance!

A: What is the shape and size of the table and where will it be in relation to the kitchen area? I think a black wrought iron looking light would look nice but would need more details before I could send suggestions.

**Q: GUEST BATHROOM DIY HELP!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

This bathroom needed a revamp but struggling to design it with tile. I plan to resurface the vanity in all white. Wall color will be a light beige and door will be urbane bronze (SW).
Would you paint the doorframe the same color?
The drywall was poorly installed but don’t want to replace at this time (will maybe try and clean it up a bit more before painting).
For tile-would you use black tile or grey ish silver tiles? This will be for the wall that is left of the vanity and on the right side of the vanity! Thank you so much!!

A: I never suggest wallpapering in rooms with showers...wallpaper is an investment and in a few years the wallpaper will start to peel with the humidity from the shower even in the best ventilated spaces

**Q: Narrow Cape Living Room** *(in Home Decorating)*

We have a classic cape long narrow living room and would love any help in coming up with a furniture plan. We are planning to buy new furniture but need to keep it on a budget. We already removed the not-actually-built-in bookcase.
The primary use of this space will be for us (2 adults, 2 small dogs) to watch TV or read by the fireplace. Ideally we’d like space for “feet up” TV watching and perhaps separate reading chairs. We also enjoy having a hard top coffee table for snacks activities etc, but I know we don’t really have room for both that and comfy foot rests
Visitors all hang out in our kitchen, which has a comfy sitting area, so this is really just a family space.
We have radiators under the windows so can’t really put furniture under there. We’d really rather not put the TV in front of the windows. We tried the TV above the fireplace and hovering the couch in the middle of the room, and it was “ok” - we thought about replacing the mantle with something shorter to make this nicer?

A: Elle - I think as long as you don't make the shelves really deep it would be fine (which is why having someone do custom built ins that you can tailor a good idea). See the links below for some built in/fireplace inspiration I found -

**Q: need help with a chandelier** *(in Home Decorating)*

We need a new chandelier in our dining room and after looking many months I fell in love with a black and gold one. Trouble is our current area rug is dark blue with some light blue in it. Can I put these together?

A: I would need to see pictures to give you an opinion. Feel free to reach out or update this post with pictures and I am happy to help.
