The project was a total nightmare! It is normal for a construction project to go over budget by 10 or even 20 percent. I had just finished a 1M project in Washington DC. This was close to 100% over budget. Out of the excess 300,000+ maybe $60,000 were upgrades, the rest were weekly charges that had no rhyme or reason. In the middle of the project when it didn't resemble what it had been or what it would be I ran out of money and got approved for a construction loan by Wells Fargo, only to learn that one of the provisions in their contract is that they don't work with banks. A builder that doesn't work with banks, are you serious? I had to get a 250K personal loan! The basement unit was the most awful apt I have ever seen, thanks to their soffits protruding like arrows + it was dark. Thankfully (!!!)
