The setting was tranquil and featured patios, decks and an entry courtyard, the outdoor space included a waterfall and koie fish pond. The long standing gardener assured me that nothing would grow in this setting, amidst tall Monterey Pines and juniper bushes. When I met Jude and Laura from Outer Space Landscape Architecture I knew that they saw the potential of my property, and worked closely with me to achieve a design plan that preserved the serenity and beauty but elevated the opportunities for enjoying the beauty and entertaining options. The whole design process was terrific, I loved looking at their drawings, materials, and their collaborative spirit. It was more than fun, it was exciting - we worked on budget, met different contractors, before choosing the company to implement the plan. Suddenly I had a lighting and hillside/patio drainage system where there was none before. I had ideas from a trip to Japan that they integrated. We took down trees that blocked the light or were ugly, planted more Japanese Maples. Flowers, vegetables, two strawberry patches and an herb garden are just outside my kitchen. As each season changes the colors and plants blooming, I am immersed in the ongoing visual and sensory pleasure that my indoor/outdoor home delivers. I consider our soon-to-be finished project an artistic masterpiece, as the team was able to see past the mess and put together a plan that reflected our wish list, preferences for aesthetic, as well as some extras like a a gas fire pit and built-in lighting at Jude's suggestion which really brought the "wow" factor into the finished product (and which to my pleasant surprise did not cost as much as I would have thought!). She also recognized early on that we would benefit from a land survey and gave us the right referral to get the job done at a reasonable price - this ended up saving us a lot of money in the long run, so that we didn't waste money on a plan that would have been abandoned later on. Jude also provided a list of suggested contractors, and we've absolutely been thrilled with the work they have done. Every guest who enters our house remarks on the garden and the stunning, tall white sculptures she nestled artfully among the trees.
