> I am so pleased that I had the opportunity to work with Linda! She took the stress out of planning and designing my living room. She understood exactly what we wanted and did an excellent job balancing my needs with my husband's needs. She was extremely professional; quick to respond to emails, patient and offered honest advice. We worked together via e-design and I would absolutely do e-design with Linda again! The process was really easy and it was exciting to receive the emails with our design updates. We love our final design!

> I worked with Linda on an interior design project for my new home. Linda developed a design plan for my living area, dining, office, and kitchen. She worked with me to select drapery fabric for all of those rooms, as well as rugs and other accessories. Linda facilitated the custom design of the draperies with her workroom and the process was easy and fun. Linda is a delight to work with and was very patient with me (as I changed my mind a few times along the way!) I am thrilled with how my rooms came out and I highly recommend Linda to anyone looking to have their home "come to life".

> Because of my own inexperience with interior designers, I was nervous about working with one for fear she would impose her own style on me. My fears were unfounded. It was a pleasure working with Linda from start to finish. She listened carefully and expertly drew on my family's style and preferences to create a house full of beautiful window treatments that make me smile every time I walk in the door. She and her workers communicated thoroughly and respectfully and took great care to ensure that everything was perfect. I hired her for an additional window treatment later, and absolutely would hire her again.

> I loved working with Linda as the interior designer for my formal living room, media room, family room and bedrooms. She is very innovative and resourceful with finding just the right furniture, fabric and accessories. Linda’s use of technology is also exceptional. She developed project viewing pages on her web-site for each room so I could easily make decisions from home or out of town.

> Linda Merrill helped us to reconfigure and newly furnish our North Truro beach house on Cape Cod Bay. On the open floor plan main level, Linda suggested reconfiguring where the former owners had the living, dining, and other seaing areas. She also suggeseted optimal placement of the big-screen TV, which she recommended should go over the fireplace. When we opted to substitute wood flooring for carpeted bedrooms and hallways on the main and lower levels, Linda helped us select precisely the right color to hide sand yet convey the feeling of a beach house. Then she sent us detailed computer renderings of the specific area rugs, sofas, chairs, tables, lamps, etc. that should go in every room. She has great taste and style. Overall, she is to very professional and a joy to work with.

> We had the extreme privilege and pleasure of working with Linda Merrill of Linda Merrill Decorative Surroundings on a design and merchandising plan for Yarn’s End, a retail yarn shop located South of Boston. Many decorators might only be focused on the visual end-product, but Linda drew from her business background and keen understanding of the crafters’ needs, then applied those skills to the project. In addition to working within the Company’s brand attributes, Linda also took our budget (lean), retail traffic patterns, and store merchandising into her recommendations for the project. Our space is just 650 square feet, yet Linda utilized the space in such a way that it appears open, warm, and inviting to our guests.

> I hired Linda after I moved into a new apartment with an open floor plan and could not figure out how to make it into a comfortable living space. She was able to see the potential of the space while I just saw a giant room and a bunch of furniture but to real flow or Linda worked with me to figure out how to use what I had and made recommendations for what new items would work well in the space. She was very easy to work with and I was really pleased with the results.

> Linda brought such inspiration and creativity to the design process. She learned my style preferences and created a fully integrated plan reflecting a minimalist approach using clean sharp lines and earth tones. I am very particular about fit and finish and was very impressed with Linda's attention to detail. She created an environment that I proudly call home

## Community Q&A

**Q: Do you happen to know the dimensions of the room? Thanks!!** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Hi - I don't specifically recall, but this part of the room was probably about 12-14 feet wide (fireplace wall) by 14-16 ft window wall.

**Q: Where to buy rug?** *(in Photo Questions)*

We were wondering where the rug is from? We are looking for a dining room rug.

A: Hi Stephanie - The rug was purchased at Landry & Arcari in Boston.

**Q: Dining Room Layout** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Just moved to a new house and having trouble with a layout. In need of additional storage and a functional piece to be used as a server. Our table is 84" with 2 leaves, one that we use often. We have two inlaid radiators below the Windows. Obvious place for a sideboard/buffet is wall opposite the China cabinets, but not enough room to walk by or for head chairs. Room doesn't feel symmetrical and I am having a hard time with it. Where should the sideboard/buffet go? Should I relocate the corner cabinets (not super functional bc of corner dimensions)? Want to start designing as soon as I figure a layout. Thanks everyone!

A: I think the obvious place for the server is on the wall under the clock. It's hard to tell in your photos, but it looks like it could tuck right in there, just so long as it's no deeper than the wall by the kitchen door. If the corner cabinets aren't functional, get rid of them.

**Q: Need help vaulted ceiling** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I have recently had huge rock torn off the fireplace and replaced with a clean, updated tile. Shiplap has been installed (not painted yet) but I cannot figure out how to trim it out because of the horrible vaulted ceiling. Please need advise ASAP

A: Sorry, but that shiplap piece looks terrible. I'd make the contractor do it over. It's entirely the wrong style for the fireplace surround. I would do something like this, but angled at the ceiling. Something as subtle as possible since what you have now makes your fireplace looks very short and squat.

**Q: White tile backsplash with beige cabinets?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I love this tile but can't commit to the white. My aunts with good design taste say the white looks great but is it too stark? The other option is an ivory tile the same shape but it's a dark ivory and looks very much like the cabinets. Thoughts? The first picture shows the white. The other pictures show the ivory. I also included a picture of the granite countertops.

A: I think the white is too stark. Even if your walls are white, why match the walls?

**Q: need fireplace design help** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Building a new home. We only have room for a 6 foot in length fireplace. Builder is recommending a 36" hearth opening. Is that too large? Is there a design formula for length vs opening?

A: It's definitely not too large and you probably wouldn't want a fire box any smaller. It leaves you 18" on either side which is nice and balanced. However, you could do larger possibly. As SH Interiors said above, pull some pics of what you like and go from there.
