## Community Q&A

**Q: Need help with Decor** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I have spent yrs trying to turn my house into a home. it has been the toughest thing yet. any ideals on color scheme and placement decor, rungs, furniture would help. pls...

A: As it seems its a living room with high ceiling, you can make it look stunning. Some ideas as this inspiring pics here:

**Q: Bathroom Decor** *(in Design Dilemma)*

My bathroom has boring white subway tiles and standard neutral floors. I just got this brown weave laundry basket but just realized I wanted to add color accessories like teal blue towels and maybe teal blue accessories. Shouldn't I return the Brown laundry basket and get a real one as well or leave it? Or pick a different accessory color that will go with brown? Eventually I'm going to paint these white walls a light grey so maybe real is too bold? Thoughts?

A: This bathroom would great w/out the dark brown basket. You can always remove that towel hanger and place shelves piece like picture where you can use it for more storage and decors/colors. You can also add to the space, some decors, vases, towels, candles etc.

**Q: Kitchen table** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Can someone suggest a table color to get for my new kitchen? Right mow I have my white table that I feel doesn't go with the room anymore. Not sure what to do. Match the cabinets, get glass, material seats? My cabinets are a brown cherry shade, not the red cherry. My floors are cream. I don't really want a dark tabletop because I tried so hard to lighten my kitchen I'd hate to add dark items.

A: I would suggest paint the wall cold white and use rustic dining table that is more bright, white/beige chairs. You have a nice modern ceiling lighting that goes with it.

**Q: What color for this ugly bulkhead? (And fireplace tile)** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi! You've all been so helpful with this family room....we are painting and stuck on ceiling/bulkhead color. I thought we would possibly do the whole ceiling and bulkhead the light green that is on the walls, but I tried it in a section, and it's just way too dark. So....we already have a white-ish green that is basically the same tones as the rest, just almost white. Thinking that it would white be better? And the bulkhead sides..same as wall or same as ceiling? I want it to disappear as much as possible with the magic of paint

Finally...the fireplace tile...I want to paint it...would a steely/pewter grey look good? Or what other color? The flowered in the corners need to go, and the oatmeal isn't really doing it for me.

Thanks so much!!!

A: It looks the area here has no much light. so it would be better to keep the walls bright white, as the fireplace also.

**Q: Desperately seeking decorating/design for my kitchen** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi!! I am in desperate need of some help unifying my kitchen through suggestions for a change in cabinetry and overall appearance. In 2011 we remodeled our kitchen after our home flooded. I only wish I wasn't in such a rush when picking out the cabinets, granites, backsplash ect. but I was rushed and anxious to get back home.I no longer really care for the selections I made and it is not in my budget to buy all new.I want to paint or stain the cabinets- either white or a deeper brown.I added Wainscoating recently to the wall behind the dining table- so white cabinets would tie in nicely here, but not sure if it works w/the backsplash and granite (included pics below)I like how the darker cabinets look w/granite but that are of the kitchen is small and low light- afraid it will look too dark and small??I was thinking of staining or painting cabinets- any suggestions?I recently painted the kitchen- functional grey (SW)- which I like but trying to unify this color with the cabinets/backsplash- not sure how- would like to incorporate a accent color- not sure what would work?Need to hang something above the Waincot- found a nice mirror (will post pic)- afraid it might be too large for the space??Any suggestions for area rug and window treatments? Have sliding g glass doors that overlook our patio and yard..I like the woven bamboo Roman shades with curtains/ curtains might close off the space too much???please help I'm so overwhelmed and at a complete standstill

A: A bright white color for walls would be my suggestion and also to add some yellow color or other bold color you love in the living room. some pics here:

**Q: Need help find color for area rug.** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I'm looking for an area rug that would match my burgundy and cream sofa. The picture with the burgundy sofa is the most updated photo of the living room. The other is just to show layout of the room. I want the color to pop but not make the room dark. I'm so stuck :)

A: Denise, can you send another picture with the area? my suggestion is to you use a plain color for your rug as your sofa is busy.
