## Community Q&A

**Q: stone** *(in Photo Questions)*

I absolutely love this!! what kind of stone did you use for the base?

A: Hi Sharon. FYI, the questions about this project are also directed to me. I get an email asking me the same question. Did not want you to think I was stalking your Houzz inquiries.

**Q: can you tell me what brand and style the garage doors are?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: The garage doors were the only element of the exterior we did not change. I can contact the homeowner to see if he has record of the installation.

**Q: uggh what to do w/ "fake" stone fireplace......** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I want to lower mantle and place tv over stove but had a contractor come out to bid and they said it wasn't real stone? So should I tear it all down and put a whitewashed faux brick in it's place or try to work with it?

A: Be careful to check minimum clearances to combustables above the stove. Moving a wood mantle down could be problamatic. If it is "fake" stone, removing it and starting over is a bit easier than working with a traditionally set rock. The fake stone is just a veneer. With the wood stove as the center piece you will want to stay with warm and textured surfaces to replace the existing. Consider recessing an articulating TV mount to clean up the A/V installation.
