Then yesterday on the upper patio more spots started to appear. Does anyone know what could be causing this? We spent a pretty penny on this patio and I am very concerned. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. A: @laurenm0423 What was the solution or the cause? **Q: Toto Drake or Carlyle II - the Map rating site, still need input** *(in Plumbing)* We've been trying to choose between the Toto Carlyle Ii and the Drake. We looked at the Map toilet testing site at http://www.map-testing.com and it appears that the Drake gets better performance ratngs than the Carlyle II. As far as features go, we need a model which meets ADA standards for height. We don't need a washlet or other extras.. The Drake is far less expensive than the Carlyle II, at least in my area. I'd greatly appreciate input about whether it's worth the extra expense to get the Carlyle or even if it's better than a Drake. The walls are Sherwin-Williams Alabaster. I can't get a photo of the bathroom to load but it is basically neutrals in the beige and grey family but with vanity lights which have white shades and bulbs. The Drake is far less expensive than the Carlyle II, at least in my area. I'd greatly appreciate input about whether it's worth the extra expense to get the Carlyle or even if it's better than a Drake. A: Which Drake is everyone referring to? The standard Drake using 1.6 gallons that is \#1 selling toilet on Amazon Toto CST744SL \#01 or the Drake II which is rimless and has the double cyclone technology, making it a closer match to the Carlyle II which has the Tornado technology and is rimless (and skirted). There is also a Eco Drake that is similar to the standard Drake but uses 1.28 gallons. We are considering the standard 1.6 gallon Drake for our secondary bathrooms because of its low price and yet excellent flushing. Saving water is not a priority for those bathrooms that don't get used a lot anyways. We are considering the Toto Ultramax II 1.28 - which is the same as the Carlyle II 1.28 but without the skirt. I like the idea of the skirt but it didn't appear that the Carlyle's skirt was as simple as needed to be easy to clean and thus not worth the extra $185. Also, as far as Toto colors, the cotton white is the bright white and Colonial white is the antique white. **Q: Do not buy electrolux products** *(in Laundry Room)* We bought this Electrolux front loading washer 2 years ago because of its high ratings. It has turned out to be a full blown disaster. There are only two of us, so it is used very little. It has been down three times in two years. This last time, it was under the extended warranty, which we took out because of the repair issues. It has been over two weeks and the dryer is still not repaired. The Electrolux contractor is too busy to pick up the part and fix it. I have been on the phone endlessly with both electrolux and the contractor. They tell me they will call me back when it is resolved. I have never gotten a call or had a visit scheduled to fix it. DO NOT BUY ELECTROLUX products. A: I cannot imagine worse service than LG. On July 1st we had an LG front loading washer and dryer installed by Sears. The washer leaks intermittently. Sears sent repair men out 5 times. They replaced the washer. Still leaks. They verified that it was not a problem with the installation and since it was then outside Sears' warranty, they said to contact LG. Talking with the overseas LG customer service is challenging because of the language barrier and their policies. I even tried working with the US location in Alabama and got nowhere with their customer service professionals. An outstanding LG technician came out multiple times and replaced several parts. He was unable to duplicate the leaking. Water doesn't reach the front right underneath except on my laundry day when I wash 4-8 loads. He thinks it's because the washer has design flaws that cause it to leak when I use the normal amount of HE detergent and when parts get clogged from pet hair, residue, etc. He said that these units are extremely particular and require a lot of extra maintenance. I cannot fill the detergent to the "normal" line, I need to wipe down the entire interior and gasket after use, regularly clean out the drain pipe, and run the machine clean cycle using only a standard machine clean powder (but only a fraction of the recommended amount). One of the customer service calls took an hour because they talked me through all the things that could go wrong and they reiterated the requirement to wipe down the inside and gasket and to use less than the recommended amounts of detergent. They said I might have damaged the unit because I used bleach for the machine clean cycle. When I told them I followed the manual directions that said "bleach or machine cleaner", she told me the manual is wrong and needs updating. Because the unit is so finicky, I don't dare have my teen son or husband do laundry. Fortunately it's only leaked once in the past month since I've been following all their instructions. I will never buy LG again, especially since the local repair guy told me the inside scoop on LG designs/engineering being a bad fit for the US consumer. He said he has been with them for just a few months. Before he was with Sears and fixed a variety of appliance brands. He thinks LG is the worst because of how easy it is for things to go wrong with them. He said that LG will not admit to a design flaw and will just keep replacing parts to honor their warranty. I had zero problems with our former Whirlpool Duet that we had for 10 years until it sold with the house. I did not do any maintenance and had four teenagers doing their own laundry. I didn't see the amount of pet hair on the gasket either that I do with the LG. The only thing I did with the Duet is leave the door ajar after I did laundry so it would fully dry. Since we didn't need any repairs, I have no experience with Whirlpool's customer service. **Q: Washer Advice Needed: LG vs. Electrolux** *(in Laundry Room)* Dear Houzzers, I have read numerous posts here re:Electrolux's 2nd floor guarantee and that had convinced me to make Electrolux our new washer.... then I come to find out that this guarantee is no longer offered (since 12/31/16?)? Now I am choosing between the following 2 washers: Electrolux LuxCare EFLS617SIW and LG TurboWash Series WM5000HWA I am particularly concerned with vibration as this is going into a cabinet. Our current LG washer (circa 2008) walks and vibrates terribly since we got it with our home in 2013 (don't know about its behavior pre '13). We've done all the obvious re-balancing, etc, to no effect and have given up putting it in the cabinet as we're afraid it will damage the walls. So: which of the above would you recommend given in-cabinet placement (plenty of room behind the unit, only about 1/2" on either side). Thank you for any advice! A: I bought the LG WM5000HVA in July and absolutely HATE it. It leaks intermittently and has already been replaced once. Sears and LG repair people have tried replacing various parts and nothing works so the final verdict is operator error. As in I use too much detergent. I use Persil HE detergent and fill it no more than to the normal line. LG rep on the phone said that was too much. Dog hair seems to clog up things. I have to water down the softener four:one and alternate using vinegar. The cycle lengths are horribly long, but when I've tried the turbo (speed) cycle, that's when it usually leaks. You have to wipe our the gasket after last load and leave the door ajar. That is all too much maintenance. I've had front loading Whirlpool Duet's in three homes since 2002 and never had an issue or needed to do any maintenance except leave the door ajar. But my trusted sales person is steering me towards an Electrolux ELS617STT over the Whirlpool Duet again. I do not notice vibrations, but ours is mounted on the LG sidekick washer. Which I also don't like because there is no way to dry it out and I can see mold building up over time. I did use it for my son's soccer uniform that had to be washed several times a week, but it's really just a nice thing to have and I don't see the need for it. **Q: Need help finding a reliable frontloading washer gas dryer...** *(in Laundry Room)* Frustrated trying to replace my washer and dryer. I went on C-net, Consumer Reports, Top Ten Reviews, and some appliance store blogs trying to find a washer and dryer that is highly rated for performance and reliability. Review sites rate certain brands and models high and then reviews from people who actually own the appliances have nothing but bad things to say about them! I might as well just pick a brand by throwing a dart at a dartboard! Consumer Reports likes Kenmore Elite but people complain about them and the lack of service on the warranties. C-Net likes the Korean brands LG and Samsung, and Yale Appliance in Boston says that their service department records show that Maytag Appliances (the higher end of Whirlpool) need less repairs than other brands, have better customer service and a shorter turn around time for parts because everything is made in the U.S. rather than Korea. However, people who own Maytag and Whirlpool washers complain about mold build-up in their front-loading washers and and people who own their dryers complain about rust in the drum from poor welds that mark up your clothes! These are the reasons that I need to replace my Whirlpool washer and dryer. Even though I religiously follow the manufacturer's instructions to wipe out the door gasket and run their special maintenance cycle with bleach each month, I still get mold build-up in the soap dispenser area of the machine and my dryer has left rust streaks on our clothes! Thus, I am not inclined to purchase machines from Maytag or Whirlpool again. Anyone out there have any advice to point me in the right direction? A: I'm looking for recommendations for new front loading washer/dryer from someone who likes theirs and also has done the research on their reliability. We bought a Whirlpool Duet front loading set in 2006 and sold them with the house this summer. Never had a single problem. Loved them. I did leave the washer door open to dry, and we had the lint cleaned once in the dryer vent, but otherwise didn't do any maintenance and never needed a repair. My kids ran them with too much detergent or softener without an issue. When we moved into a rental, we bought new LG front loading set this summer from Sears online and the washer leaked from the start. Sears and LG have horrific customer support. Finally after the Sears warranty ran out (yet still leaking), LG sent in their trained repair technician who tried multiple fixes too. The latest "fix" was to counsel me to use half the recommended amount of detergent. That does seem to have solved the problem as we no longer have a floor covered in water after running 5 loads. But he said the LG products are extremely finicky and require that you do weekly and monthly maintenance. I couldn't believe the lengthy list of things that the LG service person on the phone said I had to do to keep it from leaking, including wiping the interior gasket down after every load. I had hoped to have my son do his own laundry, as did my older children when we had the Duets but the LG is too particular for anyone but me to use. So, when we move out of our rental next summer and into our next home, I'm thinking about selling them, cutting my losses, and buying something new. Our appliance sales person for our kitchen appliances is recommending Electrolux. I was thinking of going back to the Whirlpool Duet, but I've also learned that just because a brand was good 10 years ago, doesn't mean it's the same now. I told him how we loved our Bosch dishwashers over the past 20 years, and he said he no longer sells them as they aren't what they used to be. We had a Consumer Reports membership for years but I found that it wasn't very useful as it was testing things that didn't matter to me and it was weighing stuff in its reviews in a different way than I would. **Q: Paint on walls** *(in Photo Questions)* What color is on the walls?
