**★★★ — Richard McPherson, Dec. 2018**

> Our kitchen project was completed in time for the Thanksgiving Holiday which was our main goal. The project began in June when we first picked out the materials and cabinets for a total rework. We did have some difficulty in having the cabinets inspected by our local project manager and some of the cabinets proved to be defective. This created a three week delay but the problem was with the quality control of the cabinet vendor which caused the original installation crew to be booked elsewhere and the second installation crew was slow in scheduling time to work on our kitchen. The cabinet installer was able to make adjustments to the cabinets to make them work but once done it was a beautiful job. The three week wait for the counter top jeopardized the install due date because of the type of counter top we chose but we weren't made aware of the manufacture time when we first picked out the material. The plumbing and electrical portion went well with few hitches. I guess our overall expectation of time for completion was too fast for the number of contractors that were involved in the installation of our kitchen. More than once the contractor had to return to Lowe's to pick up additional materials that were not originally ordered to complete their portion of the install.
> Communication between Lowe's and their contractors needs to be improved, maybe the customer should be given a single project contact person instead of dealing with several different contractor contacts, we had as many as seven different people to deal with to call and expect call backs from them. This caused confusion with both the customer and vendors. Thank You for a beautiful kitchen but the process could have been much easier.

**Comment from Project Specialist Lowe's of Harriman, TN:**

> It was a pleasure to work with you both, and we are all very pleased that we were able to meet your deadline for completion. Thank You for Reviewing our services and giving us an honest evaluation of what we did Great and what we need to improve on for future customers.
>
> The process for a kitchen remodel is in my opinion the most stressful remodel that you can do to your home, mix in a couple of delays and a pending family function... I can only imagine the additional stress that was felt by both of you.
>
> We strive to make sure that every customer knows what to expect before the project begins, but I'm not sure that there is any way to truly convey the scope of the project until you have come through the process. A typical kitchen project will usually take between 10 to 12 weeks from the time you order until completion, including a 5 to 6 week lead time on semi-custom cabinetry, a 3 week lead time on custom fit counter-tops, and several weeks of labor. Also any damaged cabinets will take an additional 2 to 3 weeks to replace. Looking back your project was completed in 18 weeks from purchase to final walk-thru. The hold ups and concerns you mentioned are valid and are something that Lowe's Corporate will be sharing with the cabinet manufacturer in the hopes of decreasing the delays felt by our customers.
>
> We whole hardily agree that there should be one person that you call for updates on your project. This is why we provide a detailed book for every customer with the all the pertinent phone numbers for the General Contractor, the Project Coordinator, My Assistant and My own number. Our feeling is that while you should only have to contact the Project Coordinator or at worst the GC, we want you to have the control to contact any of the people involved with your project at any time. We understand the frustration of not being able to get hold of someone when you need them and want to make sure that when an issue or question arises you have the numbers available to reach out to one or more of us to help alleviate the issue or question as quickly as possible.
>
> Thank you again for allowing us to build this wonderful kitchen for you, We look forward to helping you with additional projects in the future, and our very excited to welcome you to Harriman.

> Brian Williams, Daphne Brice and Ed were a pleasure to work with. I feel they went beyond of what was required of the to give me a kitchen that was beyond my expectations. They went out of their way to make sure that I was 100% satisfied with everything. I can't praise them enough.

**Comment from Project Specialist Lowe's of Harriman, TN:**

> Thank You so much for giving us the opportunity to work in your home. I think the entire project worked out beautifully, from the new Kraftmaid Cabinets to the New Porcelain Tile Floors. I absolutely loved your choice of backsplash. I look forward to working with you in the future on any of your home improvement needs.

**★★★★★ — Vera Scarbrough, Nov. 2016**

> My husband is in a wheelchair and we wanted an accessible area that would serve dual roles: a place for his computer/desk and a place for him to have meals, especially with the grandchildren when they visited and wanted to be in commune with "Pop." The result was a floating island top well supported with end cabinets, each fully accommodating his wheel chair. Above-added cabinets as well as those on the sides give extra storage. We knew what we wanted but without the expert design and input from the creative and knowledgeable Lowe's designers, this project would not have been possible, especially because we had to add on to a free standing wall. Brian and his team spent an afternoon at our home working on different designs. The one we chose is one we both love. It is highly functional, strikingly beautiful and goes so well with our present kitchen cabinets and counter tops Lowe's did in 2010. Having professionals who are knowledgeable, kind, timely in meeting deadlines, working within our given budget and assuring EVERY detail will be made right- speaks volumes for a company. We consider this design team like family members now!! We highly recommend Lowe's cabinet specialists to anyone wanting to remodel or install.

**Comment from Project Specialist Lowe's of Harriman, TN:**

> Mrs. Scarbrough it was truly a pleasure working with you and your husband to develop the design. Daphne worked so hard to get the design just right for your family and is overjoyed that it came out so well. We all enjoyed the afternoon we spent at your home getting to know you and your husband and working on the design. We love to hear that our designs truly enrich our customers lives. There is no better feeling than to know that you made your customers lives better with the work you do. I know that everyone at the store hopes that you and your family enjoy many years of eating together with your husband at the new table/desk.

> I can"t say enough good about the service we have received from Lowe's and the Project Specialist group. They kept in contact with me all the way. It made it much easier to go in and pick what we wanted and they did all the rest. I love my cabinets and my new kitchen. The cabinets was even installed the week before they thought they would even be able to begin which may it so nice since we was on a time table ourselves and our move.
> Thank you Lowe's Specialist group and all the contracted people from there we had the best.

## Community Q&A

**Q: lowes kitchen design** *(in Design Dilemma)*

What Lowe’s in NJ would be my best bet for experienced Kitchen Design? Looking at Kraftmaid Cabinets and live in central NJ, but willing to travel for someone with good design skills.

A: I would recommend asking questions of any designer you are talking too about past projects and their experiences. I have learned over the year that you have to judge the person you are working with not the package that they came in. You can find Great Designers at Lowe's and Great Designers at many other retailers both large and small. However every designer started somewhere and is only as good as his/her training and the experiences they have learned from. I would also take your time on the design with whoever you choose and think each small decision out, a good designer can help with this but the ultimate decision is yours. Each of those small choices you make can change the look, feel and overall price of the final design. Lastly go into the project asking for everything you want regardless of price then once the price has been given take things out to get the budget you want. Unfortunately I can not tell you whom you should go to in New Jersey, but I do hope that my comments are helpful. Good Luck on your coming remodel.

**Q: Master bath/bed help needed** *(in Bathrooms)*

Bath seems too big and really disliking the three doors on one wall and separate closets. Wanted a 4 x 5 shower. The 3 x 6 window has to stay. The 4 x 4 can go away or be smaller.
Master no smaller than 13' and be able to put queen bed in two spots.
Even thought about switching the rooms. Putting master in front using back room for bath/closets....
House will be on 3. Lots of trees. Front can face southwest, south or south east. So having master in back will get lots of morning light.

A: Here is a quick idea, I guessed on the measurements based on the info you had. This will at the least give you another option to look at. You could also split the closet and have a walk through into the bath. If you wanted the Tub you can rearrange the bathroom layout and/or shrink the closet area. I also added the angled wall at the front of the home you can easily leave that as a rectangular room depending on how you want to lay it out. You have lots of options so just play around with them.

**Q: Kitchen Range hood Size vs. Oven** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi! My oven is 30" wide (picture is just a sample image). Should my range hood (the hood i've purchased looks just like in the picture) be a little bit wider than my oven at 36" total? Or Should i stick with a 30" range hood to match the size of the oven? I've been told that a little bit wider of a range hood will capture smoke/smell better. Thoughts/Advice?

A: Most kitchens have the same size hood over the range. The fans and filters typically do the work of pulling the heat, moisture and odors out of the room. Unless there is a particular look you are going for by oversizing the hood I would go with the standard 30" size. I would pay more attention to how loud the unit is and how many CFM's it is rated for. Hope that helps answer your question.

**Q: Our new bathroom with before and after photos** *(in Before & After)*

Demolition started March 28th and the final step was completed today (glass shower door and mirror above vanity). I love how it turned out and couldn't be happier with my choices.

A: Wonderful Job, The Vanity Top is beautiful!

**Q: Where can I find this backsplash tile? Can you suggest an alternate?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

This is NOT my house but I love this backsplash. I'm looking for a backsplash that is light and airy, and interesting. Even though I'm looking for something modern/contemporary, this still appeals to me. Most people seem to recommend glass mosaic, but I've had it in my last home and although I liked it at the time, everyone I know seems to have it and I could use some change. Are there other options? Stone? Maybe an interesting way to lay out tile but combine with glass? Here's my kitchen (pardon all the clutter).
I have dark reddish brown cabinets and quartz reflections counter tops along the perimeter. The island has black drawers and Alaska Denali granite.
Would a traditional looking mosaic like the one above look too odd? I think a light colored backsplash would work better, but how would a dark one look?

A: There is a similar Tile from American Olean Costa Rei Collection CR80, CR81, CR82, and CR83, you can check local distributors or your local Lowe's for pricing. I found this product in the American Olean 2013 Catalog. Good Luck!
