Give SGD a call you will not be disappointed. We were lucky enough to find Sarah and her team via a recommendation but seeing her team in the paper winning an award solidified our decision. This was the best decision we made as their team stepped up in so many ways throughout the two- and half-year process. After meeting Sarah and her team, it was apparent they had a process and steps that would take us through the entire project. With every build and design, you have different challenges and for us it was using the entire building footprint and fitting all our needs in was their biggest challenge. Angela Neyman was my Interior Design Manager and was a joy to work with. Not only did she capture my vision for the layouts and design of each room almost bang on from the start, she also did everything long distance for me - picking out everything from paint colour, hardware, fixtures, wallpaper, fabrics to furnishing the house from top to bottom. Her drawings and specifications including mill working, electrical and lighting were meticulous. The entire house from top to bottom was communicated from two hemispheres by emails, photos, phone and zoom calls. I had to rely on Angela 100% for texture, feel, colour and comfort and she did it all with expertise and ease. In short, we would not have the beautiful home we have today if it was not for Angela and the incredible team of Sarah, Rob and Roz working together to make our dream a reality. Amber was our main contact, and extremely knowledgeable in her own right, but she also checked regularly with Sarah on any issues that would benefit from a second opinion, and Sarah oversaw the project. Paid $4000 to have drawings of the house and rooms labeled theatre room that was a storage room, the kitchen space moved around to make the spaces impractical and the master bedroom added a walk in closet. Allot of money with little time or effort put in. Going to move spaces around myself now as I think I can do a much better job and save $$$$. It is unfortunate as I wanted to hire an expert who was qualified and could come up with much better ideas than me which has not been the case in this situation. Will not pursue using Gallop with colours or fixtures as I think the same situation would happen and don't want to throw money in the air. I met with them personally and walked through the entire home asking questions about what they were trying to accomplish, who was going to be living in the home, how they lived, what they liked etc. I explained the process to them in detail. I then prepared a Design Budget outlining the associated costs for design. They approved the costs, and then signed a Design Agreement authorizing us to start work on the project. > > I then had 2 senior members of our design team measure and photograph the entire house, including flying drone footage of the large property. My senior architectural designer then drew up the as-built drawings and I personally did the space planning options for them based on my extensive notes from my meeting with them. I did 2 different options for the layouts/plans. Both involved significant changes to the floor plans, including reconfiguring the majority of the main floor, about 40% of the upper floor, and about 25% of the lower floor (plus repurposing other rooms where the spaces already existed) It also included items such as repositioning the kitchen which was discussed in the original consultation and the clients were very responsive to. > > I booked a time to personally meet with the clients, Lucas (husband/review writer) confirmed the meeting time. I drove an hour to get to their house, when I arrived I was met by a landscaper who said he would get the client who was in the back – Lucas’s wife came out front and was surprised to see me and said she didn’t know I was coming. She then phoned her husband who was not around, and when she reached him he was not able to talk/even be part of the meeting via phone. > > I asked if they would like to reschedule. She told me that no, it was probably better this way anyway as her husband would not be a big part of the layout/design decisions and the interior was up to her. We spent 1.5 hours reviewing/discussing the options to the plans, and walking thru the spaces to see how the new layout worked. I explained the rationale on how I had laid things out and how this related to how they indicated they wanted to use the spaces. She was very receptive to the plans and seemed quite excited about the project in general. She indicated a possible change she was thinking about to the mud room that included adding additional sqft to the house. At the end of the meeting she said she would show her husband the plans and they would provide feedback to me to make any changes they decided on. > > 3 weeks later I received an email from Lucas stating that he and his wife were ‘disappointed in what we came up with as far as the space planning. It seems spaces were planned with no real thought behind it and could have been thought of by anyone’. I replied to him asking if he would like to discuss the plans, and any specific areas he wanted to see changes made to. I told him that it was unfortunate that he was not at the meeting to review the plans as he would have had been part of the conversation and perhaps understood where the ideas had come from. > > It was a month before I received a reply, at that time he again stated that there was no creativity put into the plans and that perhaps one of our office staff had done the plans. I replied and assured him that I had personally done this work, and certainly did put a lot of thought and effort into creating these spaces for him based on the needs of his family.
