It’s a beautiful structure. And very functional. But the quality of the product has not been good and the company has not been responsive. The initial contractor that they had did terrible work so they brought someone else to fix it. Just a year later there are quite a number of fabrication issues which caused water to get in and damage the interior. The company does not respond. I will have to have all of this addressed with my own person, which is unfortunate given how new the product is. The cost to install through Studio Shed was about 50% of the cost of the entire project so I expected a really good quality install. Our installer did not stay on schedule and actually left half way through the install (which was only supposed to be a few days) and came back 3-4 days later. The sheetrock was done hastily and looks awful as it was not properly sanded. The trim around the windows is a mess. One of the main windows was not sealed properly so became cloudy right away. A few thoughts to others that might be along the same path. We ordered a 10x12 Portland Series in October of 21 to be a backyard office. > > 1\) The ordering process was quite easy overall. We spoke to Susan on the phone multiple times and she was able to answer all/most of our questions. There were a few non-responses when it came to email, but a phone call resolved our questions quickly and competently. > 2\) Our Portland Shed shipped very quickly in October of 2021 -- about 2 weeks from order to shipment. > 3\) It took our professional crew of 2 (which has installed over 500 studio sheds in the Bay Area) a little over a week (not including foundation work which was an additional week) to erect the shell. I was initially intrigued to build the exterior myself as I often design and build furniture as a hobby, but I'm happy that I didn't after watching them. > 4\) The contractor that Studio Shed referred me to has been great to work with and super responsive. > 5\) We opted out of the interior package as I wanted to do the interior myself. > 6\) The stud spacing is not 16 on center for a majority of the shed. This is a byproduct of the modular design. The biggest issue this might cause is when wall mounting objects that assume 16 on center spacing ( certain TV brackets, mini-split systems.) > 7\) When mounting drywall, you might need additional hangers in the corners as you'll lack something to screw off to in the corners. (again from the modular design) > 8\) An annoyance is that the two different doors on our shed came with two different sets of keys. Studio shed corrected this once they were notified of the issue. > 9). We were completely sold on the company after visiting their manufacturing site, which happened to be just a few miles from our home. We ended up with the Portland series in a 16' by 20' size. The part that took the longest was the issuance of the permit from the county (submitted just before the COVID shutdown), but once the permit was issued the fabrication and the installation took only several weeks. We were able to customize the "shed" to our tastes and to the county's stringent energy codes without any complications. Everyone at Studio Shed was a pleasure to work with, professional, competent and super easy to communicate with.
