Our Fall crops are now planted (cabbages, carrots, collards, and turnips). The Spinach seed will be planted later on in Nov for an early Spring harvest. The 7 late tomato plants are looking good and setting fruit now which should ripen up well before the first frost. Still picking that last of the watermelons and cantaloupes now as well as a few late tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants. Will be digging up some sweet potatoes in the coming days. On the fruit side, the Figs are still going strong and we started to pick the first pears. The pear trees are loaded down heavy but they held up ok during some recent high windy days as the TS passed us by to the south. The local temps are in the 70's for a few days but the upper 90's will return next week, glad the late tomato plants had a chance to set fruit this past week. Howes youse doing? A: Richard I let the asparagus turn brown before I cut down the ferns. Next year resist the urge to harvest any of those new spears. They should get quite a bit bigger and feed the roots again. **Q: Veggie Tales \>\>\> August 2023** *(in Vegetable Gardening)* Posted this is July before I realized that time was marching on Family is picking things out of the garden. mostly volunteers New Kennnbec potatoes, Fennel weed without seeds. Early Honey Crisp Apples! A: Is there a September page? **Q: Veggie Tales \>\>\> June 2023** *(in Vegetable Gardening)* Yep, it's June! Only 3 more weeks before the days grow shorter again, ugh, albeit slowly. Picked the first carrots and more beets today while we picked the last of the peas. My 2 cheat'in tomato plants may give us our super early Cherokee Purple in about 10-14 days. That should kick in with the cucumbers so combined with the still sweet lettuces it's almost homegrown salad time. The first zinnia bloomed today too.....How's Your Garden Grow? A: OKAY I'll stop, only 3 more😊 **Q: Veggie Tales April 2023** *(in Growing from Seed)* It's April and most of us have our veggies seedlings started and some spring crops sowed and even some starts in the ground. We're all looking forward to another great gardening season with dreams of luscious tomatoes of every variety. And huge crops of so many other great crops. We can dream together. A: Having a bit of challenge with my phone! So I'm itching to get things into the ground but it is still not warm enough for tomatoes or peppers. The Fava Beans I planted in October are finally blooming and will soon have pods. They took too long to get this far so will need to stall my dahlia planting for this row. Got some shallot seedlings into the ground yesterday. **Q: Veggie Tales March 2023** *(in Growing from Seed)* Figured it's March and there isn't a thread yet :) A little walk around the gardens this morning. Most of the alliums are popping up fine. Got beet greens, green sorrel, bucks horn, kale, and a couple of cresses growing up in the gardens. Mizuna, winter choi, brocolli greens, carrot greens, cress, and parsley are doing fine under the kitchen garden caps. Seven out of eight celery plants made it through under the garden cap, but the bulb fennel that was under there from last fall is toast. It's a fine and sunny day here in the gardens. Think we might take a walk out back this afternoon. Happy March! A: It was a beautiful day here yesterday and I finally got to spend some time in the garden ☺️ planted two trays of "green stuff" quite tight, mostly to harvest before tomatoes and beans go in the beds. The overwintered greens and spinach are walking up as well. In the greenhouse it looks like 6 out of 16 pepper plants are so alive after winter in the garage and the chitted potatoes are ready to plant. Suddenly it seems like spring!😊 **Q: Veggie Tales Feburary 2023** *(in Vegetable Gardening)* Feb Gardening, Say What? Happy Ground Hogs Day! The pic below was covered in snow an hour ago but it's all melted now. Just got a dawn dusting at 32F to look pretty, it's now close to 38F. Not a lot going on in the garden but here are the 3 rows of spinach that I planted last fall, each row was planted 2 weeks apart. Some are spotty thanks to some past slug damage and more recently my hen pecking at it, but mostly is intact and looking very good for an early March harvest. A temp dip down into the teens is expected over the weekend but it will not phase the spinach. I'll re-plant the gaps in the rows with more seed by the end of Feb. How does your garden grow? A: Today it is cold outside (again) and showering on and off (again) so staying indoors and potted up some tomato sprouts from the last batch of seeds.
