> It is unfortunate that we have to write a negative review for Jim.  He comes across as knowledgeable, thoughtful and visionary but did nothing more than draw the plans that we gave him, nothing more.  our completed work is almost like he wasn't involved, sad. He is challenging to deal with and does not live up to his word.  Once the plans are completed there is usually a need for revisions and that is how he gets you on price.  We had to hire a new architect and when we were interviewing others they said he made a simple project more complicated.  His work took way longer than he described and that is not due to us making changes, he just doesn't care.  He does not do hi own engineering which we found out adds to the time and cost of his work. This is not sour grapes in any way, this is an objective view based upon months of experience.  The builder, town and others who have interreacted with him found him to be arrogant and condescending.  He self proclaimed that he does not have the staff (quantity and quality) to keep up.

> We recommend wholeheartedly Jim and his architecture & interior design team. Since Jim had been a house framer himself before he became an architect, he is also great at orchestrating the process of interviewing and vetting of the homebuilders to use on your project. I found everyone on Jim's team to be well-educated and practiced in the art of building and the business of construction management. So looking back it was no surprise that Jim's firm managed the builder's work very well - in a way we could not do ourselves. Jim is easy to work with, honest, timely and creative. His ideas are original and beautiful. The plans for our home additions - and one new home - worked seamlessly. Every aspect of the interior and exterior designs were well-detailed and specified. Jim's firm is always available during construction. They professionally review the work in place, the invoices, and review, revise and approve the contractor's payment requisitions. Therefore we felt very comfortable funding our projects as the construction work was professionally vetted before the approved requisitions came to us in an orderly fashion for payment. We love the end results. We're so happy with our homes. And we can certainly highly recommend Jim O'Brien Architecture & Interiors for your next project. Oh, and Jim is a very talented architect and a really nice guy!
